Donna Hill Mueller
Donna Hill Mueller, 76, formerly of Winfield, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. A family service has already taken place in Atlanta, Ga. Her remains have been returned to Ann Arbor, Mich., for final resting. She was born Donna June Hill, of Wellington, Kan., on Sept. 1, 1931, to Francis and Marshall Hill. Survivors include Phyllis and Raymond Potter, of Winfield, Anne and Patrick Brooks, of Atlanta Ga., Mari Kelley, of Houston, Texas, Gene and Nancy Mueller, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and five grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of the GA Cremation Society.
Harold L. (Silver) Lindly
Harold L. (Silver) Lindly, 77, Winfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Born March 6, 1930, in Elk Falls, Kan., he was the son of lee and Opal (Olsen) Lindly. He owned and operated Lindly TV and Appliance until his retirement in 2000. Survivors include his sons, George Lindly and Ron, both of Winfield; daughter, Sharon White, Oxford; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Hoover.
A memorial has been established for Winfield Elks Lodge No. 732, 1020 Manning, Winfield, KS 67156. Arrangements are under the direction of the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
John Edward Gamsjager
John Edward Gamsjager, 70, lifelong Newkirk resident, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at his home. A memorial service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newkirk with the Rev. Ernest Miller officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. At his request, he was cremated. He was born July 25, 1937, in Winfield, the son of Charles Homer and Clara Louise (Barre) Gamsjager. He carried on the family dairy farm operation until 1959. He remained in agriculture, farming for a number of years, first working for himself, and later for others. He had also been employed by a pipeline and tank company. Survivors include one brother, David Gamsjager, of Yukon, Okla.; and three sisters, Margaret "Maggie" Olsen, of Giddings, Texas, Mary McMahon, of Yukon, and Nancy Oehrle, of Baton Rouge, La. He was preceded in death by one son, John Charles Gamsjager; his parents; a brother, Charles, Gamsjager Jr.
A memorial fund has been established with the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468. Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller-Stahl Funeral Service, Newkirk.
Dianna Jeanne Lloyd
Dianna Jeanne Lloyd, 62, Lawton, Okla., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, in Marlow, Okla. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Langley, retired United Methodist pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 9 p.m. today and Thursday. Dianna Jeanne was born on June 29, 1945, in Newkirk, to Alvin Ketchum and Evelyn Adeline (Bryson) Wren. She was employed as a teacher for more than 30 years. She taught at every grade level from pre-kindergarten through freshman composition in college. She taught in Stillwater, Pawnee, and Lawton where she taught at Lawton High School, the Juvenile Detention Center, Roadback's Pathway Halfway House for Boys, Hillcrest Hospital, the STAR Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center, and Central Middle School, where she taught language arts and served as the school's Language Arts Department chairperson. Survivors include her son, Jason Lloyd, of Lawton, Okla.; two daughters, Jannet Burk, of Muskogee, Okla., and Cathi Goguen, of Lexington Park, Md.; a sister, Joyce Peters, of Lawton, Okla.; a brother, Ken Wren, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and aunts and uncles.

Carol Deane Lammon
Carol Deane Lammon, 73, Wichita, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Wichita Specialty Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery
in Winfield. Born July 27, 1934, in Ponca City, she was the daughter of James Edward and Coral (Sidler) Hayes. She was employed at Wesley and St. Joseph Hospitals in Wichita and later at Singing River Hospital, as a unit clerk, in Pascagoula, Miss. Survivors include her sons, Bill Perry, Wichita; Bobby Bishop, California; Erik Day, Wichita; daughter, Cynthia Cole, Wichita; sister, Barbara Young, Pascagoula, Miss.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Leota M. Cummings
Leota M. Cummings, 80, Winfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, due to a head wound. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service, Winfield. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.

Timothy Reichenberger
Timothy Reichenberger, 74, of Wellington, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at the Riverview Manor & Village in Oxford. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Hawks Funeral Home Chapel with Everett Reedy, officiating. Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m. in the Andale Cemetery
in Andale. A mass of memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington, with Father Andrew Seiler officiating. Cremation has been effected. Timothy was born May 18, 1933, in Andale, Kan., the son of Timothy Victor and Violet Stockman Reichenberger. He was an aircraft mechanic for over 56 years. He worked at Crystal Geyser in Calistoga, Calif. Survivors include his wife Emiko (Morio) Reichenberger, of Wellington; son, Timothy V. Reichenberger, of Wellington; daughter, Teri Camp, of Ohio; brothers, Marc Reichenberger, of Fair Oaks, Calif., Gary Reichenberger, of Reno, Nev., John Reichenberger, of Wichita, and Gerald Reichenberger, of Wichita; sister, Beverly Tackett, of Wellington; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Reichenberger.

David G. Norton
David G. Norton, 43, Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 22, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment with military honors will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery
in Winfield. David was born July 11, 1963, in Ponca City, to Jerry W. and Mary (Capehart) Norton. He was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1981. Following graduation, David enlisted in the United States Army where he served until 1984, stationed in Germany. In 1986, he enlisted for a second tour and served during Desert Storm. On July 3, 1987, he married Sigrid Schreiber in Fuerth, Germany. To this union were born two sons, Julian and Florian. The couple returned to Winfield where David was employed as a groundskeeper at Southwestern College. They later divorced, and David moved to Wichita where he was employed at several banks as a computer technician. In 2004, David began employment at Via Christi Regional Medical Center as a psychiatric aide in the psychiatric department. On June 19, 2005 he married Juanita Oliver. The couple later divorced. David was currently attending Wichita State University. Survivors include his sons, Julian Norton and Florian Norton, both of Arkansas City; his father, Jerry Norton, and wife, Debbie, Winfield; his mother, Mary Cain, and husband, Jim, Valley Center; sisters, Cindy Derifield, and husband, Harlan, Wichita, and Amanda Lauffer, and husband, Mike, Winfield; three nieces and two nephews; and other extended family members.
A memorial has been established for an education fund for David's sons, Julian and Florian. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.
Brian Keith Bowling
Brian Keith Bowling, 44, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at his home in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be held at a later date. Cremation has been effected. Born Jan. 8, 1963, in Wichita, he was the son of Ernest and Loritta (Robinson) Bowling. He grew up in Waldron, Kan. He had lived in Topeka and Winfield before coming to Arkansas City. Survivors include his mother, Loritta Bowling, Arkansas City; sisters, Jo Tanner, High Pointe, N.C., Teresa Nelson, Arkansas City, Ernita Hall, Fort Scott, Kan.; brother, Bruce Bowling, Manchester, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Helen Louise Barton
Funeral services for Helen Louise Barton, 80, Yuma, Ariz., who did Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, were conducted at 10 a.m Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Wayne Robbins, Church of Christ, officiated. Interment was in Parker Cemetery. Music was by Lloyd Koch. Honorary Casket bearers were D.L. Givens, Kirk Lewis, Fred Case, Larry Pike, Kyle Lewis and Marco Weston.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
James W. Barker
Graveside services for James W. Barker, 73, Arkansas City, who died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, in the Maple City Cemetery. Pastor Robert L. Ferris, First Christian Church, Newkirk, officiated. Military honors were by Spencer-Ralston VFW Post No. 1254, with Commander Clyde H. Hatcher and Chaplain Jerry E. Fry. Color guard was Jimmy Simpson. Color bearer was David Pond. Firing squad with Commander Gilbert W. Mills was Joe E. Harris, Darrell Rolland, Randy Walker, Gary Johnson and Lee Bartlett. Bugler was Alyce M. Harris. Casket bearers were Blane Barker, David Baird, James Decker, Darren Swopes, Collin Barker, Jason Decker, Monte Swopes and Stuart Osborn. Honorary casket bearers were Justin Decker, Garrett Swopes, Amanda Swopes, Joshua Baird, Tori Anstine, Kelsey Baird and Brittany Swopes.

Carlos Rolly Bazil
Carlos Rolly Bazil, 77, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, in the Parker Cemetery. Chaplain Ron Sloan will officiate. Carlos was born in Ark City April 3, 1929, to Jasper and Myrtle (Ramy) Bazil. He was reared and educated in Ark City. Early in 1951, Carlos joined the Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict earning a purple heart. Carlos was later honorably discharged late in 1952. On June 19, 1970, he married Barbara Ann Hagen. The couple made their home in Ark City. Carlos worked for Good Year as a maintenance man for 30 plus years. After that he worked as a custodian for USD-470 for 17 years. Carlos was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors include two sons, Russell Bazil and his wife, Terri, of Winfield; Mark Bazil and his wife, Tammie, of Newkirk; three daughters, Carla Behrens and her husband, Danny, of Mankato, Minn., Miranda Whittaker and Audra Stephens, both of Newkirk; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; two brothers; one sister; and a grandson.

Brenna Marie Lacer
Brenna Marie Lacer, 43, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Chapel at Cottonwood Falls, Kan. Interment will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery
just west of Cottonwood Falls. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time on Monday. Born Nov. 17, 1963, in Emporia, she was the daughter of Wayne L. and Loretta Kay McFarland (Lacer-Freeman). She attended and received an associate degree from Cowley County Community College. She worked for an on-line communications company; at Phoebe's Cafe and Cakes; and operated a nail salon. Survivors include her mother of Emporia; brother, Matthew L. Freeman, Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Tina Marie Lacer and Phoebe Faye Hensley, Emporia; her adoptive father, Alvin J. Freeman, of Clay Center. She was preceded in death by her father.

James Paul Bruner
James Paul Bruner, 77, of Winfield, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 at Wesley Medical Center following a period of illness. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at Highland Cemetery
in Winfield. The Rev. Kevin Hopkins of Grace United Methodist Church, Winfield, will officiate. Born Dec. 14, 1929, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Acie and Emma Randall Bruner. He attended Arkansas City schools and was a member of the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He retired, after 26 years, from General Electric in 1992. On Sept. 25, 1952, he married Mable Boomershine in Bentonville, Ark., and the couple made their home in Winfield. He is survived by his wife, of the home; two daughters, Paula Bruner, of the home, and Debbie McAfee and husband, Rick, of Winfield; one son, Mark Bruner and wife, Carolyn, of Winfield; one sister, Evelie Price, of Springdale, Ark.; one brother, J.C. Bruner, of Arkansas City; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Winfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta.
Betty Ruth Barton
Graveside services and Interment for Betty Ruth Barton, 74, of Arkansas City, who died Jan. 17, 2007, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City. Pastor Mark Fry officiated.

Samuel J. Stafford
Samuel J. Stafford, 86, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at the Bentonville Manor Nursing Home in Bentonville, Ark. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery
in Geuda Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday, 9 a.m. until Noon. A memorial has been established with the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Contributions may be left at the funeral home. Sam was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Jefferson Columbus and Alice Gates Stafford. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Sam moved to Wichita in the 1950s and worked at Cargill for many years until his retirement. He moved to Arkansas City in 1980 where he attended Trinity Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion. On Dec. 3, 1998, Sam married Velma S. Sammis Dickson and the couple moved to Arkansas in September, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Velma, of Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters, Valeria Vann, of Katy, Texas and Sammie Lee Hyland, of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Betty Bennett, of Valley Center, Kan.; two step-sons, Dr. Jerry L. Dickson, of Bella Vista, Ark. and Don Dickson, of Big Sandy, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Stafford.
