Larry Edward Baker 1953-2000
LARNED - Larry Edward Baker, 46, died May 9 at his home in Larned after a
short illness. He was born May 15, 1953, in New Brunswick, N.J., the son of
Henry and Marion Jean Roloff Baker. A resident of Larned since 1996, he was
a relief cook at Larned State Hospital dietary department.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Henry and Mary Ann Baker of
Florence, Colo.; his mother of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one brother,
John Henry Baker of Colorado Springs.
A memorial service is planned in Colorado. Cremation has taken place.
Inurnment will be at the Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to
Sunrise Inc., in care of Morell Funeral Home of Larned.

Eldon S. 'Punk' Lehr 1913-2000
Eldon S. "Punk" Lehr, 86, died May 12 at Via Christi Regional Medical
Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born May 27, 1913, in rural
Reno County, the son of Frank L.and Bertha Stebbins Lehr. He married
Jean
Cantwell Sept. 9, 1970, in Red Cloud, Neb. A resident of Great Bend since
1952, coming from Hutchinson, he was a retired director of meat operations
for C.O. Mammel Food Stores.
Lehr was a member of Central Baptist Church and Elks BPO Lodge 1127, both
of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Jeri Brozek of Great
Bend; two stepsons, Jay Wirick of Preston and Randy Wirick of Stilwell; one
stepdaughter, Janet Cobb of Bates City, Mo.; one brother, James Lehr of
Holiday Island, Ark.; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one son, Larry Lehr; four brothers, Earl Lehr, Lawrence Lehr,
Virgil Lehr and Frank Lehr; and two sisters, Audrey Titus and Thelma Eastes.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend with the Rev. Jim Newkirk officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend
Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday
and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to Relay for Life, in care of the funeral home.

Brian Ewen Zeretzke 1963-2000
Brian Ewen Zeretzke, 37, died June 19 at his home in Great Bend. He was
born May 27, 1963, in Bottineau, N.D., the son of Eddie and Francis
Zeretzke. A resident of Great Bend for 16 years, coming from North Dakota,
he was a homemaker.
Zeretzke was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Michael and Aaron; his parents; one brother,
Bruce; and one sister, Nancy.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Great Bend Army Reserve Center
with Bob LaPierre officiating. Bryant-Christians is in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence C. Meek 1926-2000
CLAFLIN - Lawrence C. Meek, 74, died June 20 at his home in Claflin. He was
born June 16, 1926, at Oilton, Okla., the son of Jessie and Rose Bullings
Meek. He married
Pat Mathis Aug. 9, 1978, at Van Buren, Mo. A resident of
Claflin for 50 years, coming from Windom, he was a retired oilfield
superintendent and a security guard at Doonan Truck and Equipment.
Meek was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8668 of Claflin and
American Legion of Ellinwood. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World
War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Rex Meek of Hoisington;
three daughters, Peggy Ostmeyer of Pecos, N.M., Cheri Chesney of Aurora,
Colo., and Brenda Campbell of Preston; one stepson, Mike Brungardt of Lee's
Summit, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Teri Elder of Independence, Mo.; one
brother, Gene Meek of Lyons; two sisters, Inez Johnson of Coyle, Okla., and
Della Ellwood of Windom; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Meek.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington with the Rev. Arlo Lehmann officiating. Burial will be at Windom
Cemetery in Windom with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends
may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health Care and
Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Opal Faye Ellis Seifert 1907-2000
KINGMAN - Opal Faye Ellis Seifert, 93, died June 18 at the Kingman
Community Hospital. She was born March 14, 1907, in southeast Reno County,
the daughter of Clifford and Armintie Humphrey Ellis. She married
Leonard
W. Seifert June 2, 1935, at Hutchinson. He died May 11, 1983. A longtime
resident of Kingman County, she was a retired employee of Knorr Schlaudt
Wholesale House, Barton Salt Co. and Kingman Soil Conservation office.
Mrs. Seifert was a member of First Presbyterian Church and United
Presbyterian Women, both of Kingman.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Nelson of Claflin; and one
grandson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Ellis and Rollie
Ellis; and one sister, Ruby Ellis.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman
with the Rev. Jane Brigden Graham officiating. Burial will be at Walnut
Hill cemetery in Kingman. Friends may call from 5-8 tonight and from noon
until 8 p.m. Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to
Wheatlands Health Care Center or the church, both in care of the funeral
home.

CLAFLIN - Lawrence C. Meek, 73, died June 20 at his home in Claflin.

Max A. Cook 1914-2000
ELLINWOOD - Max A. Cook, 86, died July 24 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was
born March 6, 1914, at New Castle, Neb., the son of Alfred and Elizabeth
Rahn Cook. He married
Jeff Keeter March 11, 1951, at Wichita Falls, Texas.
A 30-year resident of Ellinwood coming from Great Bend, he was a
seismographer for Geo Search Seismograph Service of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Richard May of
Brownsville, Texas; one daughter, Devaron Zimmerman of Sterling; one
brother, Harvey Cook of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Lois Millie of Nebraska;
and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Cook
in 1992.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lyons cemetery with the
Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Sterling
Public Library, 138 N. Broadway, Sterling. Cremation arrangements were
handled by Great Bend Family Mortuary & Crematory.
Roger Roy Peters 1923-2000
Roger Roy Peters, 77, died July 25 at Great Bend. He was born April 1,
1923, at Hutchinson, the son of Herman and Marie Vogt Peters. He married
Alice Marie Hughes July 5, 1944, at Syracuse. She preceded him in death. He
was a resident of Great Bend since 1948.
Peters was a member of Central Baptist Church, American Legion, Senior
Sportsman Club, KP & L Retirement Club, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S.
Army veteran, having served in World War II.
Survivors include one son, Allan Peters of Great Bend; one daughter, Rogene
L. Winder of Viola; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev.
Gordon E. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8:30 tonight at Fryberger Mortuary. Memorials are
suggested to the Arthritis Foundation in care of the mortuary.
