Charles Wernette

Charles “Charlie” “Bub” Wenrette passed away June 2, 2013, he was 91 years old. Charles was born November 15,1921 at home on Huntress Street. His parents, John and Mary (Esslinger) Wernette raised eight children, three sons and five daughters. Charles the youngest boy was valedictorian for his graduating class from Clay Center High School. In 1939 he enlisted in the US Navy. Charles was Chief Boatswains Mate aboard his ship, the U.S.S. Wright which was anchored in Pearl Harbor during the attack. In 2010, Charles attended the Veterans WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. via the Honor Flight with his son, Mike, as his escort. Charles left the Navy to come home and work for his father and sister Florence Marie in the Wernette Photography Studio and also for USPS. Charles married
Vera LaRue Gibbs in 1949 and they raised five children. Charles and Vera owned and operated the Wernette Turkey and Pheasant Farm for many years. Charles also worked with his son Mike at American Sealants Co. as well as served on the board of Commissioners in Clay County. Charles was a faithful Catholic his entire life and enjoyed attending morning Mass and ministering to the homebound, he had a gift of faith for everyone. Charles had a wonderful sense of humor, a loving smile, a gentile hand, a heart full of hope and a word of encouragement for everyone.
Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and gardening with his family and friends. It gave him a great sense of pleasure to share his many fruits and vegetables with people in the community. Charles loved being with his family and many fishing trips were enjoyed. Camping on the Republican River to Yellowstone, fishing for trout from Missouri to streams in Wyoming and Idaho and Lakes of Canada and Utah as well as houseboat trips to Lake Powell, salmon fishing in Alaska and fishing Milford Lake. Charles enjoyed being on or near the water and found it very peaceful.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera LaRue (Gibbs), one son Jon Charles and wife Darlene, two daughters, Monica and Jean, 5 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Marguerite, Lois and Clara, and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his youngest son, Guy Kevin, his oldest son, Charles Michael, his parents, brothers, Eugene and John, Sisters Florence Marie and Josephine.
Charles was a lifetime member of St’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church, V.F.W., American Legion, U.S.S. Wright WWII Veterans Organization, Knights of Columbus and Retired Federal Civil Service. Respect calls are Wednesday, June 5th from 3:00 to 7:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center. Funeral Mass is Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center. Interment will follow and Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.
Memorials may be given to the Good Shepard Hospice House or SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church c/o the funeral home. Charles took a great deal of pleasure being with his family and friends. He taught us with Hope you have Faith and with Faith anything is possible.
Carolyn Smith

CAROLYN SMITH died June 1, 2013 at Timber Creek Campground, Wakefield, KS at the age of 65. She was born on June 22, 1947 in Sacramento, California the daughter of Melvine Lee and Alta Grace (Dickenson) Murrin.
Carolyn grew up in Sacremento, CA. She moved to Clay Center, KS in the late 1980's. She worked as a C.N.A. at Medicalodge and Three Rivers. She also worked as a home health aide. She volunteered and served the St. Joseph's Indian School and was active with Helping Hands Humane Society. She was preceded in death by her father and 2 brothers.

Kurt Louis Erickson

KURT LOUIS ERICKSON died June 5, 2013 at his home in Clay Center, KS at the age of 28. He was born on January 25, 1985 in Davenport, IA the son of Kent Erickson and Kathy Heins.
Kurt was raised in Clay Center. He attended Hillsdale College in Michigan where he worked as an I.T. Tech. He was a National Merit Commended Scholar. He then attended University of Kansas. Kurt was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and Boy Scouts of America. He also performed with the Community Orchestra and was a talented pianist. He is preceded by his grandmother, Janice Heins, grandfather, Walter Erickson and uncle, William Heins.

Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10 from 3-8pm at the funeral home.

Tracy Hall

TRACY LEE HALL died June 5, 2013 at her home in Clay Center, KS at the age of 41. She was born on July 21, 1971 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Arlie Juhlin and Linda Anderson.
Tracy graduated from Norfolk, Nebraska High School. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989 as was stationed in Hawaii until her discharge in 1991. She married
Jason W. Hall on March 2, 1991 aand he survives of the home. She worked in Belleville, KS for Scott Specialties until moving to Clay Center in 2000. Tracy has served in the Kansas National Guard over 22 years. She has worked in civil service at Ft. Riley for the Kansas National Guard for 13 years. She was activated for service in Iraq in 2006 returning in 2007 back to Ft. Riley and semi-retired in 2012. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Piotique Quilter's Guild and a former member the American Legion all of Clay Center.

Bernice Fellers

BERNICE FELLERS died June 3, 2013 at her residence in rural Clyde, KS at the age of 88. She was born on May 20, 1925 in Shawnee County, KS the daughter of Glen and Bertha (Pray) Wells .
Bernice was raised in Manhattan. She worked for an Aircraft Manufacture in California. She married
J.D. Hupe in 1945 and they divorced. She then married
Chester Boller, Sr. in 1951 and they divorced. She married
Marvin Fellers, Jr. in 1975 and he preceded her in 1981. She was a member of the VFW Auxillary and a former member of the Eagles, both of Manhattan. She is also preceded by a daughter, Marjory Cooper, 1 Great Grandchild, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Larry Linquist

LARRY L. LINQUIST died May 14, 2013 at his residence in Clay Center, KS at the age of 67. He was born on March 17, 1946 in Clay Center Kansas, the son of Floyd and Florence (Bidwell) Linquist.
Larry graduated from CCCHS in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Larry married
Ida Jackson on August 23, 1969 and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2003. Larry worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 10 years and then as a welder for Hutchinson Manufacturing until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a life-time member of the American Legion.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on will be held from 3-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
