Laurence D. 'Larry' Rous 1922-2000
HAYS - Laurence D. "Larry" Rous, 77, died Feb. 13 at Hays Medical Center, Hadley Campus in Hays. He was born April 10, 1922, at Holyrood, the son of Joseph and Mary Lanzel Rous. He married
Mardella "Mickey" Wiese Aug. 1, 1944, at Downs. A resident of Hays, he was a farmer and rancher at Downs, a city employee and fireman at Osborne, had worked at Hickey's Sheet Metal in Great Bend and was a resident manager at Epworth Towers in Hays.
Rous was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Ronald Rous of Downs, Laryl Rous of Hays and Daryl Rous of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Debra Vranekovic of Parsons; one brother, Robert Rous of Salina; two sisters, Mary Taylor of Waldo and Loretta Handlin of Newton, N.C.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Rous.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays with the Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial will be at Mount Allen cemetery in Hays with military services by VFW of Hays. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Ellis County, in care of the funeral home.

Patricia Ann 'Pat' Spacil 1942-2000
ELLINWOOD - Patricia Ann "Pat" Spacil, 57, died Feb. 14 at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City. She was born March 17, 1942, at Lincoln, the daughter of Glenn and Pauline Pinnick Lewick. She married
Raymond Spacil Jan. 21, 1984, at Ellinwood. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. A longtime resident of Ellinwood, she was a CNA, also working in housekeeping and laundry, all at Integrated Health Services, Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Michelle Niewenhuis of Barstow, Calif., and Tara Nicole Stickley of Great Bend; two stepsons, Michael Spacil and Steven Spacil, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Melanie Rehmert of Dodge City; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jackie Suzanne Branson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church of Ellinwood with the Rev. Jim Newkirk officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Kimple Inc. Funeral Home in Ellinwood.

Cleveland Burkhead 1921-2000
WILSON - Cleveland Burkhead, 78, died Feb. 14 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. He was born Dec. 27, 1921, at Utica, the son of Morris and Leota McKinley Burkhead. He married
Ethel Stillwell Dec. 26, 1954, at Ellsworth. She died in 1992. A resident of Wilson for most of his life, he was a laborer.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Burkhead and Jim Burkhead, both of Wilson, and Tim Burkhead of Lorraine; two daughters, Caroline Stark of Rogers, Ark., and Doris Barber of Herington; two brothers, Lauron Burkhead of Salina and Cloyd Burkhead of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Clodagh Lee of Raleigh, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Teddy Burkhead; and an infant granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with the Rev. Tim Harlan officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City cemetery in Wilson. Chester Eugene Irvin 1921-2000
ALEXANDER - Chester Eugene Irvin, 78, died Feb. 14 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born June 11, 1921, at Alexander, the son of Chess and Maggie Hayes Irvin. He married
Ruthetta R. "Ruth" Brack July 24, 1946, at Alexander. A lifetime resident of Alexander, he was a farmer, stockman and rural mail carrier.
Irvin was a member of United Methodist Church of Alexander, AF-AM Masonic Lodge 58, Starlite Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star 84 and American Legion Post 59, all in McCracken, Isis Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies, both of Salina, and Fort Hays Shrine Club in Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Dennis W. Irvin of Manhattan, Galen R. Irvin of Ottawa, Don L. Irvin and Kellye L. Irvin, both of McCracken; one sister, Eunice North of McCracken; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. Glenn and Barbara Patterson officiating. Burial will be at McCracken cemetery in McCracken with military graveside rites by McCracken American Legion Post 59 and Masonic service by McCracken Lodge 58, by Dennis W. Irvin, acting master. Evelyn E. Bayless 1918-2000
Evelyn E. Bayless, 82, died Feb. 13 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 3, 1918, at rural Great Bend, the daughter of Grover C. and Iris Belle Puckett McClain. She married
Roy S. Bayless Jr. Sept. 10, 1938, at Great Bend. He died March 21, 1991. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker and co-owner of Bayless Dry Cleaners.
Mrs. Bayless was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was in the church choir and Rebecca Circle and was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Soroptimist Club, all in Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Bayless and David Bayless, both of Great Bend, and Stephen Bayless of Aglena, Mont.; two daughters, Jane Goodwin and Barbara Achatz, both of Great Bend; three brothers, Leroy McClain and Galen McClain, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack McClain of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; one sister, Shirley Rich of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend.

Grace P. Baxter 1917-2000
RADIUM - Grace P. Baxter, 82, died Feb. 13 at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson.
She was born May 9, 1917, at Stafford County, the daughter of John William and Myrtle Eunice Karnes Phillips. She married
Berwyn N. Baxter Aug. 14, 1940, at Hutchinson. He died Feb. 3, 1993. A resident of Stafford and Reno Counties, she was a retired retail clerk having worked for House of Fabrics, Skaggs, Anthony's and Wiley's, all in Hutchinson.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Hutchinson, and past member of Ash Valley Grange in Larned.
Survivors include one daughter, Eunice E. Fallis of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Phillips; and one sister, Alice Mosher.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pawnee Rock cemetery in Pawnee Rock with the Rev. Clyde Fletchall officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Anna Eulala Burris 1907-2000
ARKANSAS CITY - Anna Eulala Burris, 92, died Feb. 13 at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. She was born Nov. 27, 1907, in Taylorville, Ill., the daughter of Don and Druscilla Oller. She married
Leon Roy Burris July 1, 1937, at Claflin. She was a graduate of Ontonangon, Mich., high school. A resident of Arkansas City since 1977, coming from Great Bend and Wichita, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Great Bend during World War II, at American Soil Conservation Service for 10 years and for the advertising departments of KVGB Radio and KCKT-TV in Great Bend.
Mrs. Burris was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Daniels of Ontonangon; two brothers; and one sister.
Private inurnment will be held at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. There will be no visitation as the body was cremated. Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Albert Kisner 1920-2000
Raymond Albert Kisner, 79, died Feb. 14 at Great Bend. He was born Sept. 23, 1920, at Pfeifer, the son of Joseph and Anna Marie Burgardt Kisner. He married
Rose Marie Agnes Gibler Sept. 18, 1947, at Ellis. He attended St. Johns Military Academy at Hays. A resident of Great Bend since 1974, coming from Hoisington, he was a self-employed farmer, roughneck driller in the oil fields and custodian at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Park West.
Kisner was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 5th Infantry Regiment, 71st Division, during World War II. He received the American Theater Ribbon and EAMET Ribbon.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Deon Lee Kisner of Wichita, Ronald Phillip Kisner of Atwood and Lavern Ray Kisner of Copeland; one daughter, Sheila Rose Nuss of Great Bend; one sister, Helen Staub of Hoisington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, William Kisner, Joseph Kisner Jr., Alphonse Kisner and Fred Kisner; and two sisters, Coletta Jacobs and Mary Herrman.
Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Johns cemetery in Hoisington with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army, out of Fort Riley. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to vigil time Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimers Association or American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Wilhelmina Louise 'Wilma' Seifreid 1914-2000
Wilhelmina Louise "Wilma" Seifreid, 85, died Feb. 13 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born June 6, 1914, at Huntsville, the daughter of Charles A. and Amelia B. Kuehn Ankerholz.
She married
George W. Seifreid July 2, 1936, at Hutchinson. He died Aug. 10, 1986. A resident of Great Bend since 1938, coming from Hutchinson, she had been an insurance clerk for Dr. Replogle and a bookkeeper for Bemis Tractor.
Mrs. Seifreid was a member of First Christian Church, charter member and past president of Eagles Auxiliary 646, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3111 and AARP.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Ruth S. Lehr of Lakewood, Colo., and Patricia R. Potter of Littleton, Colo.; five step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Willis C. Ankerholz; and one sister, Dorothy Ford.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday, at the funeral home. PAWNEE ROCK - Janet Bowman, 55, died March 29 at her home. She was born
Sept. 15, 1944, at Great Bend, the daughter of Dean and Nancye Converse
Unruh. She married
Joseph M. Bowman Aug. 22, 1963, at Macksville. A
lifetime resident of Pawnee Rock, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bowman was a lifetime member of Pawnee Rock Christian Church and
Christian Women's Fellowship, both of Pawnee Rock.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Daniel J. Bowman of
Larned; one daughter, Sharynn K. Bowman of Garden City; three brothers,
James R. Unruh of Pawnee Rock, William E. Unruh, Macksville and George M.
Unruh, St. John; and one sister, Susan G. Ellis, Lafayette, La.
