Imogene Kamphaus

IMOGENE KAMPHAUS died May 27, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 94. She was born on June 21, 1917 in Clay Center Kansas, the daughter of Fred , Sr and Lola (Kemp) Griffiths.
Imogene attended Washington #15 country school and graduated from CCCHS in 1935. She attended Kansas State University and taught in in country grade schools for 7 years. Imogene married
Edward Kamphaus on December 28, 1941. They made their home and farmed in the Five Creeks township west of Clay Center. Edward preceded her in death on April 4, 2001. She was a member of the Idana Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, was a session member and a member of the Presbyterian Women's Group. Imogene served on the Clay County Fair Board, Clay County Extension Services, held offices in the local Farm Bureau, County Liners EHU and was a member of the Retired Teachers. She enjoyed entering cookies, needlework and flowers in the Clay County Fair and proudly displayed the many ribbons she won. Imogene's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and keeping up on their activities. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother Fred Griffiths, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Idana, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Rev. James Byers.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday 3-8 PM at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 7-8 PM

LEONARD A. MATSON, 96 died May 26, 2012 at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, KS. He was born May 28, 1915 in Denver, CO the son of John and Alma (Carlson) Matson
Leonard was raised in Washington County and attended Marcotte country school. He married
Hulda Leiszler on June 5, 1940. They farmed and ranched north of Clifton until his retirement at age 89. Hulda preceded him in death on January 28, 2010. He is also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Cleora Matson and Eileen Ransopher,, sister Marie (Matson) Pinder and grandsons, Cameron and Wiley Blaha. Leonard was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Clara, KS, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clifton, KS, Washington Co. Extension Council, 4-H Community Leader, 4-H Beef Project Leader, FHA Board, ASCS Board, past-President of the Washington County Cattlemen's Assoc., Washington County KLA, director of St. Bernard's Catholic Church Council, Brantford Community Center Board, Brantford Township Board, Democrat Party Committee Member, he received the 1971 Washington County Farm Family award, the 1971 Master Farmer award and the 1978 Soil Conservation Banker's award.

BERNICE NETTIE STOFFEL died May 27, 2012 at , Wapello, IA at the age of 84. Bernice was born on October 13, 1927 in Aurora, Kansas the daughter of Albert and Elvina (Chavey) Adam.
Bernice attended the Woodruff Country School. She was a homemaker and also worked as a motel clerk. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald; two sisters, Ruth Pearce and May Bauer; an infant brother; and her longtime companion, Marvin Lilliman.

Inurnment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on will be held from 10:00 am until service time at the church on Monday, June 4, 2012.

ERNESTINE SIEVERIN died June 1, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 96. She was born on February 15, 1916 in Clay Center Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Gracie (Hall) Starkweather.
Ernestine was raised in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS. She married
Marvin Sieverin on March 15, 1935. Ernestine worked for as a secretary for Dr. Shepard and for Bert Sorem Insurance. Marvin preceded her in death on April 10, 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Ernestine is also preceded by a daughter, Kathe Turner.

George D. Johnson

GEORGE D. JOHNSON, 91 died June 2, 2012 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS. He was born November 13, 1920 in Clay Center,Kansas the son of George and Myra (Tripp)Johnson. George D. grew up in Clay Center. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Sea Bee from 1942 until 1945. He married
Mary Ann Craig on January 1, 1944 and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1995. They made their home and raised their family in Oxnard, CA for many years. George D. was a Planner and Estimator for the Civil Service at Pt. Mugu until retiring in 1977. He moved back to Clay Center in the early 1990s. He was a member of the Clay Center Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine, and the Clay Center American Legion. His brother, Richard preceded him in death in 1985.

Janice Straub
(Died June 5, 2012)
JANICE STRAUB died June 5, 2012 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 56. She was born on February 13, 1956 in Clay Center Kansas, the daughter of Richard and Delorse (McCollum) Kahrs.
Janice was raised in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS in 1974. She worked one year for the Clay Center Street Department before transferring to the Waste Water Treatment Plant, retiring in 2009 as Asst. Superintendent. Janice married
Al Straub on April 28, 1990, he survives of the home. She is preceded in death by her father. Janice enjoyed flowers, quilting, crocheting, playing cards and pool and a good cup of coffee.
