Eloise M. Rogers 1918-2000
EL PASO, Texas - Eloise Maurine Rogers, 82, died May 25 at the Del Sol
Medical Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1918, at Healy, the daughter of Roy
and Beulah Baxter Watt. She attended school at Healy. She married
Maurice
A. "Buck" Rogers May 22, 1938. He died April 11, 1995. A resident of El
Paso for 29 years, she taught school for one year in Gove County and was a
homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters, Nikki Dryden of Aledo, Texas, Linda Ault
of Grand Rapids, S.D., Karen Koppanyi of Baltimore, Md., and Beth McFarland
of Torrence, Calif.; one brother, Roy Watt of Dodge City; two sisters,
Bonnie Friedly of Hoisington and Dean Matheson of Grand Prairie, Texas; 12
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one daughter, Karen Ponchard; two brothers, Kenneth Watt and George Watt;
two sisters, Gladys York and Marianna Watt; and one grandson, Sandor
Koppanyi.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Martin Funeral Home Central in El
Paso. She was buried at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Memorials are suggested to
St. Pauls United Methodist Church in El Paso, in care of the funeral home.

Doris B. Pearson 1900-2000
GALATIA - Doris B. Pearson, 99, died June 1 at Clara Barton Hospital in
Hoisington. She was born Sept. 2, 1900, at Otis, the daugter of Seward F.
and Huldah M. Jones Pearson. She was a graduate of Fort Hays Normal School
and Fort Hays State University, with a B.A. degree in education. A resident
of Hoisington, coming from Galatia, she was a retired rural elementary
school teacher, having taught in Rush, Barton, Ellis and Russell counties.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist
Women of Hoisington.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. Wayne
Flanders and Joseph Coachman officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Dale
Cemetery in Otis. Friends may call until 5 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday
at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Doris B. Pearson endowment
fund, in care of the funeral home.

Meredith E. Burke 1908-2000
KINGMAN - Meredith E. Burke, 92, died May 31 at Villa Maria Nursing Center
in Mulvane. She was born May 1, 1908, at Logan, the daughter of Charles B.
and Anna Laura Shull Dwelly. She married
Paul B. Burke June 19, 1939 at
Manhattan. He died in December of 1991. A longtime resident of Kingman, she
was a school teacher and a co-owner of Gambles Store.
Mrs. Burke was a member of United Methodist Church in Kingman.
Survivors include two sons, Byron Burke of Derby and Bruce Burke of
Lansing, Mich.; one sister, Doris Brink of Iola; and six grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one brother, John Dwelly; and one sister, Hazel
Hensley.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman with
the Rev. John Schmitt officiating. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m.
Tuesday at Netawaka cemetery in Netawaka. Friends may call until 8 tonight,
from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, all at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or to the Kingman
Library, both in care of the funeral home.

Fred W. Sherman 1905-2000
NEOLA - Fred W. Sherman, 95, died May 30 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford.
He was born Jan. 26, 1905, at Neola, the son of Harry and Rose Nelson
Sherman. He married
Geneva O'Neil June 3, 1928, at Penalosa. A longtime
resident of the Neola community, he was a farmer until he became the
manager of the Neola elevator.
Sherman was a member of Stafford Church of Christ and a charter member of
Stafford Optimist Club. He was an accordian player and the leader of the
Fred Sherman and His Boys band.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Estol Coen and
Florence Holmes, both of Turon; one sister, Maude Crotts of Penalosa; seven
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Alice Sherman, and three
brothers.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Darrel
Murphy officiating. Burial will be at Neola Cemetery. Friends may call from
4-8 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to
the church, in care of the funeral home.

Arden E. Schartz 1926-2000
LARNED - Arden E. Schartz, 74, died May 29 at Via Christi Regional Medical
Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita. He was born April 22, 1926, in
Barton County, the son of Alphones H. and Caroline Auchstetter Schartz. He
married Lorene F. Rose Dec. 18, 1949, in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of
Pawnee County, he was a farmer and contractor.
Schartz was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Larned, Rozel Lyons
Club charter member, Burdett Senior Citizen Center and Holy Rosary Catholic
Church Council, both of Burdett.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, David Schartz of Rozel,
Stephen Schartz of Garfield, Joseph Schartz of Larned, Jerome Schartz of
Kansas City, Mo., and Michael Schartz of Wichita; four daughters, Barbara
Straub of Larned, Teresa Spears of Monmouth, Ill., Juanita Smith of Wichita
and Christine Brenner of Pratt; three brothers, Cletus Schartz and Warren
Schartz, both of Great Bend, and Orville Schartz of Kingman; 26
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one brother, Malvern Schartz.
Vigil service will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in
Larned. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Larned with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Friends may call until 8
p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will
be at Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School
Adopt-A-Student Fund or American Cancer Society, both in care of the
funeral home.

Elsie A. Frieb 1907-2000
OLMITZ - Elsie A. Frieb, 93, died May 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born March 12, 1907, in rural Otis,
the daughter of Charles and Mary Tuzicka Schober. She married
Carl F. Frieb
April 22, 1929, at Olmitz. He died Feb. 12, 1992. A longtime resident of
Olmitz, coming from rural Otis, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Frieb was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and Altar Society,
both of Olmitz.
Survivors include two sons, Marion Frieb and Neil Freib, both of Olmitz;
six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
four brothers, John Schober, Dave Schober, William Schober and Fritz
Schober; and two sisters, Minnie Mayer and Anna Schenk.
Wake service will be at 8:30 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington, followed by Altar Society rosary. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at the church with the Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will
be at the church cemetery in Olmitz. Friends may call until 9 tonight at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, Golden Belt Home
Health and Hospice or donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home.

Elsie A. Frieb 1907-2000
OLMITZ - Elsie A. Frieb, 93, died May 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral arrangements will be

Ella Everett 1911-2000
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Ella Woestman Everett, 88, died May 25 at her home in Las
Vegas. She was born June 11, 1911, on a farm in Barton County, the daughter
of Frank and Alice Evers Woestman. She was one of five children. She had
two brothers, Lyman Woestman and Evlyn Woestman; and two sisters, Grace
Everett and Minnie Fay White. Ella and Grace married
brothers, Frank
Everett and Clarence Everett. She married
Frank Eldon Everett June 18,
1932. He died April 13, 1953. She moved to Denver, Colo., in 1958 to work
for Sigman Meat Co. She was employed there for 18 years. In 1985 she moved
to Las Vegas to be close to her daughter and family.
Survivors include one daughter, Fleeta Joyce Everett Haney and her husband,
John Haney, of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Brant and Brenda Haney; and
one great-grandchild, Mykael Brant. She was preceded in death by all four
of her brothers and sisters.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Great Bend cemetery with the
Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday and from 9-10 a.m. Friday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend. The
family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested
to Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo, in care of the funeral home.
Ruth LaVerne Ash 1905-2000
ELLINWOOD - Ruth LaVerne Ash, 94, died May 29 at Integrated Health Services
of Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was born Aug. 30, 1905, in Winfield, the
daughter of John Riley and Rillie Hill Mitchell. She married
Arthur Ray Ash
Sept. 4, 1925, in Winfield. He died Nov. 20, 1960. A resident of Ellinwood
since 1936, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ash was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and Veterans of
Foreign Wars, both in Ellinwood.
Survivors include one sister, Gladys Laht of Fresno, Calif.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood
with Debra Rains officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday
at Union cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call from 4-8 today at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels, in care of the
funeral home.
