Lawrence Clinton Moore 1926-2000
Lawrence Clinton Moore, 73, died Sept. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Elsmore, the
son of Lawrence Earl and Nell Florence Swanson Moore. A resident of Great
Bend, he was a field supervisor for Hallilburton Energy Services, retiring
in 1989.
Moore attended First Christian Church in Great Bend. He was a member of
Masonic Lodge 15, Isis Shrine, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3111, American
Legion Post 180, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge, all of Great Bend. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, Timothy A. Moore of Great Bend; two daughters,
Denise McPherson of Weatherby Lake, Mo., DaNean Tolle of Valley Center; one
brother, James O. Moore of Austin, Tx; one sister, Marylyn Berry of Topeka;
and seven grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Chapel with the
Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Elsmore cemetery in Elsmore, with Lloyd Houk officiating. Friends may call
until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Shriners
Children's Hospital or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral
home.
Ruth L. Carter 1905-2000
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Ruth L. Carter, 94, died Sept. 13 at Boswell Hospital in
Sun City. She was born Oct. 26, 1905, at Eureka, Calif., the daughter of
Oscar William and Lottie Lydia Redell Lord. She married
McKean Carter April
23, 1927, at Reno, Nev. He died in 1971. A resident of Sun City since 1983,
coming from Russell and Gorham, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Bill Carter of Phoeniz, Ariz.; one daughter,
Susan Curtis of Great Bend; five grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, McKean Carter
Jr.
Burial will be at Russell. Arrangements will be scheduled later by
Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell. Memorials are suggested to Russell Food
Pantry, in care of the mortuary.
Lawrence 'Larry' Moore 1927-2000
Lawrence "Larry" Moore, 72, died Sept. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 22, 1927. Survivors and
funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend.
Earl M. Atteberry 1909-2000
HUTCHINSON - Due to misinformation from the funeral home, in the obituary
information printed Sept. 17 for Earl M. Atteberry, there are some
corrections that need to be made. He was born in Ray. His father's name was
Guy Manson. In addition to being preceded in death by three brothers and
one sister, he was also preceded in death by one grandson.
Ines Minnie Bell 1912-2000
WELLINGTON-Ines Minnie Bell, 88, died Sept. 16 at Sumner Regional Medical
Center in Wellington. She was born April 26, 1912, southeast of Wellington,
the daughter of Mack Samuel and Velma M. Blake Martin. She married
Alva
Melvin Bell March 12, 1934, at Wellington. He died October 2, 1993. A
resident of Wellington, coming from Hunnewell and Mayfield, she was a
homemaker and worked at the Wellington Hospital until her retirement.
Mrs. Bell was a member of First Christian Church and worked at the Senior
Center.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Bell of Great Bend; four brothers, Guy
Henry Martin of Grand Junction, Colo., Donald Ray Martin and Halbert Don
Martin, both of Wellington; and Roy Eugene Martin of Fall Brook, Calif.;
three sisters, Helen Irene Creed of Imperial Beach, Calif., Myrtle Eliza
Cox of Wichita and Peggy Joyce Rose of Wellington; two grandchildren; and
four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie
Bell; and one grandson.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church in Wellington. Burial
will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 8 today
and 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday, all at Hawks Funeral Home in Wellington.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Senior Citizen Center, both
in care of the funeral home.
Maxine Mae Sexson 1921-2000
Maxine Mae Sexson, 79, died Sept. 17 at Good Samaritan Center in Lyons. She
was born Feb. 2, 1921, at Barnard, Mo., the daughter of Benjamin and Etta
Bare Tompkins. She married
Charles Edward Sexson Aug. 6, 1945, at Miami,
Fla. He died April 23, 1991. A longtime resident of Lyons, she was a
homemaker and a nurse's aide at Great Bend Manor.
Mrs. Sexson was a member of Church of Christ and American Legion Auxiliary,
both of Barnard.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Frederick Sexson of Wichita and Lloyd
Lavelle Sexson of Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters, June Price of Great
Bend and Deborah Ann Crable of Abilene; one brother, Ben Tompkins of
Barnard; two sisters, Thelma Dougan and Mary Tompkins, both of Maryville,
Mo.; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son,
Kevin Edward Sexson; six brothers, Glenn Tompkins, Bill Tompkins, Everett
Tompkins, Orville Tompkins, Ray Tompkins and John Tompkins; one sister Lula
Dougan; and one grandson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barnard United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Brenda Abplanalp officiating. Burial will be at Barnard
Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 today and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Tuesday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are

Mary Jaunita Murta 1919-2000
Mary Jaunita Murta, 81, died Sept. 14 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born June 1, 1919, at Hamilton County,
Ill., the daughter of Greg and Myrtle Clark Smith. She married
Samual
Edward Murta March 23, 1942, at Las Vegas, Nev. He died May 26, 1947. A
resident of Great Bend since 1996, coming from McLeansboro, Ill., she
worked in food service and was employed by a garment manufacturer.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Murta of Great Bend; one brother, Clyde
Smith of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one half sister, Muriel Rich of Carmi, Ill.;
and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two half brothers and
two half sisters.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro
with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at I.O.O.F.
Cemetery in McLeansboro. Friends may call from 6-9 tonight at the funeral

Anna Amalia 'Mollie' Berschauer 1909-2000
WAKEENEY - Anna Amalia "Mollie" Berschauer, 91, died Sept. 17 at Trego
Lemke Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care in WaKeeney. She was born Feb. 28,
1909, at a farm in Russell County, the daughter of Jacob George and
Katarina Mai Deines. She attended school in rural Trego County. She married
William "Bill" Berschauer June 18, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church in
WaKeeney. He died Sept. 2, 1970. A resident of WaKeeney, she was a
housekeeper in various offices at WaKeeney.
Mrs. Berschauer was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Lydia Circle,
both in WaKeeney.
Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Dean Berschauer of Albert; two
daughters, Norma Lee Cunningham of WaKeeney and Merna Ellertson of Assaria;
two sisters, Martha Mai of Sharon Springs and Marie Koleber of Loveland,
Colo.; one half sister, Elfrieda Graham of Kirkland, Wash.; 12
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She
was preceded in death by five brothers, Emanuel, Paul, Sieghardt, Herbert
and Alfred; one half brother, Daniel Deines; three sisters, Helen Dietz,
Eleanora Wilmetta Deines and Anita Magdalene Deines; and one great-grandson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Randy
Gibbs officiating. Burial will be at WaKeeney City Cemetery. Friends may
call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Memorials

Rev. Dr. Arlen J. Bruns 1915-2000
TOPEKA - Rev. Dr. Arlen J. Bruns, 85, died Sept. 16 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born May 23, 1915, at Denver, Iowa, the son of Herman J. and Emma
Matthias Bruns. He married
Esther Koch Nov. 8, 1942, at Garden City. A
resident of Topeka, he served in many churches throughout Kansas.
Bruns was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and served as
a volunteer with Lutheran Braille Workers. He was a 1938 graduate of
Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., and in 1939 was ordained into the
Lutheran ministry at St. John's Lutheran Church in Meade, where he served
until 1944. He served Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend for 20 years
and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City from 1964-1970. Bruns served
on the board of directors from 1951-1960 and as president from 1960-1978
for Kansas District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Bruns of Fair Oaks Ranch,
Texas, and Gordon Bruns of Forest Park, Ill.; one daughter, Lois Richters
of Utica, Neb.; one sister, Alida Brettmann of Waverly, Iowa; and three
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in
Topeka. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-7

Earl M. Atteberry 1909-2000
HUTCHINSON - Earl M. Atteberry, 90, died Sept. 16 at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Sept. 25, 1909, at Wray, the son of Guy Madison and Grace Birks
Atteberry. He married
Zelpha Grace Scott, Oct. 24, 1933, in Dodge City. She
died Aug. 21, 1995. He was a resident of Hutchinson since 1941, having
moved there from Great Bend. He was a retired Dodge automobile dealer.
Atteberry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
Survivors include one son, Larry J. Atteberry of Pinecliffe, Colo.; three
brothers, Duane Atteberry of Payson, Ariz., and Darrell Atteberry and Arlis
Atteberry, both of Larned; two sisters, Eva Hiett of Denver, Colo., and
Velma Gish of Lyons; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Clifford and Glenn
Atteberry; and one sister, Marjorie Buck.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in
Hutchinson. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Hospice
of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
