Cora I. Peter
Cora I. Peter, age 86, of Manhattan, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at her home in Manhattan.
She was born Aug. 10, 1921, at Goddard, Kan., the daughter of Emry and Anna (Cooley) Hendrixson.
She attended Peotone Grade School, Milan High School, Garden Plain High School and graduated from Cheney High School in 1941.
Cora worked at Buck’s Department Store, Cudahy Packing Co. and had been a data control clerk for 31 years with the Boeing Co. in Wichita, before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Keats United Methodist Church and the Silver Creek Beneficiary Club.
She married
James Turner on May 21, 1944 and to this union was born a son, Steven James Turner. She married
Raymond Peter on Oct. 2, 1981. After Raymond’s retirement in 1987 they moved to Manhattan, Raymond’s hometown.
Cora wrote in a journal “have lived a great life, sorrows and joys. I thank God for all the good years, but know there are bumps along the way.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Ed, Fred, Merle, Lloyd and Harry Hendrixson and four sisters; Lyrah Pace, Rosa Henderixson, Jeanne McKay and Esther Crawford.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Peter of the home in Manhattan, Kan.; a son, Steven Turner and wife, Laura of Everett, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Jarchow and husband, Gary of Derby, Kan.; one sister, Ruth Ann Boes of Wichita, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Marlene Hendrixson of Wichita, Kan.; one grandson, Wade Turner; two great-granddaughters; seven step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kan., with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Pallbearers were Vernon Hendrixson, Darren Hendrixson, Michael Zeiner, Douglas Crawford, Michael Turner and Jared Schurle. Graveside services followed at the Fairview cemetery at Cheney, Kan.
Memorials have been established for the Keats United Methodist Church and Homecare and Hospice of Manhattan.
Donald Bergkamp
Donald M. Bergkamp, 78, devoted husband and father, passed away at his home Wednesday Jan. 9, 2008. He was a dairyman, farmer and founder of Bergkamp Insurance Center of South Hutchinson.
He was born Nov. 14, 1929, on the family farm near Mt. Vernon, Kan., the son of Joseph and Nora (Gerber) Bergkamp.

Joymlee Walker at Hutchinson, Kan., Survivors include his wife Joymlee of the home, sons and (spouses), Greg (Carol) Bergkamp, Donald Bergkamp II, all of Pretty Prairie, Kan.;, Phil (Donna) Bergkamp of Andale, Kan., Paul (Karen) Bergkamp, Kevin (Donna) Bergkamp, all of Colwich, Kan.; daughters and (spouses), Denise Lagaly of Colwich, Kan., Michelle Becker of Wichita, Janet (Leon) Head of Lyons, Kan., Stephanie (Rusty) Meyer of Whitewater, Kan.; brothers, Gerald Bergkamp, Harold Bergkamp, both of Denver, Colo., Joseph Bergkamp of Puerto Rico, Norbert Bergkamp of Garden Plain, Kan., William Bergkamp of Halstead, Kan., Gilbert Bergkamp of Pretty Prairie, Kan., 32 grandchildren, three great-granddaughters; preceded in death by his parents, one son, Joseph Bergkamp, brother, Wilfred Bergkamp.
Rosary was 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 and funeral Mass was 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church Ost, Kan., with Father Ivan Eck, celebrant. Interment was at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Kan.
A memorial has been established with St. Joseph Catholic School Endowment Fund or Hospice of Reno County.

Richard G. Booth
Richard G. Booth, age 67, of Clearwater, retired USD 264 teacher, bus driver, and golf coach, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. He was a caring man, loved by many.
Richard Glenn Booth was born Feb. 29, 1940 in Cambridge, Kan., the third of four children born to his parents, Oran and Flora (Hankins) Booth. He grew up in Cambridge and went on to graduate from Arkansas City, Jr. College. After serving two years in the Army, he graduated from WSU with a master’s degree in education. He taught middle school English in Clearwater for 34 years. Richard loved to hunt, fish, play golf and visit his grandchildren.
He was united in marriage to Sonja Venters on Sept. 8, 1965. He is survived by his wife Sonja of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Curt Rosenbaum of Plainfield, Ill; sister, Arlene Thompson of Otis, Kan.; brother, Jim Booth of New Strawn, Kan.; grandchildren, Zachary, Beth, and Nora Rosenbaum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Flora (Hankins) Booth; brother, Arthur “Art” Booth.
Services were held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Clearwater United Methodist Church. Graveside services were at 2 p.m., Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, Kan. Delia M. Cross
Delia M. Cross, 91, died Jan. 10, 2008, at the Cheney Golden Age Home.
She was born May 22, 1916, at Kingman, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Mary Maple Grice. A longtime resident of the Norwich community, she was a former teacher and a homemaker.
She was a member of the Norwich Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Kenny B. and wife Angie, Cheney, and Cliff L., Goddard; two daughters and their spouses, Marilyn L. Cokely and Chuck of Cheney, and Marlene L. Rice and Russell Reid, Tahlequah, Okla.; grandchildren Gary Cokely and wife Dana; Terri Noll and husband Brad; James Rice; Jeff Rice and wife Staci; Michael Cross; great-grandchildren Adam, Pfc. Landon and Grant Hoheisel, Shianne, Addison and Ethan Cokely; and a great-great-grandchild Ashton Hoheisel.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Visitation was 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with family present from 2-4 p.m. Burial was at the Hunt Cemetery, Rago, Kan.
Memorials may be made to the Norwich Church of Christ, the Cheney Golden Age Home and the Silver Maple Camp, all in care of Livingston Funeral Home, 1830 North Main St., Kingman, KS 67068.
Lillian Gunnels
Lillian Gunnels, 79, of Goddard, died Jan. 7, 2008 at Medicalodges of Goddard.
She was born Aug. 21, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Koehn) Eck.
On Sept. 17, 1949, she married
Charles Gunnels at Newton, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2007.
Survivors include daughters Ginnette Gunnels of Goddard; Grace McConnell of Valley Falls, Kan., sons, Glenn Gunnels of Wichita, George Gunnels of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Detrick Eck of Newton, Kan., Paul Eck of Elk Falls, Kan.; sisters Eva Lena Suderman of Hesston, Kan., Marie Matz of Kechi, Kan., Malinda Guhr of Newton, Kan.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Obera Janzen, Bertha Jantz, Frieda Eck, Margaret Miller.
Service was 11 a.m., Friday Jan. 12 at Greenwood cemetery in Newton, Kan. Burial followed.
A memorial has been established with American Cancer Society.

Billy Keever
Billy Dean Keever, age 76, of Wichita, retired Cessna Avionics Electrician, died Tues, Jan. 8, 2008.
Billy Dean Keever was born on Oct. 9, 1931 in Corning, Iowa. He was one of two boys born to his parents, Dow and Inez (Wynn) Keever. He worked in his father’s store, Keever Hardware, in Corning, Iowa until 1962 when he moved to Wichita, Kan. He then worked 23 years for Cessna as an Avionics Electrician. He served two years in the United States Army. On Dec. 30, 1976, he was united in marriage to Rozella M. Orr.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater. Memorials: Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New NY 10018, or Alzheimer’s Association, Sunflower Chapter, 347 Laura, Wichita, KS 67211.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dow and Inez (Wynn) Keever; son, Tim. He is survived by his wife, Rozella; sons, Mike Keever of Lincoln, Neb., Tom Thompson, Ed Dicks, both of Wichita, Ernie Dicks of Albuquerque, N.M., Bob Dicks of Belle Plaine; daughters, Debbie Keever of Portland, Ore., Emily Allen, Carla Sampson, Evelyn Fleming, all of Wichita, Randi Cowdin of Federal Way, Wash.; brother, Jerry Keever of Monroe, La.; 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.

Betty J. (Howell) O’Connell
Betty J. (Howell) O’Connell, age 85, Belle Plaine homemaker, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008.
Services were held 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater. Interment was in Council Hill Cemetery, Peck, Kan. Memorial: Kansas Humane Society, 4218 SE Blvd, Wichita, KS 67210.
She was preceded in death by husband, James O’Connell, III; sisters, Lourine Murphy, Louise Pletcher; brother, Rial Howell. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Horton of Belle Plaine; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Viola O’Connell of Omaha, Neb.

Keith F. “Kenny” Smith
Keith F. “Kenny” Smith, 80, of Norwich, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008 at Kingman Community Hospital, Kingman, Kan.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at the Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, Kan. Interment will be in the Eden Cemetery, Milton, Kan.
Survivors: wife, Nettie Smith of the home; one daughter, Kathy Berry of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers: Leon Smith of Cheney, Kan. and Donald Schmidt of Grand Rapids, Minn.; one sister, Mavis Swenson of Washington; two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the David Berry Memorial Fund.
Arrangements were made by Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs.
Opal (Reno) Wimer
Opal (Reno) Wimer, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away January 7, 2008, in her home in the rural Waterloo area. She was born April 30, 1919 at the home of her parents, Roy E. and Mae (Pipkin) Reno. She attended Star Grade School and Kingman High School. After high school she attended the Apostolic Faith Bible School in Baxter Springs, Kan. She and her sister, Elba, traveled extensively singing specials in gospel services.
She married
John E. Wimer, Sept. 1, 1940 at her parents’ home. They were married
61 years until his death on Sept. 24, 2001. John and Opal established their home in eastern Kingman County. Opal belonged to the Apostolic Faith Trinity Church in Kingman. She was a farmer’s wife, Sunday School teacher, church pianist, 4-H project leader, prayer warrior and one who always helped those in need.
Surviving are the nine children that blessed their home. Donna (Clint) Kingsley, Cerritos, Calif.; Patricia (Gary) Stansbury, Hesston, Kan.; Marjorie (Phil) Moorhouse, Cheney; Jeanette Madersky, Murdock; Kathleen (Bill) Townley, Pretty Prairie; John (Jane) Wimer, Murdock; Karen (Arville) Satcher, Quitman, Miss.; Phyllis Wimer, Murdock; and Robert (Lynn) Wimer, Hutchinson, Kan.
They had 26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two on the way, and one great-great grandchild.
Also surviving is one sister Elba Opdyke, one brother Merle (Julia) Reno, sister-in-law Ruth Wimer and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by loving husband John, sister Lillie Wohlford, son-in-law Andrew Madersky, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at Livingston Funeral home, Saturday, January 12, 2008. Burial will be at Vinita Cemetery, Vinita Township.
Memorials can be sent for the Apostolic Faith Trinity Church in care of Livingston Funeral Home.
Donna Clasen
Donna Jean “Tiny” Clasen, 77, retired C.M.A. of Medicalodges of Goddard, died Feb. 16, 2008 in Wichita, Kan. She was born March 20, 1930 in Aleppo, Kan., the daughter of Mathias and Bertha (Kraus) Thimmesch, Sr. On May 29, 1954 she was united in marriage to Francis “Fuzzy” Clasen at Garden Plain, Kan.
Rosary was 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, and funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, both at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain, with Father Samuel Pinkerton officiating. Interment was at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Survivors include husband Francis Clasen of the home, sons Dave Clasen, Don (Dee) Clasen, Doug (Cindy) Clasen, all of Wichita; daughter, Diane (Ben) Cooper of Pineville, Mo., brother Allen Thimmesch of Garden Plain, sisters Eileen Stuhlsatz and Dorothy Kerschen, both of Garden Plain, Mary Jean Gerstenkorn of Wichita, 13 grandchildren, one great grandson.
A memorial has been established with American Cancer Society.

Marguerite Geubelle
Marguerite M. Geubelle, 91, retired nurse’s aide, of Garden Plain, died Feb. 17, 2008 in Pretty Prairie, Kan. She was born June 25, 1916 in St. Marks, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Magdalena (Doffing) Girrens. On Feb. 24, 1936 she was united in marriage to Anthony Geubelle in St. Marks.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 and funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church Ost, Kan., with Father Ivan Eck officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ost, Kan.
Survivors include daughters Connie Gagne of Coalinga, Calif., Phyllis Lubbers of Wichita, Wanda Sherbon of Seabring, Fla.; brothers Roman Girrens of Kansas City, Kan., Leo Girrens of Wichita, Francis Girrens of Goddard; sisters, Eileen Harrington of Conway Springs, Sister Mary Alice Girrens of Virginia; eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
