Bernice C. Gibson 1910-2000
LYONS - Bernice C. Gibson, 90, died Aug. 2 at Lyons Good Samaritan Center.
She was born March 7, 1910, in Barton County, the daughter of John W. and
Agnes Josephine Hoeing Nichols. She married
Alva L. Gibson April 23, 1946,
at Wichita. He died Feb. 25, 1980. A longtime resident of Lyons, coming
from Wichita, she was a homemaker and aircraft employee during World War II.
Mrs. Gibson was a member of United Methodist Church and Lyons Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one brother, Richard B. Nichols of Ellinwood. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Nichols and Albert Nichols; and
one sister, Agnes Canfield.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven cemetery in
Wichita with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Friends may call until 7
tonight at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Lyons
Good Samaritan Center, in care of the funeral home.
Robin Kathleen Scott 1941-2000
LARNED - Robin Kathleen Scott, 58, died Aug. 2 at Hutchinson Hospital. She
was born Oct. 16, 1941, at Long Beach, Calif., the daughter of John T. and
Margaret Kachelman. A resident of Larned since 1978, coming from St. John,
she was a homemaker and medical records clerk at Larned State Hospital.
Scott was a member of New Covenant Church in Larned.
Survivors include her former husband, Michael Lynn Scott of Fort Collins,
Colo.; two sons, David Hoffman of Saginaw, Minn., and Samuel Joseph
Kachelman Scott of Larned; three daughters, Micca Turner and Heather Ann
Burris, both of Larned and Rachel Knittle of Fort Collins; her parents of
St. John; four sisters, Sandra Clark of St. John, Sierra Sue Postier of
Pratt, Alice Fox of Great Bend and Helen Milburn of Winter Park, Fla.; and
14 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned
with the Rev. Rudy Cerullo officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park
Cemetery in St. John. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m.
until noon Saturday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to
Leukemia Society of America, in care of the funeral home.
Gerald A. 'Jerry' Pfeifer 1935-2000
LIEBENTHAL - Gerald A. "Jerry" Pfeifer, 65, died Aug. 2 at Hays Medical
Center in Hays. He was born Jan. 26, 1935, at Liebenthal, the son of Alex
and Mary Doerfler Pfeifer. He married
Joyce Irene Degenhardt Sept. 17,
1955, in Liebenthal. A resident of Liebenthal, he was an equipment operator
and owned Pfeifer Excavating and Ditching. He also worked at the Rush
County Highway Department.
Pfeifer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus
Council 2340, both in Liebenthal, and Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree
Knights of Columbus in Hays.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Francis J. Pfeifer of
Liebenthal and Mark A. Pfeifer of Hays; one daughter, Laura A. Leiker of
Hays; one brother, Joe W. Pfeifer of Hays; four sisters, Florence Matal of
Liebenthal, Caroline Stecklein of Alva, Okla., Marie Schwartz and Elnora
Schmidt, both of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Celestine Pfeifer; and one sister, Armella Schmidt.
Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard
at 6 p.m. Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Vigil
service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary
with the Knights of Columbus Council 2340 and Fourth Degree Knights, all at
the funeral home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the
Revs. Gervase Degenhardt and Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at
St. Joseph cemetery in Liebenthal. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday,
from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday, all at the

Mary Ann Brandt 1939-2000
LA CROSSE - Mary Ann Brandt, 61, died Aug. 2 at Hays Medical Center, St.
Anthony Campus in Hays. She was born June 30, 1939, at Liebenthal, the
daughter of Joseph and Barbara Obholtz Depperschmidt. She married
Carl
Brandt March 9, 1957. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brandt was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Richard Brandt of La
Crosse and Larry Brandt of Dumas, Texas; one daughter, Patty Crowell of
Clearwater; her mother of Ellis; two brothers, Clarence Depperschmidt of
Larned and Leo Depperschmidt of Garden City; five sisters, Lillian Dinges
and Edna Augustine, both of Ellis, Helen McLaughlin of San Diego, Calif.,
and Dorothy Bittel and Angie Bittel, both of La Crosse; and five
grandchildren.
Rosary service will be at 7:30 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev.
Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or donor's choice,
both in care of the funeral home.
Beverliann Wolf 1929-2000
DERBY - Beverliann Wolf, 71, died July 31. She was born July 2, 1929, at
Wichita, the daughter of Carl and Marie Kerbs Kullmann. She was a graduate
of Otis High School and Colorado Women's College. She received her
bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Wichita State University.
She married
Edward Harris. He died. She married
Marine L. Wolf July 30,
1967, at Derby. A resident of Derby, she had worked for a janitorial
service, was employed by Beech Aircraft and was a teacher from 1965-93 in
Derby public schools at Oaklawn, Carlton and Cooper.
Mrs. Wolf was a member of First Christian Church of Derby and was past
worthy matron of the Derby Chapter of Eastern Star 493. In 1980, she was
selected as Derby's Master Teacher, Kansas Master Teacher and was chosen as
one of Hatteberg's People for her work with underprivileged children.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Catherine Sue
Rice of Shawnee Mission and Candice Marie Chestnut of Leawood; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one son, Gregory E. Harris.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at El Paso
Cemetery in Derby. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8

Edna L. Webster 1918-2000
Edna L. Webster, 82, died July 31 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, at Medford, Okla.,
the daughter of Cornelius "C.S." and Helena Ada Dolkey Klassen. She married
Durward Edward "Bill" Webster May 3, 1936, at Neosho, Mo. He died July 11,
1963. A resident of Great Bend since 1943, coming from Neosho, she was a
retired cook.
Mrs. Webster was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, C.E. "Buddy" Webster of Great Bend; one
daughter, Margaret Radford of Great Bend; 14 grandchildren; and 24
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Doyle Webster;
two daughters, Dixie Reed and Ada Rupp; one brother, Albert Klassen; and
one sister, Claris Fenton.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Great Bend cemetery with
the Rev. Muriel T. Stackley officiating. Friends may call until 9 tonight,
and from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Food for the Poor, Inc., in care of
the funeral home.
Grace M. Bauer 1916-2000
BURDETT - Grace M. Bauer, 83, died July 29 at Kaseman Presbyterian
Hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1916, at Dupree, S.D., the daughter of
William and Hannah Duke. She was a graduate of St. John's High School in
Omaha, Neb., and a graduate of Sterling College. She was a school teacher
in Kansas for 15 years.
Survivors include two sons, Philip M. Bauer of Plano, Texas, and Michael R.
Bauer of Murphy, Texas; one brother, William P. Duke of Belen, N.M.; six
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Browns Grove cemetery in
Burdett with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. The body has been cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of Beckwith Mortuary
in Larned.
Mary Ellen O'Brien Shauers 1943-2000
NESS CITY - Mary Ellen O'Brien Shauers, 56, died Aug. 1 at her home in Ness
City. She was born Dec. 29, 1943, at Ransom, the daughter of John and
Myrtle Gleason O'Brien. She married
Lee Shauers. He died. A lifetime
resident of Ness City, she was a deputy registrar of deeds and secretary
for CarMac.
Survivors include one son, Chris Shauers of Queneno; one daughter, Erin
Jeanne Shauers of Ness City; one brother, Gary O'Brien of Ness City; and
two sisters, Lois Shauers of Ness City and Pat VanDegrift of Aurora, Colo.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Parish vigil will be at 7:30 tonight at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev.
Gregory LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Ness
City. Friends may call until 4 today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness
City, and prior to the vigil at the church. Memorials are suggested to the

Dorothy E. Hooker 1912-2000
CONCORDIA - Dorothy E. Hooker, 87, died Aug. 1 at Mount Joseph Senior
Community in Concordia. She was born Dec. 19, 1912, the daughter of John
and Edna Goodwin Douglas. She was a 1932 graduate of Belleville High
School. She married
John H. Hooker July 20, 1935, at Topeka. He died June
13, 1990. A resident of Concordia, coming from Scandia, she was a
bookkeeper and worked in the sales department for Sanborn Lumber Company.
Mrs. Hooker was a member of First United Methodist Church and Leah Chapter
Order of Eastern Star, both in Concordia. She was also a member of AARP.
Survivors include two half-brothers, John Max Douglas of Great Bend and
Kenneth Eugene Douglas of Macon, Mo.; and one half-sister, Joyce Douglas
Hill of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her stepmother,
Bessie Goodwin Douglas; one sister, Marjorie Campbell; and one half-sister,
Helen Lane Clarke.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Chapel in
Concordia with the Rev. Dennis Knapp officiating. Burial will be at
Pleasant Hill cemetery in Concordia. Friends may call until 9 tonight and
from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, all at the chapel. Memorials are
suggested to Mount Joseph Senior Community, in care of the funeral home.
