Beatrice M. (Bea) Sharp, 92, Eldon, MO (formerly of Oskaloosa, KS) died Saturday, September 13, 2008 in Lake Ozark, MO.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS. Visitation 1 hour before service.
Bea was born January 7, 1916 in Liberal, KS, the daughter of Charles and Opal (Gillespie) Maxwell. She had worked for Midland Industries, Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur in 1990; daughter, Inez Slaven in 2008; and great-grandson, Craig Sharp in 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, James W. Sharp, Eldon, MO and Donald H. Sharp, Leavenworth, KS; two daughters, Betty Thompson, Blue Springs, MO and June Fleming, Lathrop, MO; 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 47 great great-grandchildren.
D. J. Burns
D. J. Burns, 59, Tonganoxie, KS, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS. The family will receive friends 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Quisenberry Chapel, Tonganoxie.
D.J. was born July 30, 1949 in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of Henry and Irma Jean (Smith) Johnson. She worked as administrative assistant for Wyandotte County District Court, part time Tonganoxie Police officer and as dispatcher for Leavenworth County Sheriff Department. She was a member of Jarbalo United Methodist Church, an auxiliary member of Tonganoxie V.F.W Post # 9271 and American Legion Post # 23, Leavenworth County Veteran’s Day Parade committee and Tonganoxie F.F.A. Alumni. On February 22, 1992, she was united in marriage to Larry Burns in Leavenworth, KS.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Burns, of the home; two sons, Jason (Nicki) Johnson, Emporia, KS and David (Amanda) Rupp, Ft. Campbell, KY; three daughters, Stacy (Ryan) Lister, Baldwin City, KS, Jessica (David) Karten, Perry, KS and Meghan (Jay) Powell, Tonganoxie, KS; four brothers, Jim (Nancy) Johnson, Honolulu, HI, Gene (Dorothy) Johnson, Port Orchard, WA, Gary (Veronica) Johnson, Leavenworth, KS and Dale Johnson, Leavenworth; sister, Wanda Johnson, Ft. Collins, CO; 5 grandchildren and a large extended family.
Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or National Kidney Foundation.
Connie Marie Barnett
Connie Marie Barnett, 53, Tonganoxie, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.
Funeral will be 10 am Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Jarbalo United Methodist Church, Jarbalo, KS, burial will follow in Fall Creek Cemetery, Jarbalo. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
Connie was born September 20, 1954 the daughter of Jesse and Thamar (Rose) Barnett, in Excelsior Springs, MO. She served in the US Air Force from 1973-1979 and was a homemaker. Connie was a member of the Jarbalo United Methodist Women, Jarbalo Do Nothing Club, Jarbalo Red Hat Society, Seven Sisters Quilting Club, Wegener’s Gramulomatosis Support Group of Kansas City Area, and worked as a volunteer for the Good Shepherd Thrift Store, Tonganoxie.
Connie is survived by one son, Eric Nicholas Barnett, McLouth, KS; her mother, Thamar Barnett, Jarbalo; two brothers, Jesse O. Barnett Jr. (Tim Davis) Shawnee, KS, Kipp Barnett, Winchester, KS; six sisters, Gail R Fitzwater (Steve) Shawnee, KS, Jane Turner (Dave, Sr.), Jarbalo, Kathy Stimac, Tonganoxie, Tammy R Mooberry, Leavenworth, KS, Lynn A Heskett (Paul), Moran, KS, and Julia D Carter, Iola, KS.

Jan Elise Theno, 66, Tonganoxie, KS died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at her home.
A Funeral Mass will be said 10 am Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be said at 8 pm.
Mrs. Theno was born March 2, 1942 in Paris, TX, the daughter of Harold and Marie (Smith) Thornburgh. She was a homemaker and worked in the clerical department of KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Theno-Ditty in 1997.
Survivors include her son, Scott Theno, Tonganoxie, KS; two daughters, Brenda Willis and Lisa Tanking, both of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Patsy Jenkins, Lee’s Summit, MO and Sue Haupt, Ft. Worth, TX; and 13 grandchildren.

Marjorie Louise Freeman, 72, Tonganoxie, KS died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
Graveside services will be 10 am Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS.
Mrs. Freeman was born January 6, 1936 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Elza and Doris (Smith) Marvin. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of First Congregational Church, Tonganoxie, KS. Her husband, Lewis Dale Freeman and daughter, Joice Freeman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Cecil, Edwardsville, KS, Dale, Hertford, NC and Clifford, Seaside, OR; step-daughter, Nancy Drake, Wichita, KS; brother, Clarence Marvin, San Antonio, TX; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
George Woodward
George Woodward, 91, Brazoria, TX, formerly of Tonganoxie, KS, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 in Katy, TX.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS.
George was born on April 13, 1917 in Tonganoxie, KS, the son of Marion Townsend and Minnie May (Richardson) Woodward. He was united in marriage to Esther L. Wilbur on July 31, 1941. He was a founding member of Brazosport Good Sam Club. He was a machinist for Boeing Aircraft, DOW and Case Tractor.
Survivors include his wife, Esther L. Woodward, of the home; two daughters, Georgia Hanson, Fulshear, TX and Sharon Knight, Alvin, TX; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Geraldine (Jerry) Salmon
Geraldine (Jerry) Salmon, 80, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Tuesday October 7, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.
Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
Jerry was born December 4, 1927 in Arington, KS, the daughter of Norman and Stella (Bowman) Wiley. She was united in marriage on June 16, 1946 in Tonganoxie, KS to Roy Salmon, who survives of the home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie, and a member of the chapter A.T. P.E.O. of Tonganoxie, Jerry was retired as the Vice-President of the First State Bank and Trust, Tonganoxie.
Other Survivors include; One Son, Ronald Salmon, Chugiak, AK; One Daughter, Kathleen K. Bowen, Bedford, TX; Three Sisters, Betty Nelson, Kirkwood, MO; Joan Sanders, Lawrence, KS, and Carol Slawson, Tonganoxie, KS; Five Grandchildren; and Ten Great Grandchildren.

Marie B. Jarrett
Marie B. Jarrett, 95, Tonganoxie, KS, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at West Haven Baptist Church, where an Eastern Star service will be held.
Marie was born March 6, 1913 in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Louis and Nellie Mae (King) Bell. She was united in marriage to John Wesley Jarrett on September 22, 1933 in Springdale, KS. He preceded her in death May 26, 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tonganoxie and the Order of the Eastern Star. Marie retired from Peruvian Connection, Tonganoxie.
Survivors include her son, John Urschel Jarrett, San Diego, CA; and three sisters, Sarah Alexander, Denver, CO, Shirley Ikerd, Kansas City, KS and Violet Pettis, Kansas City, MO.
Herman Eugene McAfee
Herman Eugene McAfee, 83, Coffeyville, KS, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Windson Place in Coffeyville.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 at McLouth Cemetery, McLouth, KS. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie.
Herman was born December 9, 1924 in Winchester, KS, the son of Lacy Herman and Lydia Marie (Dixon) McAfee. He attended school at Valley Falls, KS until the age of 17, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served our country from 1942-1946 as Gunner’s Mate, Petty Officer 3rd Class. On July 15, 1944 he married
Esther Van Druff in Valley Falls, KS. He was employed as a Rancher, working in Jefferson County, Madison, Longton, Sedan and Independence, KS and Pawhuska, OK until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Caney, KS.
Survivors include his wife, Esther, of the home; two daughters, Gloria McAfee, Hugo, OK, and Judith Whitson, Coffeyville; two sons, Richard McAfee, Caney and Kenneth McAfee, Madill, OK; his siblings, James, Marge, Donald, Norma, Eldon, Russell and Sharon; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Charles F. Mills, 87, Camdenton, MO (formerly of Tonganoxie, KS), died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial in Hubbel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Charles was born April 1, 1921 in Tonganoxie, the son of Floyd and Louise (Overbaugh) Mills. He was a WW II Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post, Tonganoxie and Cross Roads Christian Church, Shawnee, KS. He worked as an automobile mechanic, then for Sambol Packing plant, K.C., KS and retired in 1986 from K-mart Distribution Center, Lawrence, KS. On Feb. 4, 1957, Charles was united in marriage to Dona Montgomery.
He is survived by his wife, Dona, of the home; son, George Mills, Tonganoxie, KS; two daughters, Sandra Klamm, N. Kansas City, MO and Ronda Mills, Camdenton, MO; two brothers, Ed, Tonganoxie and Fred, Shawnee, KS; four sisters, Ellen Harbaugh, Tonganoxie, Florence Braga, Berwick, ME, Ruth Girard, Parker, CO and Frances Fanshier, Great Bend, KS; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Joe W. White, 83, Katy, TX, formerly of Caney and Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Katy.
A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
Joe was born December 30, 1924 in Eudora, KS, the son of George W. and Ruby Warren White. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class from 1943 to 1946. He was united in marriage to Myrtis Nulk on March 22, 1947 in McLouth, KS. Mr. White was a meat inspector for USD Agriculture and a member of the United Methodist Church, Caney, KS.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtis, of the home; his son, Larry White, Katy, TX; four grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
