Anthony Ray Mong 1952-2000
ELLINWOOD - Anthony Ray Mong, 48, died Sept. 2 at University of Kansas
Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born March 23, 1952, at Wakeeney, the
son of Clayton Allen and Pauline Darline Pierce Mong. He married
Shirley
Ann Ruckman May 25, 1974, in Great Bend. A resident of Barton County since
1957, coming from Russell Springs, he was a machinist for Corrosion Proof
Fitting Company in Great Bend.
Mong was a member of First Church of God and Barton County 4-H, both in
Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Bryan Mong of Hutchinson
and Bruce Mong of Ellinwood; one daughter, Patricia Ross of Seminole,
Okla.; his parents of Great Bend; one brother, Clinton Mong of Ellinwood;
one sister, Barbara Bitnoff of Belpre; and two granddaughters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dick Ogle
officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Stafford County
with military honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call
until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, all at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.
Fredia M. Smith 1912-2000
Fredia M. Smith, 88, died Sept. 5 at her home in Great Bend. She was born
Feb. 11, 1912. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by
Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.
Clark Harold Solso 1919-2000
Clark Harold Solso, 81, died Aug. 29 at Hillcrest Health Rehabilitaion
Center in Wayzata, Minn. He was born April 25, 1919, at Hitterdal, Minn.,
the son of Henry and Bertha Johnson Solso. He was a 1937 graduate of Newman
Grove High School in Nebraska. He attended the University of Nebraska. He
married Irene Marie Wedell Aug. 10, 1946, in New York. She died March 3,
1989. A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Norfolk, Va., he was
co-owner of Cen-Kan Supply, an electrical and plumbing wholesale business,
in western Kansas.
Solso was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great
Bend, Sunflower Shrine Club, Masons, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign
Wars and Elks Lodge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World
War II on the USS New Orleans.
Survivors include three daughters, Julie Guelich of Edina, Minn., Christine
Huber Solso of Bloomington, Minn., and Jane Stabler of Keene, N.H.; one
sister, Lois Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and special
friend, Mary Anne Mull.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Diana
Coberly officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call from 1-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, all at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to
the church, in care of the funeral home.
Walter Calvin Cooper 1907-2000
SYLVIA - Walter Calvin Cooper, 93, died Aug. 31 at Hutchinson Hospital. He
was born Aug. 26, 1907, near Plevna, the son of Calvin A. and Martha Norman
Cooper. He attended Hopewell and Plevna schools. He married
Alta Irene Darr
Aug. 26, 1930, at Langdon. She died Sept. 22, 1982. A resident of Sylvia
since 1967, coming from Langdon, he was a farmer and mechanic.
Cooper was a member of Langdon Christian Church, where he served as a
deacon and elder, past member of Langdon School Board, past member of
Plevna Co-Op board and past member of Reno County A.S.C.A. board.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Darrel Cooper of Sylvia and Alfred Jack
Cooper of Stafford; one daughter, Karen Ann Cooper of Carl Junction, Mo.;
nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three
stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dow
Cooper, Lloyd Cooper and Otto Cooper; and three sisters, Zelda, Alpha and
Cora.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Burial
will be at Peace Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at
the chapel. Memorials are suggested to Sylvia Senior Center or Cystic
Fibrosis, both in care of the funeral home.
Burnice Irene Otte 1923-2000
Burnice Irene Otte, 77, died Aug. 30 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born June 3, 1923, at Scott City, the
daughter of William F. and Rada Barger Beaton. She married
Loyal E. Otte
Nov. 22, 1941, at Wichita. A resident of Great Bend since 1937, coming from
Scott City, she was a county treasurer clerk for Barton County.
Mrs. Otte was a member of First Christian Church, Shamrock Social Club,
Elks Lodge and Ladies of the Elks Lodge, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Gary L. Otte of Grand
Fork, N.D.; one daughter, Melodie Friedebach of Jefferson City, Mo.; one
brother, William E. Beaton of Scott City; five grandchilden; and three
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Kent E. Otte;
and one sister, Beatrice Wilson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. William F.
Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great
Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, all
at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to
the church building fund, in care of the funeral home.
Linda M. Bott 1948-2000
LA CROSSE - Linda M. Bott, 51, died Aug. 30 at Hays Medical Center, St.
Anthony's Campus in Hays. She was born Nov. 18, 1948, at La Crosse, the
daughter of Marvin and Mary Schaffer Urban. She married
Greg Bott Feb. 4,
1967, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse. A lifetime resident of
Rush County, she was a deputy Rush County clerk from 1981-1985 and Rush
County clerk from 1985 until her death.
Mrs. Bott was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse,
Kansas Association of Counites, South Central County Clerks' Association
and Kansas County Clerk and Election Officers' Association, where she
served on the audit, scholarship, legislative and elections committees. She
also served on the St. Michael's social commission.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Stefanie Parrott
of La Crosse; her mother, Mary Urban Herman of La Crosse; one brother,
Ronald "Mac" Urban of La Crosse; and one grandchild.
Rosary service will be at 7:30 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the
Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City
Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials

Gary Randa 1967-2000
HUTCHINSON - Gary Randa, 33, died Aug. 30 at his home in Hutchinson. He was
born June 24, 1967, at La Crosse, the son of Marvin A. and Mary Ann Herrman
Randa. A resident of Hutchinson for 2 1/2 years, coming from Washington,
D.C., he was an electricain for Cheney Door Company in Hutchinson.
Randa was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in Desert Storm.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Amanda Randa of Oceanside, Calif.;
his mother; three brothers, Ronald Randa and Leslie Randa, both of La
Crosse and Lyle Randa of Wichita; five sisters, Doris Scheideman, Nadine
Foreman and Pamela Winkler, all of Haysville, Linda Gottschalk of Lenexa
and Marilyn Hill of Casper, Wyo.
Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church in Liebenthal with
the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery
in Liebenthal. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Heritage Fund or donor's choice,
both in care of the funeral home.
Clarice O. Triplett 1914-2000
ELLINWOOD - Clarice O. Triplett, 86, died Aug. 31 at her home in Ellinwood.
She was born Jan. 29, 1914, at Sisterville, W.V., the daughter of Thomas A.
and Mary Blanche Henderson Tuttle. She graduated as a registered nurse with
a bachelor's of science degree from Wesley School of Nursing. She married
Joseph P. Triplett Sept. 20, 1938. He died. A resident of Ellinwood for
almost 60 years, she was a retired school nurse for Ellinwood Schools and
taught nursing classes in El Dorado and Great Bend.
Mrs. Triplett was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood
and Tuesday Bible Study Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Joanita Doll Masden of Ellinwood; nine
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
daughter, Sue Duft; and one granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Larry
Young officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call
from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 3-8 p.m. Monday, all at Kimple Funeral Home
in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Barton County Diabetes Association
or Ellinwood Area Health Care Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
Bobby N. Black 1931-2000
WICHITA - Bobby N. Black, 69, died Aug. 30. He was born March 20, 1931, in
Montgomery County, the son of Louis Guy and Sarah Ellen Barker Black. A
resident of Wichita, he was an avionics technician for Honeywell and RCA.
Survivors include one son, Douglas James Black of Wichita; two daughters,
Lisa Ann Wright of Wichita and Tracey Lee Harrison of Enid, Okla.; one
brother, Louis Elmer "Bud" Black of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel in Wichita.
Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita. Memorials are
suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund of Wichita or Emmanuel
Christian School of Enid, both in care of the funeral home.
Alan Brent Thornburg 1964-2000
ATTICA - Alan Brent Thornburg, 36, died Oct. 28 in Medicine Lodge. He was
born Sept. 13, 1964, in Great Bend, the son of Charles C. and Marilyn I.
Thornburg. A resident of Attica, he was a oil rig operator for Shawnee Well
Service in Attica.
Survivors include his mother of Hudson; one son, Timothy Alan Thornburg of
Webster, Neb.; four brothers, Carl O. Hicks of Salina, Audie Lee Thornburg
of Eureka, Timothy Ray Thornburg of Billings, Mont., and Warren C.
Thornburg of Hudson; and one sister, Joy Pauline Monroe of Roanoke, Texas.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel, Inc. in St. John
with the Rev. Carl Feril officiating. There will be a private family
inurnment at Trinity cemetery in Hudson. Memorials are suggested to the
American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association, both in care of
the chapel.
