Dorothy Corr

Dorothy J. (Harrington) Corr, age 79, of Clearwater, retired school teacher, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

Dorothy Jeane Harrington Corr was born on November 9, 1926 in Clearwater, Kan. She was the youngest of five children born to her parents, Claude and Lulu (Smock) Harrington. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1944. After graduating high school, Dorothy began her teaching career with her first assignment at the Union School District #119, known as “Bloody Run,” a one-room schoolhouse in Sumner County. The following year, she moved on to the Milton School where she taught first and second grades for three years.

On June 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gerald Emerson Corr at her parents’ home southwest of Clearwater. For the next fourteen years she took care of her family, attended Friends University at night and during the summers earned her bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University. In 1962, she returned to her teaching career at Haysville teaching fifth grade. In 1964, she began teaching at Goddard Elementary. Dorothy suffered a stroke in 1966 that left her unable to speak.

After hundreds of hours of determined therapy over the next year, she was able to resume her teaching career at Goddard Elementary, where she taught second and third grades for the next 25 years. Continuing her own education, she earned her master’s degree from Wichita State University in 1977.

They made their home for 38 years on the farm where Gerald was born, before moving into Clearwater in October 1986. Mr. Corr passed away March 26, 1991.

Dorothy was a member and actively involved with First Baptist Church of Clearwater. She was the church secretary for 20-plus years, a Sunday school teacher, and a youth leader. She was involved in Kansas-NEA, Goddard Education Association, Gold Star Mothers, Order of Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma International.

Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 10, at First Baptist Church, Clearwater. Memorials have been established in her name with Clearwater Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 453, Clearwater, KS 67026 or Clearwater Cemetery, 129 E. Ross, Clearwater, KS 67026. Interment was in Clearwater Cemetery.

In addition to her husband, Gerald, she was preceded in death by a son, Clifford who was killed in Vietnam on March 28, 1971; brothers, Lloyd, Ray, and Don; and sister, Margaret Jesseph. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Charlene Corr of Wichita, Thomas and Lisa Corr of Viola; grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney, and Brittany Corr; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Dawn Marie Northcutt

Dawn Marie (Wise) Northcutt, 43, housewife, died Friday, June 6, 2006 at Via Christi St. Francis RMC in Wichita, Kan. Funeral service was Friday, June 9, 2006 at Lanterman Funeral Home Chapel in Cheney, Kan., with Rev. Kenton D. Van, United Methodist Church of Cheney, officiating. Burial was at Pioneer cemetery in Cheney.

She was born October 21, 1962 in Wichita, Kan. to Dean Lee and Rosemarie (Shelhorn) Wise. On May 24, 1992, she was united in marriage to Brian Ray Northcutt.

Survivors include her husband Brian, of the home, mother, Rosemarie Wise of Cheney, and sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Kevin Cronkleton of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her father, Dean, and brother Scott.

Memorial has been established with Kansas Humane Society, 4218 Southeast Blvd., Wichita, KS 67210.

Lanterman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia K. Dyer

Mrs. Virginia K. Dyer, age 81, of the Blue Ridge Village community, Blue Ridge passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2006 in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Born in Mineral Bluff, Ga., she was the daughter of the late William Ervin Hampton and Lucy Dickey Hampton. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and also a member of the church choir since 1938.

She was a Sunday School teacher for 35 years, taught Bible school, and was an active member of WMU. She was a charter member of the Fannin Regional Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) where she currently served as chaplain. She was a charter member of the Merry Makers. She was a good hostess in preparation for family, children, and grandchildren, and she loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Janyce Plemmons.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years of marriage, Dale H. Dyer of Blue Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Deborah Dyer of Fayetteville, Ga., and Eric and Teresa Dyer of Jasper, Ga.,; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James Wheeler of Flanders, N.J.; brother and son-in-law, Jerry and Joyce Hampton of Blue Ridge; seven grandchildren, Dawn Dyer, Dara Dyer, Annah Dodge, Dotti Plemmons, David Wheeler, Sara Wheeler, and Marcus Dyer; one stepgrandchild, Chris Brown; two great-grandchildren, Cody Dodge, and Jake Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 30 at 2 p.m. at the Blue Ridge First Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Howell and Rev. Rodney Stamey officiating. Music was by Laura Haight, Blue Ridge First Baptist Church Choir, Debbie Jones, Imogene Stewart, and Jim Taylor. Pallbearers were Chris Brown, Kerry Plemmons, David Wheeler, Don Dyer, Greg Hampton, and Nick Dodge. Honorary pallbearers were the Fannin Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), Loyalty Sunday School Class of Blue Ridge First Baptist Church, members of Blue Ridge First Baptist WMU, and members of the Merry Makers. Interment followed in Chastain Memorial Park.

Thelma Hay

Thelma R. (Dean) Hay, age 85, of Wichita, died at her home July 5, 2006. She was a homemaker and retired co-owner of John Hay and Son Meat Processing. A Rosary was held 7 p.m. on July 6 and the funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on July 7, both at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Haysville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bland and Myrtle Dean; a brother, Herbert and sister, Dottie Weaver. She is survived by her husband, John; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom Hay of McKinney, Texas, Bob and Janet Hay of Haysville; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Joseph Reiserer, Jr. of Macomb, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Bland and Imogene Dean of Wichita; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to the St. Cecilia Catholic Church Parking Lot Fund, 1802 W. Grand Avenue, Haysville, KS 67060.

Michelle Medley

Michelle Lynn Medley, 22, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 5, 2006. A funeral service was held Monday at the Glenn Park Christian Church, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Benjamin Lasswell. Survivors include: parents, Gary and Hilda Medley, Goddard; sister, Elizabeth and husband, Ian Perigo, Valley Center; grandparents, Luther and Bonnie Medley, Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Alverta Lasswell, Aurora, Mo.

Memorials may be made to the Kansas Humane Society.

Services were handled by Broadway Mortuary.

Raymond R. Peterson

Raymond R. Peterson, 63, of Wichita, died Monday, July 10, 2006.

Survivors include: brothers and wives, Marcene and Joy Peterson of Clearwater, Claude W. and Carolyn Peterson of Wichita; sisters and husbands, Lucille and L.D. Seamster of Wichita, Faye and Gib Dressor of Casper, Wyo., Nelda and Myron Croft of Wichita, and Velma L. and Donald Overeem of Wichita. He was preceded in death by father, Willard C. Peterson, mother, Katherine Peterson, sister, Phyllis Cheatum, two half brothers and one half sister.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Burial following service at Clearwater Cemetery.

Fred Gubitz

Fred F. Gubitz, age 82, life-long resident of Clearwater, died at Clearwater Retirement Community-The Manor, on Monday, August 14, 2006.

Frederick Franklin Gubitz was born June 11, 1924 in Buffville, Kan. He was the seventh of nine children born to his parents, Frederick Simon and Edith Eulalia Hoff Gubitz. Fred worked for Boeing for 36 years, retiring in 1986. In his final year before retiring, he was awarded “Employee of the Year.” He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, puzzles, and was an avid sports fan.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel. Memorials have been established in his name with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S .Market St., Wichita, KS 67202 and Alzheimer’s Association, Sunflower Chapter, 347 Laura, Wichita, KS 67211.

Mr. Gubitz was preceded in death by daughter, Lee Anne Conrady; sisters, Fern Coltrane, Ruby McNeill, Mildred Jenkins, Maybelle Miller, Mardell Gubitz, and Joyce Gubitz. He is survived by daughters, Patty (Bill) Obrock, Dodge City, and Valera (Roger) Lange, Clearwater, brother, John (Lucy) Gubitz, Haysville, Sister, Freda (Bob) Nighswonger, Springdale, Ark.; grandchildren, Angela (Nathan) Fletcher, Penny Bailey, Brad Reece, Derek, Craig, and Rebecca Elliott, Mike (Dawn) Cornejo, and Toni (Derek) O’Brien; great-grandchildren, Damon, Brandon, Sebastion Fletcher, Lyle Cornejo, Brittany Blaine and Cade O’Brien, and many nieces and nephews.

Frieda Koenigs

Frieda M. Koenigs, 85, retired Duckwall’s clerk, Goddard Librarian, passed away August 13, 2006.

Visitation was 1-6 p.m., Rosary was at 7 p.m. Tuesday August 15, both at Hillside Funeral Home West. Mass was 10 a.m. Wednesday August 16, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Goddard.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ollie Koenigs and a brother, Edwin Ricken. Survivors include son, Gerald “Gary” (Jacque) Koenigs, Goddard; daughters Nancy (Phil) Harris, Haysville, Betty White, Jupiter, Fla.; brothers, Willie (Dolores) Ricken, Garden Plain, Vincent (Kathy) Ricken, Wichita; sisters, Grace (Joe) Doss, Garden Plain, Louise Berndsen, Wichita; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to: Church of the Holy Spirit (Building Fund) or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita KS 67202. Hillside Funeral Home West was in charge of arrangements.

Dianne Metzen

Dianne K. (Wolke) Metzen, age 62, homemaker and Syls Catering employee, died August 7, 2006. Rosary was Wednesday, August 9 at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and service was August 10 at 10:30 a.m. both at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain, Kan., with Father David Linnebur officiating. Interment was at St. Anthony Cemetery, Garden Plain.

She was born July 2, 1944 at Conway Springs, Kan., the daughter of George and Bernetta Hommertzheim Wolke. On Nov. 7, 1964 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Metzen. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include husband, LeRoy Metzen, Garden Plain; daughters Christy (Kurt) May, Garden Plain, Roxane Metzen, Wichita; brothers LeRoy (Betty) Wolke, Gary (Jan) Wolke all of Conway Springs; sisters Shirley Ann Noonan, Burlingame, Kan., Darlene (Marvin) Zoglman, Cheney, Kan., Joyce (Glen) Mourning, Viola, Kan., three grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Victory in the Valley. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain, was in charge of arrangements.

Amelia Sakis

Amelia Elizabeth (Fisher) Sakis, 90, died Thursday, August 10, 2006. Rosary was Sunday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass was Monday, August 14, at 10:30 a.m., both at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain.

Amelia was born in Garden Plain on April 11, 1916, the daughter of the late Emil and Clara (Buscher) Fisher. On August 16, 1941, she married Tony Sakis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, daughter, Sylvia Pinaire, brothers, Adrian E., Omer, Jim and Adrian J., and sister, Maxine.

Survivors include brothers, Marc Fisher and Dan (Myrtle) Fisher, both of Wichita, and Vince Fisher of Garden Plain; sisters, Patty Renner and Joan (Slivy) Stuhlsatz, and sister-in-law Mary Kay Fisher, all of Garden Plain; children, Rosemary/Mary Barbara Sakis of Ft. Worth, Texas, Kathy Bridges Otoupal of Carlsbad, N.M., Tony Joe Sakis of Palmer, Ark., Paul (Kathleen) Sakis of Meade, Kan., Gloria (Dennis) Mosebey of Emporia, Kan., Don (Beverly) Sakis of Palmer, Ark., Evelyn (Chris) Cranmer of Wichita, and son-in-law Fred Pinaire of Derby, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with St. Anthony Pro-Life Outreach, Garden Plain. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain, was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Blasi

Vernon J. Blasi, 79, Blasi Tire and Campground owner, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Rosary was Friday, August 18 at 7 p.m. and service was Saturday, August 19, at 1 p.m., both at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Schulte.

He was preceded in death by son, Kenneth; daughter, Pamela Blasi-Martin; brothers, Floyd, Richard, and Daniel; sister, Diann Dye.

Survivors include wife, Theresa; children and spouses, Thomas and Carrie Blasi, Mary Ann and David Westbrook, all of Goddard, Stan and Shelly Blasi of Burrton, Steven Blasi, Linda and James Walburn, all of Wichita, Rebecca and James Sheets of McPherson, Michael and Emy Blasi of Cheney; brothers, Alvin, James, Franklin, Ronald, and Paul, all of Wichita; sisters, Clarentine Tasset of Pratt, Thelma Schulte, Patricia Herron, and Betty Lagaly, all of Wichita, Doris Werbach of Denver, Colo., Joan Kelley of Haven, June Staab of Longmont, Colo., 21 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Memorials established with St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 11000 SW Blvd., Wichita, KS 67215 and Hospice Care of Kansas, 3241 E. Victor Pl., Wichita, KS 67208.

Ann Jean Bonnici

Ann Jean Bonnici, 93, retired office nurse of 37 years for Dr. James Beaver, died, Aug. 19, 2006. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland.

A rosary was held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Services were Wednesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Haysville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; brothers, Victor Vandermotten, William Vandermotten; sister, Frances Murray. She is survived by daughter, Kathleen (Paul) Porsch, Wichita; son, Charles (Suzann) Bonnici, Ortonville, Mich.; brothers, Roderick Vandermotten, Ft. Wayne, Ind., John Vandermotten, Salina; sister Ann Berntsen, South Bend, Ind.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with St. Cecilia Catholic Church Building Fund, 1802 W. Grand Ave., Haysville, KS 67060.

Nellie F. Chance

Nellie F. Chance, 84, passed away on July 29, 2006.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at the Wilmore Federated Church, Wilmore, Kan., with the Rev. A. Wayne Riggs officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Leo R. Chance; son and daughter-in-law, Steven R. and Jo Ann Chance of Cheney, Kan.; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Wayne Riggs of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Lodema Dyche of Pratt, Kan.; and three grandchildren and their spouses, Raymond and Lorra Chance, Robin and Andy Janzen, and Damon and Jena Riggs.
