Hilda Wayman
Hilda M. (Harder) Wayman, age 79, of Clearwater, retired RN, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28. Services were held at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m.
Hilda Marie Harder was born on Aug. 4, 1933, to John and Margaret (Fenimore) Harder. She was the second of four children born to this union. Hilda and her siblings, John, Bud, and Margaret Ann grew up on the farm, located between Benton and Whitewater. Her father passed away in 1942 when she was eight years old. Her mother married
Ivan Gale in 1945. Four more children were added to the family – Susann, Donna, Donice, and Bill. Hilda counted herself fortunate to have two wonderful men she called Daddy. After graduating Whitewater High School in 1951, she worked as a supply clerk at Wesley Hospital in Wichita. Hilda married
Vernon Hiebert on Nov. 9, 1952. To this union three children were born – Doris, Diane, and Dale. Hilda became the first female deputy sheriff in Albuquerque. On July 4, 1977, Hilda married
Dale Ely. Finally in 1986, Hilda realized her lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse. She worked at Ninnescah Manor as the Director of Nurses until her retirement in 1999. Dale Ely died in July, 1989. In 1999, Hilda met and married
Paul Wayman. He died on Sept. 1, 2007. She was a member of the Clearwater Church of Christ and later the Andover Church of Christ. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Post 112.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather; husbands, Dale Ely and Paul Wayman; siblings, John Harder, Bud Harder, and Susann Cooper. Survivors include her children, Doris McBride of Parkville, Mo., Diane Hiebert of Wichita and Dale Hiebert of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; siblings, Margaret Tilley of Augusta, Bill Gale of Wichita, Donice Chapman of Douglas, Wyo. and Donna Regnary of Wellington; grandchildren, Christopher Hiebert, Missy McBride, John McBride, Shane McBride, Jenny Neal and Lindsay Neal; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her first husband, Vernon Hiebert.
Memorials: Andover Church of Christ and VFW Post 112, Wichita, KS. Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Cokely
Charles L. “Chuck” Cokely, 71, died Nov. 22, 2012, at Cheney.
He was born Oct. 20, 1941, at Watonga, Oklahoma, the son of Charlie and Lucille Bliss Cokely. A longtime Cheney resident, he was a retired employee of the City of Cheney Maintenance Department.
He attended Cheney Trinity United Christian Church.
On Feb. 7, 1969, he married
Marilyn Cross at Wichita.
Other survivors include a son, Gary; daughter, Terri Noll and husband Brad; brother, Kenneth; sister, Barbara McGregor; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Hoheisel.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Cheney Trinity United Christian Church. Friends called from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman. Visitation with the family was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cheney Trinity United Christian Church. Burial will be in Afton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made with Cheney Golden Age Home, or Cheney Emergency Fund, both in care of Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman.
Betty Jerrick
Betty J. Jerrick (Zandler), age 72, after a long battle with breast cancer, died Wednesday, Nov. 21. Rosary was at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 25. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 26, both at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Mulvane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Alma (Maechtlen) Zandler; brother, James. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jim; children, Ron (Renee) Jerrick of Belle Plaine, Lori (Kyle) Kelting of Amarillo, Texas, Rod (Kristin) Jerrick of Inman; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
James Kampling
James C. Kampling, 90, died Nov. 7, 2012. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, with the service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, both at St. Rose Catholic Church, Mt. Vernon, Kan.
Jim was born Sept. 22, 1922 to John and Rose (Gittrich) Kampling on a farm 2-1/2 miles east of Cheney. He attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and Garden Plain High School. Jim served in the U.S. Army for three years (one year in the U.S., six months in England, and 1-1/2 years in Europe beginning with the invasion on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France and ending with the fall of Germany.) He married
Mildred Bugner on Feb. 12, 1946 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Garden Plain. He worked for 15 years as a milk delivery salesman for Stephen’s Dairy. Jim spent 35 years running Kampling’s General Store at Mt. Vernon. Jim retired in Cheney and gained many years of wisdom over coffee in Gabby Jack’s Cafe in Cheney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; sons, Mike (Cheryl) of St. Marks, and Greg (Marcia) of Cheney; daughters, Becky (Ron) Elpers of Wichita, Brenda (Carl) Wewe of Pretty Pretty Prairie, and Barb (Ed) Laverentz of Cheney; brother, Jerry (Lavera) of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church. Wulf-Ast Mortuary of Garden Plain was in charge of arrangements.
Leo Martin
Leo J. Martin passed away on Sunday Nov. 25 in Wichita after a long illness.
Leo was born Oct. 14, 1942 to Gregory and Martina (Boor) Martin. Leo was a master craftsman who enjoyed working with wood most of his life. On April 11, 1964, he married
Jane Dick at Sharon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Carl and Stan Martin, sister Donna Cremer, and his beloved grandson, Jared James Martin.
Leo is survived by his wife, Jane; his sons, James (Treasa) Martin, David (Janelle) Martin, and Doug (Kristy) Martin; and daughter, Ann (Travis) Howe; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, JoAnn (Don) Leis and Mary Minton; brother-in-law, Mark Cremer; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, and funeral mass was on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m., both at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Andale with Fr. Joseph Gile officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Andale. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Wulf-Ast Mortuary of Colwich was in charge of arrangements.
Mauricia F. Pipkin
Mauricia F. (Jamieson) Pipkin, 98, former home economics teacher for Rose Hill and Whitewater, died Mon, Nov. 19.
Mauricia was born on June 20, 1914 in Clearwater. On Dec. 23, 1944, she married
Meredith Granger Pipkin.
Survivors include five children, Gayle Sears of Crownsville, Md., Susan (Cle) Alexander of Andover, J.D. (Theresa) Pipkin of Lawrence, William Pipkin of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Brad Pipkin of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Meredith Pipkin; parents, Thomas and Edna (Critzer) Jamieson; and her brother, Dr. Gordon Jamieson.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary in Clearwater.

Doris Ward
Doris Aline Ward, 83, formerly of Arkansas City, died Saturday, Nov. 24, at her residence in Cheney. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Cremation has been effected.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to service time.
Doris was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Columbus, to Lysle and Amy (Brentlinger) Waggoner. She was reared and educated in Columbus, Ponca City and Enid, Okla. and Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1946. She married
Charles E. Ward on June 26, 1948. The couple made their home in Arkansas City until after his death in 1984. Doris worked for Viola Industries and later as the Clerk for Cowley County District Court. Doris moved to Olathe and Overland Park working for the Johnson County court system. She moved to Cheney about a month ago.
Survivors include her children, Kelly Florez of Olathe, Jane and husband Jerry Olivero of Evansville, Ind., Charles and wife Jan of Simpsonville, S.C., Jeanne and husband Bob Linnebur of Cheney; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Jerry Kelley.
A memorial has been established with Twin Rivers Developmental Services of Cowley County. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Brandon Stone
(Died July 25, 2011)
BRANDON LLOYD STONE died July 25, 2011 at his residence in rural Leonardville, KS at the age of 24. He was born on May 28, 1987 in Johnson Kansas, the son of Bradley Lloyd Stone and Lora Jean McMillin.
Brandon attended CCCHS and Cloud County Community College. He worked on the farm with his father. He enjoyed fishing, riding horses and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Raymond Lloyd Stone and his uncle Jay Reynolds.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Doug Wallace.
Burial will be at the Clifton IOOF Cemetery, Clifton, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27 from 3-8pm at the funeral home.

Clem Wiechman
(Died August 17, 2011)
CLEM W. WIECHMAN died August 17, 2011 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, KS at the age of 84. He was born on July 19, 1927 in Chepstow, KS the son of Fred and Naomi (Dodds) Wiechman. Clem was raised in the Greenleaf, Kansas area. He was a Colorado State Trooper for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty, his son William and 3 brothers. He married
Velda James Mailen in 2007 and she survives of the home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Grandchildren: 3 grand and 2 great-grandchildren
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 11:00Am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Paul Tessaro.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 24, 2011 the Crown Hill Memorial Park, Denver, CO.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21st from 2:00 to 5:00pm at the funeral home
