John J. Sheil 1938-2000

John J. Sheil, 62, died July 3 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita. He was born June12, 1938, in Great Bend, the son of Edward and Pauline Sheil. A longtime resident of Great Bend, he was a retired beauty supply salesman. Survivors include four daughters, Corinne Sheil Clark of Brighton, Colo., Dianne Sheil of Denver, Colo., Roxanne Sheil and Pauline Sheil, both of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Mike Sheil of Denver; two sisters, Ruth Murray of Great Bend and Juanita Jensen of Spokane, Wash.; and one grandchild. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams, Great Bend, KS 67530. Hillside Funeral Homes East in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Loren S. Frank 1933-2000

CANTON - Loren S. Frank, 66, died July 5 at Lindsborg Community Hospital in Lindsborg. He was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Arkansas City, the son of Raymond Victor and Delphia Sarah Forbes Frank. He married Wilma J. Hager Oct. 18, 1957, in Great Bend. A resident of Canton since 1970, coming from Claflin, he was a mechanic for Johns Manville in McPherson. Frank was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Canton, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 in McPherson and American Legion Post 366 of Hillsboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Larry Frank of Galva and Victor Frank of Canton; one daughter, Dianne Frank of McPherson; his mother of Chouteau, Okla.; one brother, Carrol Frank of Great Bend; one sister, Lethea Helems of Chouteau; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Schuefler. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Michael Sharp officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 tonight at Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson. Family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association, all in care of the funeral home.

Curtis A. Uthe 1959-2000

Curtis A. Uthe, 41, died July 4 in Barton County. He was born Jan. 24, 1959, at Mitchell, S.D., the son of Alvie and Mary Joan Snodgrass Uthe. He married Debora S. Zimmerman Sept. 26, 1977, at Presho, S.D. A resident of Great Bend for 23 years, coming from South Dakota, he was a boiler and maintenance technician for Fuller Brush Company. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Nicole S. Liles of Great Bend and Brandi L. Uthe of the home; his parents, Allen and Mary Joan Brinckmeyer of Presho; two brothers, Max Brinckmeyer of Spearfish, S.D., and Jeff Brinckmeyer of Winner, S.D.; five sisters, Cindy Canaga of Loveland, Colo., Rhonda Diedrich of Rapid City, S.D., Tammy Kokas of Los Angeles, Calif., Lisa Brinckmeyer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lynn Brinckmeyer of Spokane, Wash.; and one grandson. He was preceded in death one sister, Mindy Brinckmeyer. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with Chuck Carpenter officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Wildlife and Parks, in care of the funeral home.

David Randall McKinnis

1957-2000 ARKANSAS CITY - David Randall "Randy" McKinnis, 42, died July 4 at Riverside Hospital in Wichita. He was born Nov. 5, 1957, in Lyons, the son of Darold R. and Betty C. Hillard McKinnis. A resident of Arkansas City, he was a carpenter. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Darold and Tab McKinnis of Arkansas City; one daughter, Marsha Gosset of Salina; one brother, Randy L. McKinnis of Arkansas City; two sisters, Karen L. Brown of Great Bend and Charity McKinnis of Arkansas City; three stepbrothers, Skip Bolia of Arkansas City, Jerry Bolia of New Kirk, Okla., and Robert Bolia of Kansas City, Mo.; and one stepsister, Teresa Buell of Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Church cemetery in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the Alcoholic's Anonymous chapter of donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Florence Emma Sunley Engle 1905-2000

Florence Emma Sunley Engle, 94, died July 5 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.

Vera E. Streck 1903-2000

GALATIA - Vera E. Streck, 97, died July 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Douglas M. Carver 1958-2000

LA CROSSE - Douglas M. Carver, 41, died July 4 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Oct. 24, 1958, in Washington, D.C., to Raymond and Velma Herrman Carver. A longtime resident of Rush County, he was a meat cutter for Pat's Beef Jerky. Carver was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Liebenthal. Survivors include his parents; former wife, Jane Reeves of Seattle, Wash.: one daughter, Andrea Carver of Hays; three brothers, Rick Carver of Superior, Colo., Scot Carver of Colby and Patrick Carver of Hays; two sisters, VeRae Starkey of La Crosse and Paula Hayes of Liebenthal; and companion, Diane McFarren of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Audrey Jane Carver. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Andrea Carver Educational Fund, in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.

Charles Lee Miles 1927-2000

LIBERAL - Charles Lee Miles, 72, died July 1 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 5, 1927, at Pleasant Hill, La., the son of Charles L. and Cassie Bruce Miles. A resident of Liberal, he worked in the oil industry and was employed by Wakefield Production of Liberal for 17 years. Survivors include one son, Charles E. Miles of Wichita; one daughter, Glenda L. Cooper of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Yancey. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Great Bend Cemetery. Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard F. Bunselmeyer Sr. 1916-2000

HUDSON - Leonard F. Bunselmeyer Sr., 83, died July 5 at his home. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. July 6, 2000

Hugh C. Humphrey 1922-1999

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Hugh C. Humphrey, 77, died Nov. 7, 1999, at his home in Chula Vista. He was born July 7, 1922, in Hoisington, the son of George and Margaret Corrigan Humphrey. He married Elvera Steinert Aug. 29, 1971, in San Diego, Calif. A resident of Chula Vista since 1970, coming from Hoisington, he was a retired gantry operator from NASSCO Shipbuilders of San Diego. Humphrey was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Chula Vista. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a machinist mate, first class.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Charles L. Humphrey of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Trena Sue Logan of Albuquerque, N.M.; one stepson, Michael L. Cummins of Chula Vista; one stepdaughter, Sandra K. Berland of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Memorial graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. John Church cemetery in Hoisington with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Viola H. Warner 1913-2000

HOISINGTON - Viola H. Warner, 86, died July 4 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Hoisington, the daughter of Jacob and Hanna Templing Margheim. She married Harold Warner March 28, 1940, in Wichita. He died May 4, 1997. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Warner was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Hoisington.

Survivors include one son, Gary Warner of Georgetown, Texas; and one sister, Helen Morgenstern of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Warner; and two brothers, Rudolph and Marvin Margheim. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Gerald E. Komarek 1913-2000

ELLINWOOD - Gerald E. "Shorty" Komarek, 86, died July 4 at Ellinwood District Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Ellinwood, the son of Henry and Emma Schmidt Komarek. He married Marie Oberle April 21, 1936, in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he was the retired owner and operator of Komarek Sanitation and Classic Lanes and former elevator operator at Dartmouth Elevator for Wolf Milling. Komarek was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both in Ellinwood, Eagles Lodge in Great Bend and a volunteer for the Ellinwood Fire Department for 18 years.

Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Jerry Komarek and Tom Komarek, both of Ellinwood, Jim Komarek of Colorado Springs, Colo., Henry Komarek of Salina and Steve Komarek of Hutchinson; three daughters, Evelyn Duke of Buckeye, Ariz., Ruth Komarek of Alexandria, Va., and Mary Standlee of Ellinwood; one brother, Donald Komarek of Liberal; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters and one grandchild. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a K of C rosary, both at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Irene S. Neal 1911-2000

Irene S. Neal, 89, died July 3 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 6, 1911, in Marion County, the daughter of Edward C. and Lena Heer Ehnstedt. She married John Thomas Neal July 23, 1946, in Chanute. He died March 24, 1972. A resident of Great Bend since 1967, coming from Hutchinson, she was a sales clerk at Dillons for 16 years. Mrs. Neal was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Silver and Gold Club, High Rise Kitchen Band and a volunteer at Central Kansas Medical Center, all in Great Bend.

Survivors include one nephew, Rex Danford of Anaheim, Calif.; and three nieces, Susie Renfro of Great Bend, Barbara Simon of Hampton Cove, Ala., and Diane Treadwell of Charlotte, N.C. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Miller and Olga Danford. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jana Baxter officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, in care of the funeral home.

Curtis A. Uthe, 41, of Great Bend, died July 4 as the result of a automobile accident. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Erma Lee Hurst 1927-2000

SEWARD - Erma Lee Hurst, 72, died July 4 at Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. She was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Wichita, the daughter of Charles R. and Inez Blankenship. She married Ernest E. Hurst Jan. 8, 1945, in Lyons. A resident of Seward, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hurst was a past member of First Presbyterian Church in Chase.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Gail D. Hurst of Boulder, Colo., and Logan Lee Hurst of New York City, N.Y.; one daughter, Carma M. Jackson of Norman, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arlen Ray Blankenship and Val Gene Blankenship. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel Inc., in St. John with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Parkinsons Disease Research, in care of the funeral home.
