Loretta A. Hammer 1907-2000
DODGE CITY - Loretta A. Hammer, 92, died April 6 at Manor of the Plains in
Dodge City. She was born Dec. 30, 1907, at McCracken, the daughter of John
Francis and Margaret Cecelia Coleman. She married
R.M. "Max" Washaliski
Dec. 5, 1925. He died Jan. 1, 1958. She married
Dr. Carl E. Hammer March
27, 1965. He died June 28, 1983. She attended Common School at McCracken
and Dodge City Community College and received an LPN degree. A resident of
Dodge City since 1961, she was in nursing and health care having worked at
Ransom Hospital in Ransom, St. Anthony Hospital and two nursing homes and
was a special duty nurse, all in Dodge City.
Mrs. Hammer was a member of Grace Community Church of Dodge City.
Survivors include three daughters, Marguerite Holmes and Marietta Kirk,
both of Dodge City and Vivian L. Simmons of Hutchinson; two sons, R.M.
"Diz" Washaliski of McCracken and W.H. "Skip" Washaliski of Milton, Fla.;
nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step grandson; and two
step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters; three
brothers; and one sister.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City
with the Rev. Kirk Larson officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m.
Saturday at McCracken City cemetery in McCracken. Friends may call until 8
tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, Manor
of the Plains, Hospice of Reno County or donor's choice, all in care of the
funeral home.

Cloyce A. Conner 1934-2000
MEDICINE LODGE - Cloyce A. Conner, 65, died April 6 at his home. He was
born Oct. 16, 1934, at Galatea, Colo., the son of Clarence H. and Lena J.
Ford Conner. He married
Shirley L. Williams Aug. 26, 1950, at Raton, New
Mexico. A resident of Medicine Lodge since 1973, coming from Crescent,
Okla., he was a driller in the oil field.
Conner was a member of Christian Church in Eads, Colo.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Cloyce A. "Butch" Conner
of McAlester, Okla.; three daughters, Donna Payne of Dover, Okla., Dora
Smiley of Shawnee, Okla., and Helen Roan-Roach of Ellinwood; one brother,
Clarence E. Conner of Lamar, Colo.; one sister, Carol Greenwell of Fort
Morgan, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey "Ned" Conner; one brother, Robert
Conner; and two sisters, Arlene Brower and Mary White.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral
Home in Medicine Lodge with the Rev. Tom Walters officiating. There will be
no visitation. The body has been cremated. Memorials are suggested to
Southwind Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Lytle E. 'Ike' Forshee 1918-2000
HUTCHINSON - Lytle E. "Ike" Forshee, 81, died April 6 at Hutchinson
Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson. He was born April 20, 1918,
at Farmington, Mo., the son of Paris G. and Ava Ann Queen Forshee. He
married Loretta Malone Nov. 27, 1941, at Chase. He was a 1936 graduate of
ElDorado High School in ElDorado. A resident of Hutchinson since 1976,
coming from Chase and ElDorado, he was assistant postmaster and a rural
mail carrier in Chase, having retired in May 1973.
Forshee was a member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson, Knights of
Columbus Council 612, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Harvest House, was a
charter nember of Knights of Columbus Council 7922 of Chase, a 4th Degree
Knight in the Columbus Assembly, was past president of National Association
Retired Federal Employees and RSVP Sheriff's Patrol. He was a U.S. Army
veteran having served under Gen. George Patton in the 3rd Army Division and
he received two bronze stars.
Survivors include three sons, Ron Forshee of Wichita, Kent Forshee of
Hutchinson and John Forshee of Enid, Okla.; one daughter, Elaine Forshee
Straub of Great Bend; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two
step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Forshee
and John Forshee and three sisters, Thelma Morton, Florence Gatrell and
Maude Sydnor.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Brian J.
Egan officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson
with military graveside services conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Friends may call until 4 today at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. Memorials
are suggested to the church, Hospice of Reno County, Wesley Towers Good
Samaritan Fund, all in care of the funeral home.

Arthur L. Feltes 1922-2000
HAYS - Arthur L. Feltes, 77, died April 5 at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
He was born June 2, 1922, at Dubuque, the son of Nicholas J. and Marie
Hoffman Feltes. He married
Anita Dreiling Oct. 8, 1947, at Victoria. A
resident of Hays, he was a farmer.
Feltes was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays and Knights of
Columbus Council 2794 in Gorham.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two brothers, Nick Feltis of
Golden, Colo., and Harold Feltis of Topeka; and two sisters, Marie Dechant
of Hays and Yvonne Schumacher of Victoria. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Edward Feltis; and two sisters, Cynthia Herrman and Mary McIntosh.
Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight followed by a Knights of Columbus 2794
rosary at 7:30, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. Earl Befort and
Paulinus Karlin officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 8:30 a.m. to service time
Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Thomas More
Prep-Marian High School or to the church, both in care of the funeral home.

Byron 'Butch' Basye 1960-2000
STAFFORD - Byron "Butch" Bayse, 39, died March 27 at Stafford. Additional
survivors include two stepbrothers, Wayne Dreher of Great Bend and Dean
Dreher of Wichita; and two stepsisters, Diane Dreher of Great Bend and
Debbie Dreher of Wichita. Minnis Chapel of Stafford was in charge of
arrangements.

Joseph M. 'Joey' Mahoney Jr. 1943-2000
RUSSELL - Joseph M. "Joey" Mahoney Jr., 57, died April 2 at Russell
Regional Hospital in Russell. He was born Feb. 26, 1943, at Russell, the
son of Joseph Martin and Maria C. Pivonka Mahoney. He graduated from high
school in Russell and received his BS degree in education at Fort Hays
State College. A resident of Russell for most of his life, he was
owner/manager of the John Deere agency in Russell, was involved in the
petroleum industry and recently was quality control manager at King of the
Road in Russell.
Mahoney was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion, Elks
Lodge and was a Veterans of Foreign Wars life member. He was a U.S. Army
veteran having served during peacetime.
Survivors include one daughter, Traci Backus of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers,
Tim Mahoney of Russell and John Mahoney of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three
sisters, Mary Ann Mahoney of Denver, Colo., Marj Dusay of New York City,
N.Y., and Kathy Dunn of Guymon, Okla.; and one grandchild.
Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Charles
Steier officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in
Russell. Friends may call from 6-9 tonight and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday,
all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Post Rock Chapter, Wild

Ethel Dorothy Duncan Kleck 1908-2000
Ethel Dorothy Duncan Kleck, 91, died April 3 at Topeka. She was born Sept.
24, 1908, at Clay County, the daughter of Homer and Elizabeth Gilliland
Duncan. She married
Harold Kleck Jan. 10, 1934, at Wichita. He died Jan. 4,
1977. A resident of Great Bend since 1942, coming from Russell, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Kleck was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended First
Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lenora McMillan of Topeka and Judy Tuttle
of Lawrence; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, George
Kleck; and all her brothers and sisters.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Great Bend cemetery in Great
Bend with the Rev. Doyle Smith officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, all at Fryberger Mortuary
in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo, in care
of the funeral home.

Chester L. 'Chet' Smith 1924-2000
Chester L. "Chet" Smith, 75, died April 3 at Hospice Residential Care
Center, Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 22, 1924, at
Great Bend, the son of Chester A. and Helen Florence Thorpe Smith. He
married Willa F. Nairn July 29, 1942, at Great Bend. A resident of Great
Bend for the past four years, coming from Pratt, he was a molding
supervisor for Hewlett Packard Company, retiring in 1974. He had formerly
worked for Lane Wells Company.
Smith was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and Disabled American Veterans. He was a
U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Kenneth L. Smith of
Grand Junction, Colo., Clinton R. Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., and Chester R.
Smith of Wichita; one brother, P.D. Smith of Great Bend; one sister, Lila
Gilpin of Hays; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev.
Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock cemetery in
Pawnee Rock with military honors. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Reno County, American
Cancer Society or American Heart Association, all in care of the funeral
home.
