Bernard Lee (Barney) Cohee, age 92, of Brainerd, Minnesota, formerly of Linn County, passed away on June 12, 2012. He was born on December 31, 1919 at Blair, Oklahoma the son of Edward and Juliann Cox Cohee. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II serving his country for five and one- half years. He spent most of his working career in the General Service Administration as a contractor and inspector for the United States Government. He lived with his parents and sisters in Blair, Oklahoma, Independence, Missouri, Stanley, Kansas, Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Lee's Summit, Missouri and finally at Brainerd. He was a member of the American Legion, loved to coach baseball, fish and restore antiques, which he did for seventeen years after retirement. He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward and Leonard. He is survived by a son, Steve Cohee, daughter, Linda Cohee, sister, Della Wade, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 2 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to service at the funeral home. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel.

Betty Louise Johnson, 82, of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at her home. She was born September 3, 1929 in Pleasanton, Kansas, the daughter of William L. and Noma E. Gilmore Umphenour. Betty graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1946. Betty worked for Lock Tite/ Perma Tex prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Laborers Union Local #42. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lee and Eugene Umphenou; two sisters, Marjorie Black and Ella Holsman and a great granddaughter, Destiny. Survivors include two sons; Bill Johnson and Terry Johnson; two daughters; Willetta Johnson and Susan Johnson; one sister, Mildred Perkins; nine grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Interment will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.

Brandon Michael Workman, age 25, formerly of Mound City, Kansas died Friday June 8, 2012. He was born April 10, 1987 at Kansas City, Kansas the son of Michael and Nancy Hobbs Workman. He graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in the Class of 2005. He is survived by his father, Michael Workman and Kathy of Mound City, mother, Nancy Butler of Pleasanton, Kansas, fiancé, Ashley Finfrock, son, Brendyn Workman, daughter Brooklyn Mae Workman, brothers, Douglas Workman and Steven Butler Jr., sisters: Amber Dembkowski, Courtney Mell, Meghan Butler, Madison Butler and Darcy Workman, paternal grandparents, Henry and Barbara Workman, and maternal grandmother, Nancy Decker.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Mound City Christian Church. Burial will be in the Curry Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. The family has established a memorial fund for Brandon’s children. Curtis L. (Curt) Heide, age 74, LaCygne, Kansas died Wednesday June 6, 2012 at Miami County Medical Center. He was born on November 9, 1937 at Jeanette, Pennsylvania the son of Curtis E. and Ruth Kepple Heide. Curt had schooling Open Bible College, enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, and attended Cross Point Assembly of God. Family and work ethic were very important to Curt. Curt is survived by his wife, Pat, whom he spent forty-seven years with, three sons, Curt D. Heide of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Leon Heide and Mary of LaCygne, Kansas, and Brad Heide and Jenny of LaCygne, a daughter, Darla Christensen of LaCygne, a sister Evelyn Spiker of Council Bluffs and six grandchildren: Amanda, Katelyn, Brett, Maci, Liza, and Brock.
Memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, LaCygne Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM, Friday June 8, at the LaCygne Chapel. Myrle Dean Purdy, age 78, of Pleasanton, Kansas died Sunday May 27, 2012 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehab. She was born at Bolivar, Missouri on March 10, 1934, the daughter of Roma and Elsie Stewart Neal. She worked as a waitress and cleaned several businesses in the Pleasanton area. She married
Leslie Mincks and to this union eight children were born. She later married
Jerry Purdy. Myrle was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Mincks and four brothers: Arichie Neal, Billy Dale Neal, Billy Edward Neal, and Sterling Hill. She is survived by her husband Jerry Purdy of Pleasanton, seven sons: Dale Mincks and Kathy, Leslie Mincks and Debbie, Jimmy Mincks and Lisa, Charles Mincks and Melissa, Weslie Mincks and Claire, Robert Purdy and Susan, and Shane Mincks; five daughters: Donna Jones and Ronnie, Rita Struble and Mike, Shonna Looney and Danny, Carol Huff and Vonda Hammon, four sisters: Mary Laxton, Mary Jane Cantwell, Shirley Pate, Joella Ashlock, two brothers, Donald Neal and David Hill, thirty-six grand, fifty-seven great grand, and four great great grandchildren.

Cora Esther Foster, 78, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born October 20, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Wesley W. and Eula Gladys Doughtry Sanford. Cora worked as a nurse in the Kansas City area for a number of years. Cora loved her family and children. She enjoyed doing crafts, especially at Christmas and loved making candy and playing Bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Reece and Clarence Sanford and two sisters, Donna O’Brien and Nora Huckaby. Survivors include her companion, Bud Brown; one son, Larry Hank; three brothers, Wesley Sanford, James Sims and Gary Sims; two sisters, Gladys Naugle and Rosemary Post; two grandchildren; Andrea Stamp and Ashley Luxner, several adopted grandchildren, including Megan Zook and Tammy Flores; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Interment will be in the Prescott Cemetery.

Francis Elmer Lindell, age 70, Pleasanton, Kansas died Sunday May 20, 2012 as the result of a tractor accident. He was born on June 9, 1941 at Fort Scott, Kansas the son of Elmer and Ada Goodenough Lindell. He graduated from Pleasanton High School and attended Kansas State University. He married
Donna Ary who peceded him in death on February 28, 2005. He later married
Nancy Benedict. Francis was a member of the First Christian Church, Pleasanton and also attended the Hammond United Methodist Church. He served on the Linn County Fair Board, as a 4H Leader and was a member of the KLA. He is survived by his wife Nancy of the home, two sons, Scott Lindell of Pleasanton and Jim Lindell and Stacie of Conyers, Georgia, a daughter Terese Crouse and Chad of BelAire, Kansas, a step daughter Janna Cole and Jim of Gridley, Kansas, two brothers, Charles Lindell and Doris and Vernon Lindell and Roberta, a sister, Ruth Winterscheid and Gerald, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Littell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the Pleasanton Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Francis Lindell Memorial Fund.

Floyd Edward Bardwell, age 78 of Linn Valley, Kansas formerly of Shawnee, Kansas died Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Louisburg care center. He was born on October 31, 1933 at Olean Missouri the son of Frank and Pearl Bond Bardwell. Floyd served his country with the United States Air Force. Floyd Married Edna Mae Silliman, she preceded in him in death. He then married
Shirley Gillum on July 19, 1980. He worked in the grocery Industry for several different grocery stores. He was a member of the Linn Valley Community Church, he was an avoid sports fan and especially like to golf and fish. Also preceding in him death are his parents, a brother Robert Bardwell, and a sister Ethel Sutherland. Survivors include his wife Shirley of La Cygne, Kansas, two sons; Bruce Bardwell of Overland Park, Kansas and Steve Martin of Lenexa, Kansas, two daughters Cheryl Pain of Thornton, Colorado and Pamela Johnson of Lake of The Ozark, Missouri, a brother Frank Bardwell of Prairie Village, Kansas, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday May 22, 2012 at the Linn Valley Community Church at Linn Valley, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 Am to service time at the Church. James Ross Dunn

James Ross Dunn, 83, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born January 21, 1921 at Houston, Missouri the son of Alva and Julia Baker Dunn. He married
Louise Parascondola on November 21, 1952 at Dwight, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Battery B 862nd Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the European Theatre with the United States Army and was awarded five bronze stars. Following the war,he worked for Midwestern Construction Company as a welder and later advanced to superintendent in the pipeline industry. In 1963, with Eugene Staton, he formed a company called, Midway Construction Company. He remained with this company as director and president until 1970. He then started Action Excavation and Action Construction Company in 1983. He sold this company and founded Action Pipeline Construction Company in 1990.Jim received the honor of being inducted into the Pipeliner's Hall of Fame in Houston, Texas at the age of 71. He was an entrepreneur in area real estate and automobile businesses. Jim was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Scott, Kansas; VFW, Masonic Lodge and OES of Pleasanton, Mirza Temple and past member of Shrine Mounted Patrol; American Legion, Mound City, Kansas; the Pipliner's Local #798 and the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Dunn and three sisters; Bernie Meirer, Johnnie June Teel and Hattie Wayne. Survivors include his wife, Louise of Pleasanton, Kansas; one son, James Dunn Jr. of Baudette, Minnesota; one daughter, Anita Eakins of Stilwell, Kansas; one brother, Alva Dunn Jr. of Boring,Oregon; two sisters, Viola Shorter of Lansing, Kansas and Peggy Brownback of Omaha, Nebraska and five grandchildren.

Marjorie Faye Spillman, 84, of Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, formerly of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, January 24, 2005. She was born January 23, 1921 at Elsmore, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Anna Hampton Stanley. Marjorie graduated from Blue Mound High School. She married
Ray Spillman in 1938. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Orville Edward and two sisters, Bernice Hutchinson and Myrtle Hibbs. Survivors include two sons, Larry Spillman of Louisburg, Kansas and Neal Spillman of Iola, Kansas; one daughter, Connie Cox of Mound City, Kansas; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Thomas E. Reed who preceded her in death in 1955. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton. Preceding her in death were two daughters, Margaret Reed and Mary Heinz and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons; Tom Reed and wife, Annette of Pleasanton, Kansas and Ronald Reed, also of Pleasanton; one daughter, June Edgar of Austin, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She attended the Wall Street Church in Mound City, Kansas and was a member of the P.T.G.., Parker, Kansas. Karen was a volunteer firefighter with the Linn County Rural Fire Department Station #930. She was preceded in death by her father, Alva West. Survivors include her husband, John of the home; two daughters, Tara and Angela Morse; her mother, Betty Green of Osawatomie, Kansas; four brothers; Donald L. West of Springfield, Missouri, Phillip West of Overland Park, Kansas, Richard D. West of Kansas City, Missouri and Mark West of Ozark, Missouri and two sisters, Judith Bennett of Fort Worth, Texas and Patricia Hargrove of Lone Jack, Missouri.

to Reverend Cecil M. Orr on December 12, 1933 at Mound City. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1976. She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death also by two sons; Roger and Marian Orr and one brother, Marvin Cox. Survivors include three sons; Marvin Orr of Gladstone, Missouri, Don Orr of Hamilton, Montana and Herb Orr of Arlington, Texas; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Ruby Lee Shaw, 86, of Mound City, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Medicalodge Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born May 29, 1918 in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Earl and Edna Boren Gatlin. She was married
to Chester Shaw in 1938 at the Linn County Court House. Ruby was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton, Kansas where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the choir. She was also a member of the Linn County Historical Society and helped form the Linn County Concern. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cora Lee and two sisters, Marie Hamilton and Esther Denny. Survivors include her husband, Chester"Chet" Shaw, Mound City, Kansas; one son, Ernest Lee Shaw and wife, Joyce of Lawrence, Kansas; one grandson, Troy Shaw and his fiance, Jamie; three sisters, Laveta Ward of Cheney, Kansas; Thelma Arbogast of Kansas City, Kansas and Arlene Stark of San Jose, California.

Lois Faye Wurtz, 73, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born December 16, 1931 in Johnson County, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Iva Ealy Karstetter. She graduated from Spring Hill High School and in 1950 she married
Norman Minden. To this union three sons and one daughter were born; Stanley Minden of Granger, Indiana, Mark Minden of Paola, Kansas, Bradley Minden of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda Newton of Houston, Texas. They all survive her. She later married
Willie Wurtz in 1975. Lois was a member of the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church. She and Willlie loved to travel and she enjoyed her flowers. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Orville and Don Karstetter. Survivors also include her husband, Willie of Pleasanton, Kansas; three step-sons, Scott Wurtz of Blue Springs, Missouri, Alan Wurtz of Mesa, Arizona and Jim Wurtz of Paola, Kansas; two step-daughters, Susan Willard of Fort Scott, Kansas and Geneva Heckler of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Ray Karstetter of Harrisonville, Missouri; two sisters, Doris Prothe of Paola, Kansas and Dorothy Guetterman of Bucyrus, Kansas; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren.
Ellen Lucille DeMott

Ellen Lucille DeMott, 93, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born September 18, 1911, south of Pleasanton, Kansas on what is now known as the site of the "Battle of Mine Creek". She was the daughter of Emmit and Eulah Lou Blount Peare. Ellen attended grade school at Antioch School and later attended high school in Pleasanton. She married
Claude Gentry DeMott at Girard, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1985. Although Ellen had no children, she always enjoyed children very much. She and her husband resided all of their lives in and around Pleasanton, with the exception of ten months in Overland Park, Kansas. Ellen worked for Ed Hoag in his clothing store and later she worked for 12 years for Kathryn Lhuillier in the Variety Store. She was a member of the William Creekmore Chapter as long as it was in existence and a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton since 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, R.J. Peare and one sister,Virginia Peare. Survivors include one sister, Kathryn Peare Hayes of Lee's Summit, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews and many friends.

Donna Lindell, 63, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Wichita, Kansas. She was born February 11, 1942 in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of John and Loraine Hawley Ary. She graduated from high school at Greensburg, Kansas, attended Dodge City Community College and received her Bachelor's and Masters Degrees from Emporia State University. She married
Francis Lindell on June 4, 1966. She was High School Librarian for the Prairie View Kansas School District. Donna was a member of the First Christian Church of Pleasanton. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Mark Ary. Survivors include her husband, Francis of Pleasanton, Kansas; two sons, Scott Lindell of Pleasanton, Kansas and Jim Lindell and wife, Stacie of Overland Park, Kansas; one daughter, Terese Crouse and husband, Chad of Bel Aire, Kansas; four brothers, Noel Ary of Dodge City, Kansas; her twin brother, Dennis Ary of Vian, Oklahoma; Darrel Ary of Greensburg, Kansas and Max Ary of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; Skyelyn, Stephen and Savannah Crouse and Madeline Lindell.

Gorodess and Opal E. (Phillips) Phillips. He was a safety engineer for Home Insurance and a served with the United States Army during World War II. He married
Mary Forshay on June 29, 1946 at Des Moines, Iowa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons F. Gorodess "Scoop" Phillips III, of Overland Park, Kansas; James D. Phillips of San Francisco, California and Major Mark E. Phillips and wife, Terri of Alexandria, Virginia; one grandson, Steven Phillips and two sisters, Dianne Kelley of Phoenix, Arizona and Barbara Rusk of Aimes, Iowa.
