Herman William Schwindt 1915-2000
LA CROSSE - Herman William Schwindt, 84, died April 16 at Rush County
Nursing Home in La Crosse. He was born Oct. 31, 1915, on a farm northwest
of La Crosse, the son of Conrad and Katie Bott Schwindt. He married
Nellie
May Collins May 7, 1939, at Charles and Bertha Collins' home northwest of
Nekoma. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer and stockman.
Schwindt was a member of Larned Federal Land Bank board, Rush County Soil
Conservation District board and trustee of Evangelical United Brethren
Church in La Crosse. He served as a 4-H leader and had served in the
Civilian Conservation Corps in his youth.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gail Schwindt of Timken;
three daughters, Patricia Kay Schwindt of Mesa, Ariz., Diane Joy Hays of
Roseville, Calif., and Pamela Sue Pierce of Leesburg, Ga.; one brother,
Clarence Schwindt of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Sarah Sucht of Larned,
Esther Phillips of Nekoma and Clara Scott of Guymon, Okla.; 11
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one brother, Harry Schwindt; and one sister, Bertha Collins.
Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in La
Crosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Graveside services
will be at La Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to
the Alzheimer's Foundation or the First United Methodist Church in La
Crosse, both in care of the funeral home.

John Fred Wise 1941-2000
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - John Fred Wise, 58, died April 15 at his home. He
was born June 6, 1941, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., the son of Fred and Corrnia
Brown Wise. He married
Linda Scheck June 5, 1965, at Great Bend. A resident
of Charlottesville, having grown up in Dinwiddie County and Petersburg,
Va., and coming from Kansas, he was employed by Fluvanna Corrections for
Women as a superintendent in the mechanic's garage and was employed by the
Virginia Department of Transportation.
Wise was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, John Wise of Palmyra, Va.;
one daughter, Brenda Wise of Derby; one sister, Judy Rosson of
Charlottesville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church in Palmyra. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in
Charlottesville. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hill
and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville.

Clara M. Schmidt 1905-2000
HAYS - Clara M Schmidt, 95, died April 15 at Hays Medical Center-Hadley
Campus in Hays. She was born Feb. 7, 1905, at Catherine, the daughter of
John J. and Sophia Weilert Schmidt. A resident of Hays, coming from
Catherine, she was a cook for the sisters at St. Agnes for 20 years and was
a cook at Fort Hays State University Custer Hall and St. Anthony's Hospital
for 11 years.
She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and St. Catherine's
Altar Society/Christian Mothers.
Survivors include one brother, Harold Schmidt of Great Bend; two sisters,
Florine Froelich of Victoria and Laurita Karlin of Hays. She was preceded
in death by six brothers, Norbert Schmidt, Edgar Schmidt, Bill Schmidt,
Francis Schmidt, Robert Schmidt and Edgar Schmidt I; and three sisters,
Angela Rohr, Alexia Sander and Mary Schmidt.
A St. Catherine's Altar Society/Christian Mothers rosary will be at 6:30
tonight followed by a parish vigil service at 7, both at Hays Memorial
Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the
church with the Rev. Ron Gilardi officiating. Burial will be at St.
Catherine's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and
8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Gary Lyle Foster 1942-2000
Gary Lyle Foster, 57, died April 16, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born July 6, 1942, at Great Bend, the son
of Lyle T. and Hazel A. Michael Foster. He married
Greta G. Heany Brantley
Aug. 27, 1983, at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was
owner/operator of A-1 Truck Sales and Repair and also farmed.
Foster was a member of First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge,
both of Great Bend; Isis Shrine of Salina, Vintage Wheel Antique Car Club
of Great Bend and Antique Tractor Association, was a Great Bend Township
board member, Great Bend Army Air Field Museum member, former 4-H member
and Holding Board member.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Dr. Scott Brantley of
Great Bend; three daughters, Debbie Herrman and Sherry Rein, both of Olathe
and Sherri Janousek of Great Bend; two sisters, Kathryn Coffman of Macomb,
Ill., and Sue Lewis of Ellinwood; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Revs. Dick Near
and Loyse Clay officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in
Great Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight and 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, all
at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend and from noon until service
time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Gary Foster
Barton County Future Farmers of America Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care
of the funeral home.

Wayne B. Fehrenbacher 1921-2000
ST. JOHN - Wayne B. Fehrenbacher, 79, died April 15 at Atchison Hospital in
Atchison. He was born Feb. 25, 1921, at rural St. John, the son of George
J. and Florence Fehrenbacher. He married
Betty L. Richardson Oct. 31, 1941,
at St. John. She died Jan. 27. A resident of Atchison, coming from
Stafford, Macksville, St. John and Seward, he had been an operator for
Stafford County Maintenance Department, had worked at the power plant in
St. John and the salt mines in Hutchinson, was dreyman for Santa Fe
Railroad, was owner/operator of Wayne's Bicycle Shop in St. John and was
known as the Onion King of Stafford County.
Fehrenbacher was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin John Fehrenbacher of Topeka, Lawrence
Daniel Fehrenbacher of Cleveland, Ohio, and Joseph R. Fehrenbacher of
Wichita; three daughters, Helen Skidmore and Anna Lucido, both of Atchison,
and Teresa Whiting of Great Bend; one brother, Howard Fehrenbacher of
Kinsley; one sister, Louise Harter of St. John; 23 grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 6:30 tonight at Minnis Chapel in St. John. Funeral will
be at the church with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at
St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Seward. Friends may call until 6:30 tonight
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Medicalodge
Gazeebo Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Irma E. Debes 1908-2000
ODIN - Irma E. Debes, 92, died April 13 at Integrated Health Services of
Woodhaven in Ellinwood. Funeral arrangements and survivors will be
announced later by Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Mary Kay Weaver 1917-2000
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mary Kay Weaver, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., died April
11 at Northwest Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 20, 1917, at Logan, the
daughter of C.L. and Irma Dougherty Cushing. She married
W. Hal Weaver. He
died Jan. 15. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and received
her B.A. degree in education from Iowa University. She was a homemaker and
a school teacher, having taught at Coffeyville High School in Coffeyville.
A longtime resident of Great Bend, she retired with her husband to Tucson,
Ariz., before moving to Fayetteville in 1997.
Mrs. Weaver was a member of DU Chapter of PEO in Great Bend, Gamma Phi Beta
Sorority at Iowa University, and was an Episcopalian.
Survivors include one son, Hal Weaver of Bonita, Ariz.; one daughter,
Deborah Meisch of Fayetteville; one brother, Ned Cushing of Lawrence; three
grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in
Fayetteville with the Rev. Lowell E. Grisham officiating. Visitation will
be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. Memorials are
suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 15825 Shady Grove Rd.,
Suite 140, Rockville, MD 20855.
