Willa Dee Hooper

Services for Willa Dee Hooper, 91, Pueblo, Colo., will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Hooper died Monday, May 26, 2008, in Pueblo.

She was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Polk County, Mo., the daughter of Charley and Delpha Pitts.

She and her husband moved to Kansas City, Mo., in the early 1940s and owned and operated Hooper’s Cafe for 32 years. After retirement they moved to Tonganoxie.

She married Gilbert G. Hooper July 2, 1932, in Pittsburg, Mo. He died earlier.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Mace, Pueblo; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a niece and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to United Methodist Church, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Lucy E. Messenger

Lucy E. Messenger, 74, Tonganoxie, KS died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be 10 am Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Mt. Muncie cemetery Chapel, Leavenworth, KS.

Lucy was born June 2, 1933 in Dodge City, KS, the daughter of Albert and Lucy (Hudson) Messenger. She was a cook and enjoyed raising cattle on the family farm.

Arrangements entrusted to Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, KS.

Dorothy M. Taylor

Dorothy M. Taylor, 83, Lawrence, KS (formerly of Overland Park, KS) died Friday, May 30, 2008.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial will be in Baxter Springs (KS) Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Church.

Dorothy was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Baxter Springs, KS, the daughter of Floyd W. and Bessie (Brewer) Doty. She was a loving homemaker and had worked in Government Service. Memberships include: West Haven Baptist Church, several square dancing clubs and American Legion Auxiliary. On May 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Melvin B. Taylor in Baxter Springs, KS.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Melvin, of the home; two sons, Don, Lawrence, KS and Larry, Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Frances Heavin, Baxter Springs, KS and Wilma J. Selle, Nixa, MO; 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and 2 step-great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Church.

Ruth Vera Robbins

Ruth Vera Robbins, 84, Tonganoxie, KS died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

Services will be 10 am Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, KS. Friends may call 5 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Church.

Mrs. Robbins was born October 12, 1923 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of William McKinley and Mary Ellen (Campbell) Shingleton. Ruth was a charter member of West Haven Baptist Church, a volunteer at Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and belonged to Rinda Chapter #82, Order of the Eastern Star, all of Tonganoxie. On January 18, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ralph H. Robbins. She was vital to the operation of the family owned business, Midwest Carpet Co. for many years.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Ralph, of the home; two sons, David and wife, Lisa, Tonganoxie and Phillip (Finney) and wife, Marilyn, Lawrence, KS; three daughters, Mary and husband, Jules (Frenchie) Boudreaux, Tonganoxie, Linda and husband, Art Owen, Oskaloosa, KS and Melanie and husband, Rick Chapman, Tonganoxie; brother, Keith Shingleton, Gladstone, Mo; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Ruth loved to crochet, embroidery and garden, but her true joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Ruth’s warm smile and generous, loving spirit made her a friend to all. She will be greatly missed.

Almeda M. Tinberg

Almeda M. Tinberg, 92, Tonganoxie,KS, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Hickory Point Care Center, Oskaloosa, KS.

A graveside services will be 10 am Monday June 30, 2008 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Almeda was born March 13, 1916, the daughter of Vern and Edith (Skeet) Barber. She was united in marriage on February 15, 1941 in Kansas City, KS to Richard A. Tinberg, who preceded her in death on November 20, 1999. She worked as a hair dresser and owner of Almeda’s Hotel.

She is survived by two nieces; Connie Hutchison, Tonganoxie, and Anna Jean Breuer, Basehor, KS.

Sheri Ann Davis

Sheri Ann Davis, 46, Denton, KS, formerly of Basehor, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Christian Church. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 pm at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Sheri was born January 27, 1962, the daughter of Herbert Jr. and Carole (Praznik) Daniels in Denver, Colorado. She was a homemaker and worked for the utility department of Triumph Foods, St. Joseph, MO.

Survivors include her father; Herbert Daniels Jr., Arvada, CO; her companion, Jack Bryan Denton, Denton, KS; her ex-husband, Dean Alton Davis, Basehor; two sons, Michael William Davis and Nicholas Dean Davis, both of Basehor; one daughter, Natasha Lynn and husband Scott Larsen, Wichita, KS; two brothers, Troy Daniels, Arvada, CO, and Mark Daniels, Broomfield, CO.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society C/O Quisenberry Funeral Home, Box 993 Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

Robert Lee Turner

Robert Lee Turner, 91, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Saturday July 19, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, July 25, 2008 at the First Congregational Church, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.

Robert was born August 1, 1916 the son of Robert E. and Agnes (Trapp) Turner, in Oskaloosa, KS. He was a graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, and was united in marriage on September 7, 1946 to Winifred Kimmel, McLouth, KS, who survives of the home. Robert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oskaloosa, and worked as a placement specialist for the Kansas Division Of Employment, Lawrence.

Other survivors include; one son, Robert D. Turner, Topeka, KS; two daughters, Karen Pence, Manhattan, KS, Sandra Turner, Topeka; one brother, James Turner, Winchester, KS; one sister, Irene McPherson, Oskaloosa.

The family suggests memorials to the Tonganoxie Library or the Tonganoxie Historical Society.

Ruth Carol Bloodworth McNair

Ruth Carol Bloodworth McNair, 73, Tonganoxie, KS, formerly of Kansas City, KS, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

A private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ruth was born on February 2, 1935 in Neodesha, KS, the daughter of Floyd and Esther Everett McNair. She graduated from Wellington, KS High School and the College of Emporia in 1957. She worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, KS as a commercial artist. Ruth was a Home Economics teacher for 35 years in the Kansas City, KS school district.

Survivors include 4 nieces, Sonia Reetz, Lawrence, KS, Sarah Wallace, Topeka, KS, Heidi Wallace, Houston, TX and Angela Wallace, Los Angeles, CA.

John Price

John Price, 50, Tonganoxie, KS, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.

John was born on October 17, 1957 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Arden and Dorothy Hall Price. He was US Navy Veteran. John worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Local Carpenter’s Union #168, Kansas City, MO.

Survivors include his companion, Candy Milner, of the home; two sons, Ian Price, Oak Harbour, Washington and Brian Price, Lawrence, KS; two step-sons, Adrian Milner, Gardner, KS and Corey Milner, Lake Zurich, IL; two brothers, Kenneth Price, Kincade, KS and Paul Price, Tonganoxie, KS; one sister, Mary George, Norfolk, VA and two grandchildren.

Michael Turner

Michael Turner, 57, Parkville, Mo, passed away Wednesday August 6, 2008 at his home.

Memorial Services for Michael will be 2 p.m. Saturday August 9, 2008 at the Basehor United Methodist Church. A private inurnment will follow.

Michael worked as a tooling technician for ACI Plastics in Kansas City, MO. He was a musician and artist that played many instruments and worked with stained glass and cartoons. His brother, Brian Turner preceded him in death in 2005.

Survivors include his wife Diana, of the home; and two brothers, Christopher Turner, Kansas City, MO, and Dr. Timothy Turner, Barrington, IL.

Stacy E. Potter

Stacy E. Potter, 77, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Fowler Cemetery, McLouth, KS. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie.

Stacy was born November 18, 1930 in Clinton, KS, the son of Carlyle and Vera Potter. He was a 1949 graduate of Douglas County High School. Stacy was a US Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War. He worked as a service technician for General Electric Corp., Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Hedgepath Potter, and two brothers, Lyle and Beryl Potter.

Survivors include his son, Stacy Potter, Jr., Kansas City, MO; daughter, Denise Mead, Tonganoxie; brother, Kenny Potter, Warrensburg, MO; sister, Jane Ryan, Emporia, KS; one granddaughter and one great grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the Tonganoxie VFW Post #9271, c/o Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.

JoAnn Poterbin

JoAnn Poterbin, 74, Tonganoxie, KS, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, KS. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Church where the Rosary will be said at 7 pm.

JoAnn was born February 21, 1934 in Kansas City, KS. The daughter of James and Ursula (Carr) Hulbert. She was a homemaker and had worked for Peruvian Connection, Tonganoxie, KS. She was a member of Friendship Valley Get Together Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and it’s Altar Society. On August 13, 1955, she was united in marriage to John R. Poterbin in Kansas City, KS.

She is survived by her husband, John, of the home; son, John F., Tonganoxie; daughter, Ursula Kissinger, Tonganoxie and five grandchildren.
