HOISINGTON - Herman Karst, 93, died Oct. 2 at Hoisington Rehabilitation
Center, Hoisington. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Cora Rose Strosnider 1922-2000
MANHATTAN - Cora Rose Strosnider, 78, died Oct. 2 at Mercy Health Center in
Manhattan after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 3, 1922, at Manhattan,
the daughter of Roscoe and Theresa Helget Aspley. She was a graduate of
Sacred Heart Academy and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Manhattan. She
married Glenn U. Strosnider Aug. 19, 1947, in Manhattan. A resident of
Manhattan, she was a registered nurse and nursing supervisor at St. Mary's
Hospital, Manhattan.
Mrs. Strosnider was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the Altar
Society and Postal Wives Auxiliary, all of Manhattan.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Michael Glenn
Strosnider and David Paul Strosnider, both of Asheville, N.C.; two
daughters, Rebecca Jo Blanton of Manhattan and Terry Sloan of Dodge City;
one brother, Roscoe Roland Aspley of Minnetonka, Minn.; two sisters,
Dorothy Lou Lukert of Topeka and Margie Lichtenhan of Dwight; 12
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one brother, George Aspley; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Michele
Collins.
Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home of Manhattan.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs.
Lawrence Grennan and Jerome Morgan officiating. Burial will be at St.
Patrick's Catholic cemetery in Elbow. Memorials are suggested to the
church, in care of the funeral home.

Joseph 'Joe' F. Vratil 1914-2000
LARNED - Joseph "Joe" F. Vratil, 86, died Oct. 1 at Larned Health Care and
Living Center in Larned. He was born April 20, 1914, the son of Charles A.
and Stephina Louise Svatos Vratil. He married
Willie Ann "Pearl" Garton
Dec. 5, 1935, at Larned. She died June 21, 1992. A lifetime resident of
Larned, he was an independent welder.
Vratil was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jo Gardner of Olathe and Sue Ellen
Sallee of Dodge City; one brother, Floyd Vratil of Pratt; three sisters,
Blanche Hagerman of Topeka, Esther Korf of Hanston and Ellen Raymer Lewis
of Modesta, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned
with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at the Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.
until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested
to the donor's choice, in care of the mortuary.

Hoisington.

David 'Buck' Griffin 1908-2000
LYONS - David "Buck" Griffin, 92, died Sept. 29 at Trego Lemke Memorial
Hospital in WaKeeney. He was born March 4, 1908, at Lyons, the son of Carey
and Myrtle Chewning Griffin. He attended Lyons High School. He married
Elsie E. Ford March 6, 1932, at Hutchinson. A resident of WaKeeney, coming
from rural Lyons, he was a farmer and stockman for 85 years.
Griffin was a member of First Christian Church of Lyons, Rice County Farm
Bureau and a former 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife of WaKeeney; one son, Wendell Griffin of Larned;
one daughter, Connie Griffith of WaKeeney; one brother, Allison Griffin of
Lyons; four sisters, Opal Evers and Bessie Dueser French, both of Great
Bend, Loleta Schill of Geneseo and Alline Casteel of Lancaster, Mo.; six
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joyce Arlene Griffin; one
brother, James W. "Bill" Griffin; and two sisters, Rena Amend and Pauline
Griffin.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Revs. Tom Eastman
and Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will be at Lyons City Cemetery. Friends
may call from 2-7 today at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney and from 10
a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church. Family will receive friends
from 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
church or Trego Lemke Hospital Long Term Care Unit in WaKeeney, both in
care of the funeral home.

Luciel Thelma Corlett 1918-2000
Luciel Thelma Corlett, 82, died Sept. 29 at Great Bend. She was born June
26, 1918, at Udall, the daughter of George Earl and Zoe Thelma True
Yarbrough. She was a graduate of Winfield High School. She married
John
Leonard Corlett in 1937 at Arkansas City. He preceded her in death. A
resident of Great Bend for 15 years, coming from Manvel, Texas, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Corlett attended the Presbyterian church. She was a licensed amateur
radio operator who patched many servicemen's calls to home from all over
the world.
Survivors include one son, John Corlett of Pearland, Texas; three brothers,
Jack Yarbrough of Whitewater, J.R. Yarbrough of Colorado Springs, Colo.,
and Bill Yarbrough of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Kay Busch of Wichita and
Ginger Dome of Topeka; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Fryberger Mortuary Chapel in Great Bend
with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to
service time Monday at the mortuary. Family will receive friends from 2
p.m. to service time Monday. Memorials are suggested to Veteran of Foreign
Wars Auxiliary, in care of the mortuary.

Diana K. 'Toni' Estes 1941-2000
RADIUM - Diana K. "Toni" Estes, 59, died Sept. 12 at Baptist Medical
Center, North Little Rock, Ark. She was born March 5, 1941, at Gothenburg,
Neb., the daughter of Floyd C. and Viola Evelyn Wallace Morris. She married
Glen Estes. A resident of Sherwood, Ark., formerly of Radium, she was a
homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Frank Kleckner of
Japan; one daughter, Laurie Devorak of Arlington, Texas; one stepson, Jeff
Estes of Omaha; one stepdaughter, Jody Jensen of Madrid, Iowa; one brother,
Lennie Morris of Wichita; three sisters, Marlene Lee and Mary Simmons, both
of Omaha, Neb., and Christy Koffman of Sherwood; and two grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one son, Steven Kleckner.
Graveside service was Sept. 15 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Omaha.
Roller-Owens Funeral Home of North Little Rock was in charge of
arrangements.

William D. 'Bill' Johnson 1921-2000
GARFIELD - William D. "Bill" Johnson, 79, died Sept. 28 at Hodgeman County
Health Center in Jetmore. He was born June 13, 1921, in Pawnee County, the
son of William D. and Leona Grizzell Johnson. A Garfield resident since
1992, coming from San Antonio, Texas, he was a truck driver and maintenance
worker.
Johnson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue Watts of Spearman, Texas, Rebecca
John and Sarah Johnson, both of San Antonio, Texas; his stepmother,
Marjorie Johnson of Larned; two sisters, Odessa Nelson of Garfield and Anna
Belle Kirklan of Washington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Larned cemetery with the
Rev. Rudy Cerullo officiating. Memorials are suggested to Pawnee County
Food Pantry, in care of Beckwith Mortuary in Larned.

Louise M. Hanna 1908-2000
MOUNT HOPE - Louise M. Hanna, 92, died Sept. 29 at her home in Mount Hope.
She was born May 2, 1908, in rural Maize, the daughter of C.J. and Bessie
Woodman Nicholson. She married
Bernard B. Hanna June 2, 1920, at Wichita.
He died Feb. 8, 1979. A longtime resident of Mount Hope, she was a
registered nurse and homemaker.
Mrs. Hanna was a member of Federated Church in Mount Hope.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Hanna of Burrton and Wayne E. Hanna
of Ellinwood; two sisters, Blanch Beal of Sedgwick and Mary Galyardt of
Wichita; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two brothers, Paul Nicholson and Lee Nicholson; and one
great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev.
Daniel Ensz officiating. Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. There
will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hospice of
Sedgwick County, in care of Van Campen Funeral Home in Haven.

Clarence Zelenka 1911-2000
ELLSWORTH - Clarence Zelenka, 88, died Sept. 28 at Salina Regional Health
Center, Santa Fe Campus. He was born Dec. 24, 1911, at Wilson, the son of
John Sr. and Ella Hospodka Zelenka. He married
Betty Hummel March 14, 1964.
A lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, he was a retired mechanic for
Shanelec Implement and Lloyd Implement.
Zelenka was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, American
Legion Post 174 of Ellsworth and life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars
Post 3111 of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one stepdaughter, Marjorie Jensen
of Marion; and three stepgranddaughters. He was preceded in death by one
brother, John Zelenka Jr.; one sister, Ruby; one stepson, Richard; and
step-granddaughter, Shaun Marie Jensen.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth with
the Rev. Mark Kayser officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to VFW Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research of Great Bend Post 3111,
in care of the funeral home.
