Raymond Appelman
Raymond W. Appelman, 65, died Jan. 30, 2013, in Wichita. He was born Aug. 2, 1947, in Wichita, the son of Kenneth Appelman and Lovina Goddell.
A resident of Garden Plain, he was a plumber. Survivors include his brother, Gary and Kay Appelman of Viola; sister, Joyce Sinclair of Goddard; fiancée, Pat Bomholt of Cheney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Garden Plain Community Church, with Clergyman Alan Hill officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Goddard. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain is in charge of arrangements.
Wesley Dobbs
Wesley Dobbs, age 74, of Haysville, retired Turnpike Authority Programmer Analyst, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. Visitation was 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday. Services were at 10 a.m. on Monday. Both were at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel in Clearwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Laura (Ingram) Dobbs; son, Darris; siblings, Roger, Wayne, and Gerald Dobbs, and JoAnn Kisner. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mona; sons, Greg (Tracey) Dobbs of Delano, Minn. and Jeff Dobbs of Wichita; daughter-in-law, Nancy Jordan of Haysville; granddaughter, Amanda Dobbs of Columbia, Mo.

Dustin Koller
Dustin Jay “Dusty” Koller, 24, Hyspeco hydraulics mechanic, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Ashley Stilwell of Wichita; children, Braxton and Cami Koller; parents, Kirk and Sharon Koller; brother, Donovan Cummins, all of Clearwater; sister, Jessica Koller-Potter of Copan, Okla.; grandmothers, Sandra Cummins of Clearwater and Sharon Ishmael of Monmouth, Ill.; grandfather, Jeff Koller of Monmouth, Ill.; and great-grandmother, Rosie Bailey of Lisbon, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, with family present from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at First Christian Church.

LaVina McEntire
LaVina A. McEntire, age 91, homemaker, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.
Visitation was 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family present, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary in Clearwater. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Clearwater United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Iva (Rodarmel) Barnes; and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Clearwater; children, Eileen (Ron) Alexander of Ft. Collins, Colo., Les (Jean) McEntire and Karla (Darrel) Slechta of Derby; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Rosemary Pyle
Rosemary Pyle, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. She was born June 28, 1933, in Wichita, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (LeWallen) Hartley.
She was preceded in death: her parents and one sister, Linda Rohleder.
She is survived by sons, Carl (Deborah) of Clay Center, and Douglas (Nola) of New Paris, Ind.; daughters, Kimberly (Greg) Abernathy of Manhattan, Kan. and Jennifer (Rocky) Calderon of Clearwater; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association, in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center.
Lawrence D. Rausch
Lawrence D. Rausch, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Wichita.
Rausch was born Nov. 5, 1946, in Garden City and graduated from Garden Plain High School in 1964.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert “Butch” Rausch; and his mother, Mary Zoglmann Rausch. Survivors include a sister, Laquita Lowery and her husband, Keith, of Glen Allen, Va.; two brothers, Dale Rausch and his wife, Chris, and Daniel Rausch and his wife, Kathrine, all of Wichita; six nieces; three nephews; six great-nieces; and six great-nephews.
Rosary will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Garden Plain at 10 a.m., with Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Garden Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Wichita.

Leonard Anton
Leonard Lee Anton, 83, retired electronics repairman, died Friday evening, Jan. 18, 2013 at his home in rural Viola.
He was born the son of Frank and Mary (Jelinek) Anton on June 29, 1929, in Caldwell. Leonard graduated from the eighth grade at Morgan School and graduated from Bluff City High School in 1947.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Leonard worked at Firestone in Anthony as a repairman. He attended electronics trade school in Wichita. He worked for Boeing in Wichita and in Seattle, Wash. He also worked in the electronics department at several Wichita hospitals, including St. Francis, St. Joe and Wesley before retiring from Wichita State University.
Leonard was united in marriage to Juanita Benson and to this union two daughters were born, Frankie and Mauritta.
Leonard married
Rachel Downing at Newkirk, Okla. on March 27, 1964, and added two daughters to his family, Tina and Ronda. To this union was born another daughter, Linda.
Leonard had many hobbies including gardening and woodworking. He was always thinking of a new and upcoming project. After retirement, Leonard and Rachel enjoyed going to craft shows selling magnetic jewelry that Leonard made.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Anton; brother, Joseph Anton; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Withers; and granddaughter, Amanda Rausch.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rachel, of the home in Viola; daughters, Linda Rausch and her husband Randy of Cheney, Ronda Mollenkamp and her husband Dwight of Garden Plain, Tina Forest and Chris Bocangra of Wichita, Mauritta Adams and her husband Tim of Holcomb, Frankie Anton of Garden City; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel in Caldwell. Rev. Dan Floyd officiated. Pat Weber served as organist and accompanied Dan Floyd as he sang “Amazing Grace” and as Carol Sauerwein sang “In the Garden” and “On Eagle’s Wings”.
Casket bearers were Josh Clark, Dustin Rausch, Ryan Rausch, Doyle Mollenkamp, Adam Rausch, David Mollenkamp, Greg Martinez, Jason Martinez, John Anton and Darren Forest.
Memorials may be given in Leonard’s name to the Czechoslovakian cemetery or to Sokol Hall.
Arrangements were made by Schaeffer Mortuary at 6 N. Main in Caldwell.
Francis Ast
Francis John Ast, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013. Francis was born to Joseph and Katherine Ast on Nov. 7, 1921. He was a retired farmer.
Visitation was 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain. Rosary was Wednesday, Jan 23, 2013, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Schulte. Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at St. Peter Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, Richard, Vincent, Clem, Martin, and Julius; and sister, Agatha Erker.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Wichita; sons, Vern of Verona, Mo., David of Monett, Mo., Melvin (Gwen) of Wellington, Ron (Deb) of Kingman, Stan of Mayfield, Mike (Wanda) of Monett, Mo., and Glenn (Sarah) of Avon, Colo.; daughters, Judy Mertes of Wichita and Linda (Mike) McFerrin of Ft Collins, Colo.; sister, Josephine Jansen of Wichita; brother, Aemil (Mary Ann) of Colwich; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Arlene Hefley
Arlene (Martin) Hefley, 76, retired Cessna tool crib attendant, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Clonmel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry and parents, Tony and Hilda (Mainz) Martin. Survivors include sons, Dwayne Hefley of Wichita, David (Cindy) Hefley of Tucson, Ariz., Daryl (Sandi) Hefley of Norwich, and Devin (Joyce) Hefley of Milton; sisters, Shirley Simon and Joyce Keith, both of Wichita; brothers, Gene (Elaine) Martin of Conway Springs, and Gary (Judy) Martin of Clearwater; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church, 18630 W. 71st St. S., Viola, KS 67149.

Wayne Baxter
Wayne Samuel Baxter, age 86, was born Jan. 15, 1926, and passed away Jan. 1, 2013, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was born Jan. 15, 1926, at Wichita Hospital to Lewis Samuel and Dora Myrtle (Brown) Baxter.
He was formerly employed by Boeing in Wichita and General Electric in N.M.
Burial was at Santa Fe National cemetery on Jan. 8, 2013. He was a WWII veteran and there were two color guards who presented a flag.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ellen; and five siblings, Lewis, Francis, Olive, Dale and Arlyne.
He is survived by his children, Karlyne Nordham of Alba, Kevin Baxter of Georgia, and Sara Bennett of Belle Plaine; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert Farmer
Robert G. Farmer, Sr., 84 of 9611 S. 295 St. W, Viola, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Via Christi - St. Francis in Wichita.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1928, in Anness, Kan., to John Joseph Farmer, Jr. and Mildred Maye Casner Farmer. Bob moved with his parents to their family farm northwest of Viola in 1937. He grew up in the Viola community and attended Viola public schools. He graduated from Viola High School with the class of 1946. Bob continued his education at Wichita State University.
Bob entered the U.S. Navy on Aug. 27, 1947, where he served his country as a hospital corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged on June 6, 1950.
Bob was united in marriage to Wanda Irena Means on Feb. 14, 1953, at the Viola United Presbyterian Church in Viola. They made their home in the Viola community where they raised their family on the family farm. Bob was a farmer, stockman and dairyman. He and his family began raising fallow deer in 1990 and established Farmer’s Fallow Deer Farm.
Bob was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder, Trustee, Clerk of Session and Sunday School teacher. He was a member and past master of Mistletoe Lodge #269 AF & AM; member and past worthy patron of Dorcas Chapter #157 O.E.S., as well as a member of the Wichita Consistory. Bob sang with the Midian Shrine Chanters for many years and was also a charter member of the Viola Lions Club. He was active in the North American Deer Farmers Association and was a member of Central States Venison Producers, which eventually became the Kansas Cervid Breeders. In earlier years, Bob also served as president of the Kansas Pony Trotting Association. He was involved in education and had served on both the Viola School Board and USD 356 Board of Education in Conway Springs for a combined total of 24 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Farmer of the home; two sons, Robert Farmer, Jr. and wife Deana, Bradley Farmer and wife Shirley, all of Viola; one daughter, Janet Warren and husband, Charles, of Salina; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Viola United Presbyterian Church in Viola, with the Rev. Jan Brooks officiating. Interment was in Viola cemetery in Viola.
Arrangements were by Ebersole Mortuary in Conway Springs.
A memorial has been established to the Viola United Presbyterian Church in Viola.
