Blanche L. Morgan Schrott 1910-2000
NEKOMA - Blanche L. Morgan Schrott, 90, died Nov. 21 in Nekoma. She was
born Jan. 26, 1910, in Nekoma, the daughter of Friend and Myrtle Stephens
Morgan. She married
Joseph Edward Schrott May 18, 1930, in La Crosse. A
lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a grocery store clerk.
Mrs. Schott was a member of Bazine Senior Center in Bazine.
Survivors include one son, Buddie Schrott of Rush Center; one daughter,
Joyce Wittman of Meade; one sister, Ethel Boese of La Crosse; eight
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one brother, Friend Morgan Jr.; three sisters, Verna Scheuerman, Aliyce
Quesenbury and Clara Grahm; and one grandson, Mark Schrott.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse
with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Burial will be at Nekoma Union
Township Cemtery in Nekoma. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday
and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. The family
will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials
are suggested to Walnut Valley Senior Center or Rush County Nursing Home,
in care of the funeral home.

Howard Ray Luft 1965-2000
STRASBURG, Colo. - Howard Ray Luft, 35, died Nov. 19 near Strasburg as a
result of a vehicle accident. He was born July 9, 1965, in Liberal, the son
of Jack W. and Ingrid D. Berg Luft. He was a graduate of Great Bend High
School, Barton County Community College, Goodland Vo-Tech School and the
University of Denver with degrees in engineering and fiber optics. A
resident of Strasburg and Evanston, Wy., formerly of Larned and Great Bend,
he was a staff engineer for QWest Communications in Denver, Colo.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jack and Wanda Luft of Great
Bend; his mother and stepfather, Rick and Ingrid Trinka of Great Bend;
stepbrother, Chris Hughes of Wichita; and stepsister, Wendy Litzenberger of
Derby.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel with the
Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. His ashes will be strewn over the mountain area
near his home in Wyoming. Memorials are suggested to the Blue Ribbon
Conservatory, in care of the funeral home.

Loren Dempsey 'Babe' Lane 1926-2000
LARNED - Loren Dempsey "Babe" Lane, 74, died Nov. 19, at Hutchinson
Hospital. He was born April 23, 1926, in Phillipsburg, the son of Glen
Alden and Lila A. Smith Lane. He married
Roberta Lee Gilliland Sept. 13,
1952, in Phillipsburg. A resident of Larned, coming from Phillipsburg, he
worked for Phillipsburg, Hays and Wichita Post Offices and was a
alcoholism counselor for Larned State Hospital, sunrise Inc. of Larned and
was a DUI evaluator for the 24th Judicial District.
Lane was a member of the United Methodist Church and church choir, both of
Larned and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phillipsburg. He was a veteran of
World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in both the U.S. Naval Reserve
and in the Kansas Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Dr. Charles Lane of
Medford, Ore., Loren Lane of Larned and Thomas Lane of Pratt; one daughter,
Susan Stokes of Mountain View, Calif.; one brother, Alden Lane of Hugo,
Colo.; two sisters, Gwen Funston of Detroit, Mich., and Dixie Abbott of
Claflin; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Irwin Lane.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Charles Grant
officiating. Graveside military honors will be at 4 p.m. at the Fairview
Cemetery in Phillipsburg. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday,
Saturday and Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are
suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Fred P. 'Fritz' Burgardt 1924-2000
HAYS - Fred P. "Fritz" Burgardt, 76, died Nov. 21, at his home in Hays. He
was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Hays, the son of George and Pauline Brungardt
Burgardt. He married
Rosaline Hoff Aug. 16, 1950, in Emmeram. A resident of
Hays, he was a construction worker with Klaus Construction.
Burgardt was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Alfred Burgardt of Hays
and Larry Burgardt, of Moore, Okla.; two daughters, Mary Leer and Brenda
Burgardt, both of Hays; four brothers, Marvin Burgardt, Wayne Burgardt,
Leon Burgardt and Victor Burgardt, all of Wichita; one sister, Annette Hepp
of La Crosse; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six
brothers, Elmer Burgardt, Andy Burgardt, Wayne Burgardt, Wilfred Burgardt,
Robert Burgardt and Eugene Burgardt; three sisters, Mary Steckline, Irene
Klaus and Janet Leiker.
Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral
Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Don
Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays.
Friends may call from 6-8 tonight and Thursday at the at the funeral
home. Memorials are suggested to be given for Masses, in care of the
funeral home.

Richard Herman Broils 1944-2000
LARNED - Richard Herman Broils, 56, died Nov. 21 at Central Kansas Medical
Center. St. Rose Campus, in Great Bend. He was born March 8, 1944, in Great
Bend, the son of John W. and Louise Franklin Broils. He married
Billie Jean
Shepherd May 29, 1971, in Larned. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was an
oil well tester for Phillips Petroleum and worked for USD 495.
Broils was a member of CME Church in Larned.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Elmore "Moe" Madden Jr. of
Larned; six daughters, Lois Cephus of Dodge City, Linda Upshaw of Spanaway,
Wash., Lisa Jean Black and Nichole Vontress, both of Dodge City, Sondra
Hopkins of Salina and Christine Broils of Larned; parents of Great Bend;
two brothers, Marion Broils of Kansas City, Mo., and Gene Broils of Topeka;
11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned with the Revs. William Harding and Johnny Augmon officiating. Burial
will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, both at the mortuary. Memorials are
suggested to the Victory in the Valley Inc., in care of the mortuary.

Alvin Henry Otte 1911-2000
Alvin Henry Otte, 89, died Nov. 20 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 17, 1911, in Great Bend, the
son of Henry J. and Zilphia Essmiller Otte. He was a 1936 graduate of
Kansas State University and played on the K-State football team. He married
Emma Louise Hommon May 16, 1937, in Smith Center. She died Feb. 11, 1998. A
lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a farmer.
Otte was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, Masonic
Lodge, Kansas Master Farmer Association and Kansas Bowling Hall of Fame.
Survivors include one son, Vern Otte of Leawood; four daughters, Arnita
Schultz of Trousdale, Alvina Mabry of Golden, Colo., Betty Robinson and
Myrna Holthaus, both of Great Bend; one sister, Lorena Calcara of Great
Bend; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Jana Baxter
officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from
11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to

Catherine Quint 1906-2000
HAYS - Catherine Quint, 94, died Nov. 17 in Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was born
March 31, 1906, in Catherine, the daughter of Fred and Margaret Dinkel
Schmidt. She married
Joseph Quint Nov. 15, 1926. He died in 1951. A
resident of Hays, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Quint was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg and
Eagles Auxiliary in Hays.
Survivors include one son, Ralph J. Quint of Leesburg, Ind.; two daughters,
Mary Ann Turner of Lawrenceburg and Silverine Phillips of Davis, Okla.; six
brothers, Joe F. Schmidt, Hilary Schmidt, Marcellus V. Schmidt and Leo C.
Schmidt, all of Hays, Fidelis Schmidt of Plainville and John P. Schmidt of
Great Bend; five sisters, Ann Schmidt of Plainville, Mary Pelzel and
Margaret Younger, both of Hays, Tina Tikiardopoulas of Wichita and Jane
Jacobs of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
Eagles Auxiliary service will be at 6 tonight at Brock's North Hill Chapel
in Hays. Parish vigil will be at 6:30 tonight at the funeral home. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in Hays with the Rev.
Mike Scully O.F.M. Cap officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery
in Hays. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight and from 8:30 until 9:45 a.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home.

August M. Boger 1915-2000
WICHITA - August M. Boger, 85, died Nov. 17. He was a retired Beech
Aircraft Company machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Boger of the home; three sons, Ronald
Boger of Beaverton, Ore., Arlen Boger of Wichita and Orville Boger of
Nevada City, Calif.; one daughter, Janice Kuehn of Baldwin, Mo.; one
brother, Reinhardt Boger of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Hilda Drehle of
Great Bend; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Wichita. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Arc of
