Arthur 'Art' Caesar Erb 1917-2000
QUINTER - Arthur "Art" Caesar Erb, 82, died March 2 at Gove County Medical
Center. He was born June 13, 1917, on his family farm in Rush County, the
son of Herman and Mary Sell Erb. He was a 1935 graduate of Bison Rural High
School in Bison. He married
Laverne Lewis in 1938. She died May 17, 1986.
He married
Freda Strong Leonard July 3, 1991, at Salina. A resident of
Quinter since 1987, coming from Timken, he was a carpenter and construction
worker.
Erb was a member of United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge AF&AM 164,
both of Quinter.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two stepsons, Gordon G. Leonard of
Glen Haven, Colo., and Ronald R. Leonard of Fairfax Station, Va. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Erb and Irvin Erb.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Elin
Colglazier officiation. Masonic graveside rites will be at 4:30 p.m. at La
Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today and
9-11 a.m. Monday at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter. Memorials are
suggested to the church or Masonic Lodge AF&AM 164, both in care of the
funeral home.

Lorene A. Peterka 1942-2000
WILSON - Lorene A. Peterka, 57, died March 2 at Ellsworth County Medical
Center in Ellsworth. She was born Aug. 16, 1942, at Wilson, the daughter of
William and Annie B. Adcock Small. She married
Eugene Peterka in 1960 at
Wilson. A lifetime resident of Wilson, she was a homemaker and mail carrier.
Mrs. Peterka was a member of Wilson United Methodist Church in Wilson.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Kevin Peterka of Ocean
Side, Calif., and Thomas Peterka of Olathe; two daughters, Rhonda Widows of
Bunker Hill, and Sonya Peterka, of Creston, Iowa; one brother, Gillen Small
of Wilson; two sisters, Carol Ehrlich of Bunker Hill and Sharol Meyer of
Smith Center; her mother of Wilson; nine grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Vlcek.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with
the Rev. Tim Harlan officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the

Sophia Friebus Tittel 1890-2000
NESS CITY - Sophia Friebus Tittel, 110, died March 3 at Ness County Long
Term Care in Ness City. She was born Jan. 26, 1890, at Wilson, the daughter
of John and Anna Friebus. She married
John Tittel Dec. 18, 1916, at Bazine.
He died April 24, 1969. A resident of Ness County since 1916, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Tittel was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Ness City.
Survivors include one daughter, Regina Stoppel of Ness City; four sons, Al
Tittel of Great Bend, Werner "Vernie" Tittel of Hays, Theodore "Ted" Tittel
of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Carl Tittel of Gore, Okla.; 31 grandchildren; 41
great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; numerous
stepgrandchildren; and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by three sons, Otto Tittel, Edward Tittel and Gerhardt Tittel; one
daughter, Betty Waterhouse; five brothers, William Friebus, Erich Friebus,
Theodore Friebus and Traugott Friebus; four sisters, Emma Homeier, Teresa
Galliardt, Margaret Tittel and Anna Friebus; two grandsons, Terry Tittel
and James Tittel; and one great-grandson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Intern Pastor
Yvonne Marshall officiating. Burial will be at Ness City cemetery in Ness
City. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Monday at Fitzgerald
Funeral Home in Ness City and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the

Fern Lucille Lohrey 1920-2000
LA CROSSE - Fern Lucille Lohrey, 79, died Feb. 28 at Hays Medical Center,
St. Anthony Campus in Hays. She was born Oct. 10, 1920, on a farm west of
Rush Center, the daughter of Jade and Myrtle M. Albright West. She married
Fred "Fritz" Lohrey April 23, 1946, in La Crosse. A lifetime resident of
Rush County, she was a homemaker, helped her husband farm, worked as an
office clerk at Rush County Livestock Sale Barn and worked at C.O. Mammels
Grocery Store in La Crosse before retiring.
Mrs. Lohrey was a member of United Methodist Church, Women's Organization
and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, all of La Crosse.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Fred Lee Lohrey of La
Crosse and Gary Lohrey of Bison; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one brother, Frank West; and four sisters, Edna Liggett, Elma
Sackrider, Elsie Fischer and Grace Reifschneider.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Kathy
Bannister officiating. Graveside service will follow at La Crosse City
Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight at Janousek

Amanda JoAnn Chrisman 1979-2000
WOODWARD, Okla. - Amanda JoAnn Chrisman, 21, died Feb. 29 at Woodward
Hospital and Health Center in Woodward. She was born Jan. 25, 1979, in
Provo, Utah, the daughter of Lawrence and Dixie Jasperson Chrisman. She
attended Great Bend Junior High and High School and was a 1997 graduate of
Woodward High School. A resident of Woodward, she worked for Wal-Mart.
Survivors include her parents of Woodward; one brother, Eli Chrisman of
Woodward; and her grandmothers, Ruth Jasperson and Lorna Chrisman, both of
Provo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eric Chrisman, and both
grandfathers.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home Chapel in
Woodward with the Rev. Lesly Broadbent officiating. Burial will follow at
Elmwood cemetery in Woodward.

Loris E. Erbes 1918-2000
LA CROSSE - Loris E. Erbes, 81, died March 1 at Hays Medical Center,
Hadley Campus in Hays. He was born Oct. 13, 1918, at rural Bison, the son
of Jacob and Mary Krug Erbes. He married
Lavina L. Kleweno Nov. 29, 1939,
at La Crosse. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer and
stockman and had owned Erbes and Son Meat Market in La Crosse from 1939, to
1953.
Erbes was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau Kansas
Livestock Association, La Crosse City Planning Commission and La Crosse
Rural High School Board from 1958 to 1965.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Lawrence Erbes of La
Crosse; two daughters, Lucinda Lazarus of Kansas City, Mo., and Rita
Copenhafer of Mendon, Mich.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by four sisters, Irene Maggio, Esther Daniels, Alma Farris and Rose
Kraisinger.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will follow at
the La Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m.
today, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and prior to service time Saturday at

Rose Mary Urban 1911-2000
LA CROSSE - Rose Mary Urban, 88, died March 2 at Rush County Memorial
Hospital, Long Term Care, in La Crosse. She was born Sept. 7, 1911, at
Munjor, the daughter of Sebastian and Mary Pfannestiel Leiker. She married
Wendelin Urban in November 1929, at Loretto. He preceded her in death. A
longtime resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Norbert Urban and Justin Urban, both of La
Crosse; six daughters, Alice Heeps of Webster, Mass., Bernita Clair of
Ellinwood, Edna Giebler of Hays, Luceda Hager of Geneseo, Doris Armstrong
of Springfield, Mo., and Charlene Kreutzer of Albert.
Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in
La Crosse. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev.
Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will follow at La Crosse City Cemetery
in La Crosse.

Lewis Martin Whithorn 1926-2000
Lewis Martin Whithorn, 73, of Great Bend died Feb. 28 at his home. He was
born May 20, 1926, at Ness County, the son of Virgil Martin and Almeada
Wallace Whithorn. He married
Roberta M. Houston Nov. 26, 1947, at
Hutchinson. A resident of Great Bend since 1948, coming from Hutchinson, he
was a master technician for Parish Motor Company and was a coach driver for
VIP Charters.
Whithorn was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion
Argonne Post 180 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111. He was a U.S.
Marine veteran having served with the 4th Marine Division during World War
II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Michael Lewis Whithorn
and Jeffrey Dana Whithorn, both of Great Bend; three brothers, Howard
Whithorn of Hoisington, Lee Whithorn and Warren Whithorn, both of
Hutchinson; three sisters, Alice Lightner and Evelyn Hendershot, both of
Hutchinson, and Velma Miller of Flint, Mich.; and five grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Mackey.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend with the Rev. Dick Near officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m.
Thursday with full military honors at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Argonne
Post 180 or donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Martha A. Noland 1912-2000
SABETHA - Martha A. Noland, 87, died Feb. 27 at St. Francis Hospital in
Topeka. She was born Oct. 8, 1912, at Sedan, the daughter of Harry and
Della Drake Shreve. She married
Kenneth Noland in 1930 at Wichita. He
preceded her in death. A resident of Sabetha since 1988, coming from
Wilson, she was owner and operator of Valetore Cleaners for 50 years.
Mrs. Noland was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Hypatia Club,
both of Wilson.
Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine Kellenberger of Sabetha; six
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one daughter, Nanette Noland; and two sisters.
Graveside service will be at 2 pm. Thursday at Wilson City cemetery in
Wilson with the Rev. Tim Harlan officiating. Memorials are suggested to
United Christian Women of Wilson, in care of Foster Mortuary Inc. of Wilson.
