Daniel C. Ochs Sr. 1914-2000
STERLING - Daniel C. Ochs Sr., 85, died Sept. 24 at Hutchinson Hospital. He
was born Oct. 24, 1914, at Hoisington, the son of Phillip and Elisa Ochs.
He married Doris Cook Oct. 18, 1942, at Hutchinson. She preceded him in
death. A resident of Sterling for 12 years, coming from Hutchinson and Lane
County, he was a farmer.
Ochs attended 10th Avenue United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
Survivors include one son, Daniel C. Ochs Jr. of Sterling; two daughters,
Margaret Burkhart of Kansas City and Mary Wallsten of Hutchinson; one
sister, Esther Schlessiger of Claflin; seven grandchildren; one
stepgrandchild; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
five brothers, Calvin Ochs, Ted Ochs, Paul Ochs, Joe Ochs and Sigmond Ochs;
and one sister, Bertha Ochs.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington with the Rev. Alan Stambaugh officiating. Burial will be at
Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until
service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to
American Diabetes Association or the church, both in care of the funeral
home.
Sept. 25, 2000

Harold W. Schreiber 1914-2000
CLAFLIN - Harold W. Schreiber, 85, died Sept. 24 at his home in Hoisington.
He was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Barton County, the son of John and Minnie
Hampel Schreiber. He married Phyllis Jarchow Sept. 10, 1936, at Lyons. She
died April 27, 1995. A longtime resident of Claflin, moving to Hoisington
in 1997, he was owner of Claflin Cleaners and worked for DS & W Well
service in Claflin.
Schreiber was a member of United Methodist Church in Claflin. He was a U.S.
Navy veteran.
Survivors include one son, Rick Schreiber of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter,
Nancy Kirmer of Hoisington; one sister, Minnie Beck of Great Bend; six
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Raymond Schreiber.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Janet
Myers officiating. Burial will be at Claflin cemetery with military rites
provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428 and American Legion 286.
Friends may call from 4-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, all
at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, and from 9:30 a.m. until
service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the
church, Claflin Ambulance Fund or Kans for Kids, all in care of the funeral
home.
Sept. 25, 2000

Mary Alma Heinrich 1910-2000
GRINNELL - Mary Alma Heinrich, 89, died Sept. 23 at Larned Healthcare and
Living Center. She was born Dec. 1, 1910, in Ellis County, the daughter of
John and Rose Riedel Engel. She married Gabriel Heinrich in 1932 in Ellis
County. He died in 1986. A resident of Larned since July, coming from
Oakley and Grinnell, she was a homemaker and had worked for Grinnell Grade
School, Stuckey's Restaurant in Grinnell and Oakley Manor.
Mrs. Heinrich was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Altar Society
and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Grinnell.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Heinrich of Burrton, Elmer Heinrich of
Jupiter, Fla., LeRoy Heinrich of Oakley and Gary Heinrich of Wichita; three
daughters, Darlene Befort-Medina of Larned, Arlene Downey of Arapahoe,
Neb., and Delores Schneider of Farmington, N.M.; 24 grandchildren; and 39
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Delmar
Heinrich; five brothers, Dick Engel, George Engel, Eddie Engel, Alfred
Engel and one infant brother; five sisters, Kate Selenke, Irene Heinrich,
Sara Weims, Alma Engel and Teckla Engel; and one granddaughter, Cathleen
Heinrich Glassman.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Church Parish Hall in Grinnell.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Roger K.
Meitl officiating. Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic cemetery in
Grainfield. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Church Parish Hall in
Grinnell. Memorials are suggested to Grinnell Senior Center or the church,
both in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home in Oakley.
Sept. 25, 2000

William Jay 'Bill' Andrews 1932-2000
HEBRON, Neb. - William Jay "Bill" Andrews, 68, died Sept. 17 at Hebron. He
was born Feb. 6, 1932, on a farm north of Mankato, the son of William A.
and Wilma I. Smith Andrews. He was a resident of the Blue Valley Care Home
for Retarded and Handicapped in Hebron.
Andrews was a longtime participant in the Mid-Nebraska Program.
Survivors include his mother; and two sisters, Mary Jane Mohler of
Superior, Neb., and Alicia Fricke of Ellinwood. He was preceded in death
one brother, Marvin Andrews.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. today at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior,
Neb., with the Revs. Wendell Mohler and James Brackett officiating. Burial
will be at Mt. Hope cemetery in Mankato. Memorials may be sent in care of
the family, 425 N. Central, Apt. 13, Superior, Neb. 68978.

Daisy O. Edwards 1909-2000
HOISINGTON - Daisy O. Edwards, 91, died Sept. 18 at Rush County Memorial
Hospital Long Term Care Unit in La Crosse. She was born Jan. 27, 1909, at
Steedman, Okla., the daughter of William and Gertha Meadows Goodman. She
married Raymond J. Beams Jan. 21, 1931, at Tishamingo, Okla. He died in
February 1993. She married Jess Edwards in September 1950, at Ada, Okla. He
died Dec. 28, 1969. A Kansas resident since 1954, she was a retired cook.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Alva R. Beams of Green Bay, Wis.; one daughter,
Wanda J. Ford of Hoisington; three sisters, Maxine Chambers of Salina,
Juanita Zumalt of Broken Bow, Okla., and Jean Able of Rice, Texas; 13
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters and two
grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington with the Rev. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at
Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 tonight, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church building fund or donor's choice, in
care of the funeral home.

Grace Louise Husted Collier 1921-2000
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- Grace Louise Husted Collier, 79, died Sept. 16 at her
home in Bloomington. She was born Aug. 17, 1921, at Bunker Hill, the
daughter of Henry Robert and Pearl Holcomb Husted. She was a graduate of
St. Francis High School and attended Fort Hays State College. She married
Kent Collier Jan. 19, 1940, at Stockton. He died. A resident of
Bloomington, coming from Springfield, Ohio, she was an office manager at
Fort Hays State University for 15 years.
Mrs. Collier was a member of United Methodist Church and Methodist Women's
Auxiliary, both in Hays. She served as treasurer of the auxiliary at the
Good Samaritan Center in Hays. She served as executive director of Santa Fe
Trail Association and organized and directed the Santa Fe Trail Caravan in
1961.
Survivors include one son, Henry Collier of Santa Fe, N.M.; two daughters,
Lauren Swindler of Normal, Ill., and Christa Young of Tupelo, Miss.; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
two sons, Roger Kent Collier and Robert Kirk Collier; and one brother, Paul
Husted.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview cemetery in Smith
Center. Interment of ashes will be at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials are suggested to The Grace Collier Scholarship Fund, in care of
the Endowment Association at Fort Hays State University, or to your local
hospice organization.

Leonard Earl Christiansen 1908-2000
Leonard Earl Christiansen, 92, of Great Bend died Sept. 17 at Duncanville,
Texas. He was born Jan. 25, 1908, on the family farm north of Hudson, in
rural Stafford County, the son of Charles Curtis and Anna Marie Koelsch
Christiansen. He married Almeda Mae Beuttel Oct. 10, 1933. She died Aug.
31, 1984. He graduated from 8th grade in Stafford County Schools. A
resident of Great Bend since 1976, he was a farmer.
Christiansen was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ
and BPOE Elks Lodge 1127, both in Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Dr. Ronald and wife Darlene
Christiansen of Hudson, Ohio, Stanley and wife Roaslie Christiansen of
Olathe, and Dr. Don and wife Linda Christiansen (D.O.) of Duncanville, Tx.;
eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two
sister-in-laws, Mrs. Marvin (Glennis) Doll, and Ms. Lois Tucker, both of
Great Bend; one brother-in-law, Delmont Beuttel of Swarthmore, Pa.; and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant son, Keith
Lyle Christiansen; two brothers, Edward Christiansen and Melvin
Christiansen; and five sisters, Mrs. William (Josephine) Burhenn, Dora
Christiansen, Reynold "Viola" Christiansen, Mrs. Henry (Alvina) Langrehr
and Mrs. Cleo (Sophia) Seitzinger.
Committal service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Great Bend Cemetery.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Diana
Coberly officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thurs. and
Fri. at Fryberger Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until service time at the
church. Memorials are suggested to ElderCare INC. Home Services, in care of
the mortuary.

Raymond 'Dutch' H. Folkerts 1922-2000
LARNED - Raymond "Dutch" H. Folkerts, 78, died Sept. 4 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 23, 1922,
the son of Henry George and Nora M. Eskew Folkerts. He married Zara K.
Killingsworth Sept. 30, 1944, at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. A
lifetime Pawnee County resident, he was a retired farmer-rancher.
Folkerts was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, charter member of Ducks
Unlimited Larned Chapter, and past commander of Walter S. Chears Post 106
American Legion, all of Larned. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army
Air Corps, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, SuzAnne P. Kerner of
Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Joan Josefiak of Rozel; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned, with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Larned Emergency Medical Service or the donor's
choice, both in care of the funeral home.
