Mary Josephine 'Jo' Brenner 1913-2000
LARNED - Mary Josephine "Jo" Brenner, 87, died July 25 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born March 21, 1913,
at Ulysses, Neb., the daughter of John and Matilda Conroy McGowen. She was
a graduate and alumnus of Sacred Heart College in Omaha, Neb. She married
William Rush Brenner Aug. 6, 1940, at San Rafael, Calif. A resident of
Larned since 1946, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brenner was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, Altar
Society, Better Homemaker Extension Unit, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary,
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Western Kansas EX-POW. She was a
past director of Pawnee County Red Cross Blood Mobile Unit for seven years,
Food Pantry, past Santa Fe Trail Museum volunteer and past Boy Scouts and
Girl Scouts leader, all in Larned. She received the Business Professional
Women's Retired Woman of the Year awarded in 1991.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, William R. Brenner of
Williamsburg, Va., and Robert J. Brenner of Wichita; three daughters,
Barbara Polston of Kansas City, Mo., Ann Margaret Armstrong of Fairbanks,
Alaska, and Katherine Dickison of Eugene, Ore; and 11 grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Brenner; and two brothers, John
McGowen and Lawrence McGowen.
Parish wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, followed by an
Altar Society Rosary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned
Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Friday, all at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to
Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Gladys M. Davis 1922-2000
Gladys M. Davis, 78, died July 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be

Lloyd Crain 1925-2000
Lloyd Crain, 75, died July 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose

Roger Mathias Kramp 1928-2000
ELLINWOOD - Roger Mathias Kramp, 71, died July 26 at his home in Ellinwood.
He was born Nov. 8, 1928, at Ellinwood, the son of George and Rosa Heyne
Kramp. He was a 1946 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He married
Norma
Jean Schnittker Jan 15, 1955, at Pratt. She died Aug. 5, 1982. He married
Karen Spangenberg Gatton March 3, 1984, at Ellinwood. A lifetime resident
of Ellinwood, he was a farmer and stockman.
Kramp was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Ellinwood, Knights of
Columbus, a board member of St. Joseph School Endowment Fund and a board
member and past president of Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He served on
the Lakin Township Board 11 years and on the Ellinwood School Board for
four years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1954-1956.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Kevin Kramp of Ellinwood
and Kyle Kramp of Kansas City, Mo.; five daughters, Shannon Richardson of
Salina, Diane Becker of Seneca, Donna Bell of Kansas City, Mo., Zane
Jackson of Hutchinson and Kaylene Kramp of Manhattan; two stepsons, Michael
Gatton of Radium and Pat Gatton of Ellinwood; one stepdaughter, Jolene
Snell of Ellinwood; one sister, Rachel Little of Wichita; and 20
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kerry Michael Kramp.
Parish wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a Knights of
Columbus Rosary, all at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. David Flagor officiating.
Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may
call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral
home.

Kenneth D. Farnsworth 1922-2000
PAMPA, Texas - Kenneth D. Farnsworth, 78, died July 24 in Pampa. He was
born June 24, 1922, at Jennings, Okla. He married
Donna Patterson Oct. 23,
1994, in Pampa. He was a resident of Pampa since 1994, coming from
Hoisington.
Farnsworth was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Pampa. He was a U.S.
Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Michael Farnsworth of
Decatur, Ill., Douglas Farnsworth of Killeen, Texas, and Terry Farnsworth
of Fort Smith, Ark.; one sister, Nelda Gideon of Albuquerque, N.M.; and
several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby
Farnsworth.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel
in Pampa, with the Rev. Jerry Pollard officiating. Graveside services will
be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hoisington cemetery with the Rev. Bob Courtney
officiating. Military rites will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 7428 and American Legion Post 286, both of Hoisington. Memorials are
suggested to Calvary Assembly of God Building Fund, 1030 Love, Pampa,
Texas, 79065. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carmichael-Whatley

Roger R. Peters 1923-2000
Roger R. Peters, 77, died July 25 in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral
arrangements will be announced by Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.
Lawrence R. Smith 1925-2000
HOISINGTON - Lawrence R. Smith, 75, died July 22 at Clara Barton Hospital
in Hoisington. He was born May 2, 1925, at Hoisington, the son of Ray and
Helen McCaffree Smith. He married
Marvel Hixson Jan. 2, 1946, in New York,
N.Y. A resident of Hoisington, he was an electrical engineer and manager of
Kansas Brick & Tile, Inc. of Hoisington.
Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hoisington Masonic
Lodge 331 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post 286 and member of board of
directors and president of Kansas Brick & Tile, Inc. of Hoisington. He was
a U. S. Navy veteran serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Bradford L. Smith of
Hoisington; two daughters, Marlena Rae Miller of Bismarck, N.D., and Terry
Elizabeth Anderson of Hollywood, Fla.; one sister, Nona Jo Jamison of
Hoisington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Wayne
Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery with masonic
graveside rites by Hoisington Masonic Lodge 331 A.F. & A.M. and military
honors by American Legion Post 286 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home in Hoisington and 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at

Marvin Charles Meyer 1919-2000
CHENEY - Marvin Charles Meyer, 81, died July 21 at his home in Cheney. He
was born July 20, 1919, at Cheney, the son of William J. and Anna
Schierenbeck Meyer. He married
Wanda L. Lorenz May 22, 1946, at Hutchinson.
A resident of Cheney, he was an aircraft machinist.
Meyer was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign
Wars, both of Cheney. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Kevin Meyer of Wichita;
three daughters, Linda Ball and Debbie Ingram, both of Cheney, and Karen
Keesling of Chase; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Meyer; and two sisters,
Buehlah Reid and Loraine Mount.
Funeral was today at the church with the Revs. Kenneth Kaufmann and John
Pool officiating. Burial was at Resthaven cemetery in Wichita. Memorials

William D. Hoberecht 1909-2000
William D. Hoberecht, 91, died July 20 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born June 17, 1909, at Newton, the son of George L. and Katie Enns Hoberecht. He married
Gladys Marie Howard July 14, 1929, in Newton. A resident of Great Bend since 1994, coming from Bremerton, Wash., he worked in the oil industry for Halliburton and Dowell Well Services, Sun Cementing Co. and Ace Pipe Pulling. Hoberecht was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge 15, Commandry Knights Templar, all in Great Bend, and Isis Temple in Salina. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Russell D. Hoberecht of Great Bend, Leland G. Hoberecht of Derby and Donald L. Hoberecht of Wichita; two daughters, Glenna M. Bone of Bremerton, Wash., and Thelma A. Buettgenbach of Pratt; 17 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Hoberecht and Herman Hoberecht; and four sisters, Esther Schmidt, Eva Gates, Sarah Plummer and Ruth Polston. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Tenie A. Mendenhall 1911-2000
LA CROSSE - Tenie A. Mendenhall, 89, died July 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born March 13, 1911, at Berryville, Ark., the daughter of William W. and Orpha E. Standlee Leatherbury. She married
John C. "Jack" Mendenhall Oct. 28, 1928. He died Sept. 9, 1961. A resident of La Crosse, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Mendenhall was a member of First Christian Church in La Crosse. Survivors include one son, Jack Mendenhall of La Crosse; four daughters, Lois Cunningham of La Crosse, Jeanette Rogers of McCracken, Barbara Owen of Seward and Linda Schenk of Albert; two sisters, Margaret Brown of Garden City and Orpha Glee Freeman of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Leona L. Mendenhall and Reettia Wittman; five brothers, Ernest Leatherbury, James Leatherbury, David Leatherbury, Doyle Leatherbury and Cecil Leatherbury; two sisters, Pauline Knight and Reettia Brown; and two grandchildren. Flower service will be at 7:30 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Troy Schroeder officiating. William Henry Cool 1909-2000
GIBBON, Neb. - William "Bill" Henry Cool, 90, died July 20 at Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon. He was born Aug. 18, 1909, at Enterprise, the son of William and Susan C. Springer Geopfert. He married
Margaret M. Babcock April 12, 1938, in rural Lyons. She died April 7, 1998. A resident of Gibbon since 1993, coming from Lyons, he was a farmer. Cool was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Lyons. Survivors include one son, Archie Cool of Angleton, Texas; one daughter, Darlene Spencer of Gibbon; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and George; one sister, Edith; and one grandson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Janet Weathersbee officiating. Wayne F. Smith 1928-2000
RAYMOND - Wayne F. Smith, 72, died July 20 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born July 18, 1928, at Raymond, the son of Francis and Hilda Rose Smith. A lifetime resident of the Raymond area, he was a farmer and reporter for Kansas Lutheran Layman's League. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Smith was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellinwood where he was an usher and treasurer. He was a member of Fort Larned Old Guard, International Lutheran Layman's League, and past president of both Rice County Historical Society and Coronado Chapter Santa Fe Trail Association. Survivors include one brother, Lowell "Mike" Smith of Raymond. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eloise Loesch. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Carol J. Scheuerman 1937-2000
Carol J. Scheuerman, 62, died July 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born July 28, 1937, at Olathe, the daughter of Merle and Christine Russell Warden. She was a graduate of Burdett High School. She married
Jimmy G. Scheuerman Jan. 21, 1965, at Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1971, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Scheuerman was a member of First Church of God in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Craig Scheuerman of Great Bend; one daughter, Carla Raybern of Great Bend; her mother of Larned; one brother, Carl Warden of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Etta Shuck of Phoenix, Ariz., and Juanita Krueger of Leming, Texas; and one granddaughter, Shayla Raybern. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Brown's Grove cemetery in Burdett. William 'Bill' F. Kirchgassner 1918-2000
LARNED - William "Bill" F. Kirchgassner, 82, died July 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born May 5, 1918, in Pawnee County, the son of James and Mary Ann Marley Kirchgassner. He married
Viola May Marlett Aug. 3, 1940, at Kinsley. She died Feb. 4, 1993. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, he was a retired security guard for Larned State Hospital and a farmer. Kirchgassner was a member of United Methodist Church in Larned. Survivors include two sons, Dewight Kirchgassner and Larry Kirchgassner, both of Larned; two daughters, Celeste Webster of Bridgeport and Kolita Hullett of Larned; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Dewayne Kirchgassner; one daughter, Rebecca Blackwell; three brothers, Galen Kirchgassner, James Kirchgassner and John Kirchgassner; and one halfbrother, Henry. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
