LARNED - Lois L. Edwards, 78, died June 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus in Larned.
She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in rural Rush County, the daughter of Everett O. and Frances M. Bitter Edwards.
A resident of Larned since her retirement in 1982, she was a ticket agent for the B & O Railroad for 40 years.
Miss Edwards was a member of United Methodist Church in Larned.
Survivors include five brothers, Elbert A. Edwards, Everett Edwards Jr., Thomas Edwards and Zane Edwards, all of Bison, and Forrest Edwards of Russiaville, Ind.; and five sisters, Ladine Peterson and Minetta Smith, both of Pawnee Rock, Ruth Anne Krug of La Crosse, Holly M. Brack of Spearman, Texas, and Hazel Stump of Larned.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert A. Edwards; and one sister, Elma Edwards.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating.
Burial will be at the La Crosse City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and prior to the service Saturday, all at the funeral home.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Larned Seniors' Center, Larned Emergency Medical Technicians or Barton County Hospice, all in care of the funeral home.
Hazel S. Simmons
1917-2000
Hazel S. Simmons, 83, died June 6 at Maranatha Lodge in Springfield, Mo.
She was born March 26, 1917, in Oklahoma.
She married
Dick Holt. He died.
She married
Lloyd Gideon. He died.
She married
Everett Simmons. He died.
A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a former employee of Safeway, and worked for Singer Sewing Machine and Cloth World, all of Great Bend.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include five stepsons, Fray Gideon of Kansas, Ron Gideon of Springfield, Gary Simmons of Great Bend, Earl Simmons of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and Melvin Simmons of Greensburg; two stepdaughters, Anna Lee Short of Wichita and Merrie Simmons Evans of Harrisonville, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dick Holt; and one daughter, Janice Holt.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at the Bryant-Christians Funeral Home.

Thomas Noland Pearson
1908-2000
Thomas Noland Pearson, 92, died June 5 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.
He was born March 2, 1908, at Mountain View, Mo., the son of William M. and Nevada Winningham Pearson.
He married
Linda E. Ratzlaff Dec. 28, 1938, at Fairview, Okla.
She died Dec. 26, 1993.
A resident of Great Bend for two years, coming from Enid, Okla., he was a farmer and rancher.
Pearson was a member of the Methodist Church in Enid.
He was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Pearson of Great Bend; one sister, Pauline Brayton of Silver Springs, Md.; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park cemetery in Enid with the Rev. Loren Dyke officiating.
Graveside rites will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2270 of Enid.
Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.
Memorials are suggested to Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
Harry Victor Bernard
1911-1999
LARNED - Harry Victor Bernard, 88, died Dec. 23, 1999, at Bella Vista, Ark.
He was born Dec. 12, 1911, at St. Louis, Mo., the son of William H. and Mary E. Tanner Bernard.
He was a graduate of Zook High School and attended McPherson College.
He married
Dona L. VanHorn in 1936.
He was a store manager for Duckwalls and Alco Stores Inc. for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Dan Alan Bernard of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; one daughter, Mary Ann Satterfield of Lincoln, Neb.; one sister, Marjorie Cline of Larned; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Carl Martin officiating.
The body has been cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of Beckwith Mortuary in Larned.
Velda Marie Kell Blair
1920-2000
LARNED - Velda Marie Kell Blair, 79, died Jan. 18 in San Diego, Calif.
A memorial service conducted by the family will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pawnee Rock cemetery in Pawnee Rock.
Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at 4 p.m. at poolside of the Holiday Inn in Great Bend.
Her daughter, Jean, and son, Steve, will host a dinner there at 5 p.m.

NILES - Lois E. McDowell, 76, died May 25, 2000.
The committal service for the inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Cemetery.

Hazel S. Simmons, 83, died June 6 at Springfield, Mo.

Margaret Emma Fuqua
1920-2000
Margaret Emma Fuqua, 79, died June 5, 2000 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.
She was born July 28, 1920, at Belpre, the daughter of Hugh Thomas and Margaret Cecila Riegel.
She was a 1938 graduate of Radium High School.
She married
William T. Fuqua June 8, 1940, at Tulsa, Okla.
A resident of Great Bend, she was a sales clerk at J.C. Penney.
Mrs. Fuqua was a member of First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Dianne Richards of Great Bend and Nancy Beaty of Kearney, Mo.; one brother, Bill Riegel of Eaton, Colo.; one sister, Joan Ming of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Riegel, Bud Riegel and Francis Riegel; and two sisters, Mary Everett and Mildred Greeson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Xavier cemetery in Seward.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at Minnis Chapel, Inc. in St. John.

Dianna L. Mock
1956-2000
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Dianna L. Mock, 43, died June 3, 2000 at her home in Oklahoma City.
She was born Aug. 15, 1956, in El Dorado, the daughter of Alvin and Joyce Young Gore.
She was a graduate of Plainville High School and Barton County Community College.
She married
Phillip Mock Dec. 20, 1975, at Plainville.
A resident of Oklahoma City since 1996, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Mock was a member of Cherokee Hills Christian Church in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Jonathan Mock of the home; two daughters, Melissa Mock of Manhattan and Stephanie Mock of the home; her parents of Plainville; two brothers, Steve Gore of Hershey, Pa., and Monty Gore of Plainville; and one sister, Gayla Puthoff of Wichita.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Plainville Christian Church in Plainville with the Revs. Kevin Ingram and Wade Russell officiating.
Burial will be at Plainville Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville and from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Opal M. Brown
1918-2000
HUTCHINSON - Opal M. Brown, 81, died June 4, 2000 at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1918, the daughter of Isaac and Millie May Moore Briggs.
She was a graduate of Miltonvale High School.
She married
Vaughn E. Brown Oct. 22, 1938, in Abilene.
A resident of Hutchinson since May 13, coming from Goodland, she and her husband owned and operated a restaurant in Minneapolis, and she was employed for a short time at Booggarts and was a waitress for Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks clubs in Goodland.
Mrs. Brown was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 1133 and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 146, in Minneapolis.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Clinton Brown of Hutchinson and Richard Brown of Great Bend; one brother, Andrew Briggs of Andover; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Goodland cemetery in Goodland with the Rev. Chet Ross officiating.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Bateman Funeral Home in Goodland.
