John W. Byrum 1926-2000
JETMORE - John W. Byrum, 74, died Oct. 5 at Good Samaritan Center in Dodge
City. He was born May 31, 1926, in Hodgeman County, the son of James and
Clara Dipman Byrum. He married
Evelyn Stephenson of Larned Jan. 9, 1949. A
lifetime resident of Hodgeman County, he was a farmer.
Byrum was a member of United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, RaDonna Fancher of
Cassville, Mo., Jeannette Loewen, Diane Ebeling and Norma Clark, all of
Dodge City; one brother, Bill Byrum of Pason, Ariz.; two sisters, Leona
Murphy of Larned and Mona Byrum of Amarillo, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George
Byrum and James Byrum; and two sisters, Ruth Byrum and Lelia Johnson.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church in Jetmore with the Rev.
Gary Winget officiating. Burial will be at Larned City Cemetery. Friends
may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Beckwith
Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Center,

Lela Oglesbee 1939-2000
ELLINWOOD - Lela Oglesbee, 61, died Oct. 5 in Ellinwood. She was born June
15, 1939, in Raymond, the daughter of Roy Emerson and Lottie Gable
Hendricks. She married
Bill Oglesbee Dec. 24, 1959, at Raymond. A resident
of Ellinwood since 1971, coming from Great Bend, she was a former legal
secrertary for Turner and Boisseau Chartered in Great Bend.
Mrs. Oglesbee was a member of First Baptist Church of Ellinwood and was
active in AWANA and Women's Ministry Fellowship. She was a long-time
supporter of Haiti Love and Faith Ministries.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son and daughter-in-law,
Gary and Stephanie Oglesbee of Ellinwood; one daughter and son-in-law,
Julie and Barry Parker of Ellinwood; three brothers, W.H. Hendricks of
Pawnee Rock, L.R. Hendricks of Raymond and Don Hendricks of Sterling; one
sister, Rita Blackburn of Raymond; two grandchildren, Ashley Oglesbee and
Kyle Oglesbee, both of Ellinwood; and two step-grandchildren, Carrie Parker
of Pratt and Dustin Parker of Coats. She was preceded in death by one
brother, Clarence Hendricks.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. David Wesner
officiating. Burial will be at Hilltop cemetery in Raymond. Friends may
call from 2 p.m. to service time today at the church. Memorials are

Allene M. Stewart 1922-2000
QUITMAN, Texas - Allene M. Perkins Stewart, 78, died Oct. 6 at the home of
her daughter after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in El
Dorado, the daughter of William J. and Ethel Acklin Eastham. She was a 1939
graduate of El Dorado High School. She married
Jesse V. Perkins Sept. 26,
1939. He died October 1966. A long-time resident of Quitman, she was a
retired chief clerk of the U.S. Government Office of Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Mrs. Stewart attended First Baptist Church of El Dorado before moving to
Texas. Active in American Business Women's Association, she was honored as
American Business Woman of the Year and given an award by the U.S.
government for high quality performance.
Survivors include two sons, Jesse M. Perkins of Arvada, Colo., and Thomas
O. Perkins of Grand Prairie, Texas; one daughter, Janeen Myers of
Osawatomie; one brother, William E. Eastham of Dallas, Texas; one sister,
Irene E. Ellis of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one
sister.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Osawatomie Assembly of God Church.
Graveside memorial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walnut Valley Memorial
Gardens cemetery in El Dorado. Memorials are suggested to Olathe Medical
Center Hospice, 20375 W. 151st St., Suite 405, Olathe, KS 66061. Cremation
Society of Kansas City is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Vera Bressler 1919-2000
CANON CITY, Colo. - Vera Bressler, 81, died Oct. 4 at Canon City. She was
born Sept. 24, 1919, in Hoisington, the daughter of Homer and Verna Ford
Lowry. She was a 1936 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended
Warnocks School of Cosmetology in Topeka. She married
Donald Bressler Nov.
28, 1940, in Great Bend. A resident of Canon City since 1984, coming from
Hoisington, she was a homemaker and owned and operated Vera's Beauty Shop
in Hoisington for many years.
Mrs. Bressler was a member of First Christian Church of Canon City, former
Boy and Girl Scout leader and was a sponsor of Methodist Youth Fellowship
in Hoisington for many years.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Troy Bressler of
Hoisington; two daughters, Loree Achenback of Bonner Springs and Ramona
Becker of Wichita; three brothers, Elmo Lowry of Great Bend, Ford Lowry of
Las Vegas, Nev., and Donald Lowry of Kansas City; 14 grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother,
Wendell Lowry; and one sister, Iva Bushnell.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9
a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are

John F. Keller 1928-2000
John F. Keller, 71, died Oct. 6 in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 10, 1928,
at Page City, the son of Oliver T. and Irene Waldmeier Keller. He was
married to the former Marilyn Zickefoose for 53 years. A resident of Great
Bend since 1952, coming from Lawrence, he was a teacher and coach for USD
428, Great Bend.
Keller was a member of First Congregational Church of Christ, church
moderator, Interfaith Volunteer Care Givers, Elks Lodge and Retired Senior
Volunteer Program, all of Great Bend. He was a member of the 1952 Kansas
University NCAA championship basketball team and a member of the 1952 U.S.
Olympic gold medal basketball team.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jon Randall Keller of
Topeka and Kurt Mitchell Keller of Marshall, Mo.; two daughters, Christine
Adele Keller of Tucson, Ariz., and Patricia Sue Atkinson of Great Bend;
four sisters, Letha Huntley of Clearview City, Sylvia Tate of Bonner
Springs, Maxine Berry of Winona and Freda Mason of Bailey, Colo.; and seven
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo Keller,
Clinton Keller and Walter Keller; and three sisters, Verna Wright, Eleanor
Keller and Goldie Keller.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Diana Coberly
officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great
Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church. Memorials

Zona P. Kroetsching 1905-2000
HOISINGTON - Zona P. Kroetsching, 95, died Oct. 5 at Hoisington
Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. She was born March 8, 1905, in
Kenesaw, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Sarah Maggard Ward. She married
Ed Watt in 1922. He died in 1955. She later married
Oscar C. Kroetsching.
He died in 1991. A resident of Hoisington since 1992, coming from Sharon
Springs, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Kroetsching was a member of First Christian Church in Sharon Springs.
Survivors include two daughters, Mable Wilton of Hoisington and Pearl
Lenhart of Petaluma, Calif.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Watt; three sisters and four
brothers.
A private family graveside service will be Saturday at the Hoisington
Cemetery with the Rev. Paula Bell officiating. Friends may sign the
register book from 6-9 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. The casket will not be opened. In lieu of flowers, memorials
are suggested to donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Robert LeRoy Hughes 1924-2000
LARNED - Robert LeRoy Hughes, 76, died Oct. 5 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born Jan. 10, 1924, at Sugar
Creek, Mo., the son of Charles U. and Mildred Becker Hughes. He married
Mildred Irene Clayworth Nov. 4, 1948, in Leavenworth. She died Jan. 18,
1977. He married
Alice E. Hoaelzel Aug. 18, 1978, in Kansas City, Mo. A
Larned resident since 1964, he was a retired plumber for M&F Plumbing in
Larned.
Hughes a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Larned. He was a U.S.
Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of the home; three sons, Robert E. Hughes
of Pratt, David R. Hughes of Larned and William Hughes of Mottoon, Ill.;
four daughters, Susan Hughes of Emporia, Theresa Bogart of Littleton,
Colo., Elizabeth Scott of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Patricia Plottner of
Great Bend; one brother, William Pulliam Hughes of Hutchinson; 20
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Charles Hughes; and two sisters, Florence and Edith.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned
with the Revs. Roy Savage and William Hughes officiating. Burial will be at
the Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 8
p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until service Monday at the
mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Hospice or the
American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Leslie W. Harms 1922-2000
STAFFORD - Leslie W. Harms, 78, died Oct. 4 at Stafford District Hospital
in St. John. He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Newton, the son of Walter and
Dora Harms. He married
Vivian Clothier Sept. 19, 1986, in Stafford. She
died Aug. 10, 1995. A longtime Stafford resident, he was a retired
machinist for Cessna Hydraulics.
He attended First Christian Church in Stafford and was a member and past
shop steward of the I.A.M.A.W. Lodge 1992, the Stafford American Legion and
the Stafford Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the board of
directors for Newell Housing in Stafford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre and Occupational Force of
Japan.
Survivors include five sons, Fernando J. Harms of Hutchinson, Ronald Harms
of McKinney, Texas, Roger Harms, Barry Harms and Scott Harms; three
daughters, Delena M. Harms and Desaree Recker, both of Hutchinson, and
Leslie Ann Pitts of Arkansas; one sister, Lois Bowser of Hutchinson; 12
grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with
the Rev. Jim Autrey officiating. Burial will be at Peace Creek cemetery in
Stafford with military honors. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the
chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association, in care
of the chapel.
