Rance Kevin Amerine
A Celebration of Life service for Rance Kevin Amerine, 60, Perry, KS will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2010 at Underwood Cemetery, rural Perry, KS. A reception will follow at Buck Creek School, one mile east of the cemetery. He died Friday, October 7, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 6, 1950, in Lawrence, the son of Carl and Norraine M. Roll Amerine.
Mr. Amerine graduated from Lawrence High School in 1968. He also attended Barton County Community College.
He most recently held a variety of retail sales positions, worked on the family farm and he had also worked for Universal Insurance Company.
He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Quails Unlimited.
Rance enjoyed fishing, hunting, chess and poker and was an avid reader, and loved watching movies.
Survivors include; his mother, Norraine, Perry, KS; two brothers, Ronald L. Amerine, Belleview, FL, and Michael R. Amerine, Lawrence, KS; one sister, Carla, and husband, Murl Westheffer, Lawrence, KS; four nephews, Murl Jr., Michael, Chase, and Brett.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Lung Association or charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Gloria B. Madere
A memorial visitation for Gloria B. Madere, 78, Lawrence, KS, will be from 10 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. She died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar, Lawrence, KS.
She was born on October 8, 1931 in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Dennis and Genevieve (Sevin) Bourgeois.
Mrs. Madere moved to Lawrence five years ago from Waveland, MS after hurricane Katrina.
She graduated from St. Stephens High School in New Orleans, LA and attended Southern Mississippi University for two years.
She was a Senior Services County Coordinator in Hancock County, MS for many years.
Mrs. Madere was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence and was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willow Springs, MO and St. Francis Catholic Church in Metairie, LA and she was also a member of the Alter Society. She was a member of the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, a homemaker, and a seamstress for Mardi Gras Krewes.
Survivors include: two daughters, Frances Marie Helmers, and husband, John, Willow Springs, MO, and Catherine Reid, and husband, Edward, Lawrence, KS; one son, John Adam Lanclos and his wife, Lorraine, Waveland, MS; two sisters, Audrey McDaniel and Valerie Zehender, both of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Lanclos, Sr., and later Eldridge “Butz” Madere; and one son, Andrew Lanclos, Jr. in 1998.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Relay for Life which may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Nadine Criqui
The funeral service for Nadine Criqui, 84, Lawrence, KS will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Lyndon cemetery in Lyndon, KS. She died on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born on November 10, 1925 in Lyndon, KS, the daughter of Lyall and Martha Charlotte “Lottie” (Schoepflin) Swisher.
Mrs. Criqui graduated from Lyndon High School in 1943. After graduation, she passed the state examination and was one of the last to receive a Normal Training Certificate, which qualified her to teach in the elementary schools of Kansas. She taught at Highland, Richview, and Wolf rural schools in Osage County, KS; Chamness, a rural school near Emporia, KS, and introduced music at Grainfield Grade School in Gove County, KS.
She retired in 1987 after having worked twenty one years in quality control at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence.
Mrs. Criqui was active in 4-H and was a Girl Scout leader. She belonged to the Lawrence First United Methodist Church, Kaw Valley Corral of Westerners, Lawrence Knife and Fork Club, American Association of Retired Persons, and the Williams Educational Fund. She was an active member of the Lawrence Pilot Club and served as its president in 1996. She joined Kappa Kappa Iota in 1958 and held most of its offices and was president many times.
During the war, Nadine rode on a troop train from Kansas City to San Diego for her wedding. She married
Orvel A. Criqui on June 3, 1944 in San Diego, CA. They lived in Lawrence since 1956. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2008.
Survivors include one son, Eugene “Anthony “ and wife, Lisa Criqui, of North Vancouver, British Columbia, one daughter, Kathleen Marie, and husband, James Golden, of Lancaster, CA, four grandchildren: Michael, Christina, Andrew, and Timothy Golden and five great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Pilot Club or the First United Methodist Church, Lawrence and sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family will greet friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Lawrence K. Hunsaker
1931 - 2009
Funeral services for Lawrence K. Hunsaker, 76, Elwood, were Wednesday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto. Graveside services were at Wellsville Cemetery.
Mr. Hunsaker died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009.
He was born March 13, 1931, in Centerville, the son of Kenneth and Hazel Hunsaker.
Mr. Hunsaker lived in Eudora for 45 years. He worked at KP&L for 40 years and retired in 1992.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling in his camper and fishing.
He married
JoAnn Tesch on May 23, 1954. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Paula, Elwood, and Gene, Kincaid; seven grandchildren, Chad and Diane Hunsaker, Shawn and Tammy Jonas, Ryan Dancer, and Sissy and John Conrad; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy and wife Sheila, Olathe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

M. Ruth Sigman
1915 - 2008
BASEHOR — Funeral services for M. Ruth Sigman, 93, De Soto, were. Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor. Burial followed in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Mrs. Sigman died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1915, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of Michael and Mary Wenzel Kelly.
Mrs. Sigman was a beautician for 73 years and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee.
She married
Jack Emmett Sigman on July 19, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1974.
Survivors include a son, John Sigman and wife Sharon, Shawnee; a daughter, Kathleen Garvin and husband Larry, Kennewick, Wash.; a sister, Cecilia McDermott, Shawnee; three grandchildren, Shawn Sigman, Cynthia Sigman and David Anderson; and two great-granddaughters, Katie and Breanna Sigman.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

James S. Reese
1916 - 2008
Funeral services for John S. Reese, 92, Eudora, were Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial with Masonic services will follow at Eudora City Cemetery.
Mr. Reese died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at his home in Eudora.
He was born Nov. 2, 1916, in New York City, the son of Orville and Susan Dunbar Reese. He was raised in Colorado Springs and moved to the Eudora area in 1951.
Mr. Reese served in the U.S. Navy and was with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He worked for Hercules for many years, retiring in 1972. After his retirement, he opened Eudora Auto Trim and operated it for many years.
Mr. Reese was a member of the Eudora Masonic Lodge and had held every office. He received his 50-year Masonic pin a few years ago.
He married
Ruth J. Hall on June 5, 1948, in Colorado Springs. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Pam Pineda, Lawrence, and Jane Eisele, Victoria, Texas; and a brother, Jay Reese, Branson, Mo.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home.
Cathleen M. Mullen
1956 - 2008
Kansas City, Kan. - Funeral Mass for Cathleen M. Mullen, 52, of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Ms. Mullen died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008.
She was born Oct. 25, 1956, in Cincinnati, the daughter of William J. and June E. Ishmael Mullen. She attended St. Joseph High School and Shawnee Mission Northwest, from which she graduated. She attended Kansas University.
Ms. Mullen worked for Sprint and AT&T for many years in the Kansas City area.
A brother, Kevin Mullen, died earlier.
Survivors include her mother, June Mullen, Shawnee; a brother, James Mullen, De Soto; three sisters, Pat McPherson, Topeka, Kan., Barbara Mullen, Destin, Fla., and Margaret Mullen, Prairie Village.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
