October 28, 1916 in Imperial, NE the daughter of Charles Edward and Mary Eunice (Speer) Travis. She attended Graceland College and graduated from Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing. Pearl worked as a school nurse for the Independence School District from 1967 to 1974. She was a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch. She enjoyed sewing, toll painting and being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Davies; daughter, Nan Kathleen Davies; eight brothers; three sisters. Survivors include her sons, John Travis Davies and wife Betty; Cris Davies and wife Kathy; daughter, Linda Miller and husband Dale; grandchildren, Sandra Davies, Travis Davies, Bret Curtis, Chad Curtis, Nanette Curtis-Walton, Melissa Mizell, Adam Davies and Justin Davies and six great grandchildren; Doris Caster, cousin and special long- time friend. Landis Adams, 41, Independence, Mo., passed away January 3, 2012. Sept. 6, 1970, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on Oct. 31, 1974. He was the Poster Child for the National Leukemia Society from 1975-1977. With God's help he overcame that battle and lived the rest of his life cancer free. Apart from a short time spent in Colorado, where he enjoyed the mountains and fresh air, he lived his life in the Independence area. He was very creative and had a great sense of humor. Landis loved the outdoors: fishing, hiking, traveling and camping. He also enjoyed playing guitar and cooking. Barbequing was his specialty. Landis always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his daughter, Timberley. They spent many hours playing games, fishing and laughing together. She was "Daddy's Girl." Being young at heart, he also enjoyed entertaining his niece and nephew. They loved their Uncle Landis. He was his mother's joy and her best friend. Telephone conversations with her always ended in the words, "I love you." Landis was preceded in death by his father, Michael Sutton; sister, Kendra Sutton; grandmother, Almeda Foster; and uncle, Kenneth Foster. He is survived by his daughter and best friend, Timberley Allen; parents, Jerry and Alreda Adams; sister, Angelynn Presley; niece, Larissa; nephew, Kyler Presley; grandfather, Tommie Foster; and uncle, Donald Foster. Landis was greatly loved and will be remembered by all. He will always be alive in our hearts. Betty Maxine Cummings, 87, went to be with the Lord January 5, 2012, at Olathe Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cummings; two daughters, Jamie "Maxine" Becker and Shirley Ruud. Betty is survived by daughter, Carolyn Sue Paul and husband Bob of Olathe, Kan., and son, William H. Cummings, Jr., and wife Terry of Smithville, Mo. in Boliver, Mo., on May 2, 1920, to Fred and Sophia Pecha. Before retirement, Lena worked for many years at Strasser Hardware and as a seamstress, making custom curtains and draperies. Lena loved to sew and work in her yard and garden, growing flowers and vegetables. She and her husband, Gene loved to fish and camp in their motor home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Eugene Dulin, brother, Bill "Willie" Pecha and three sisters, Rosie Donaldson, Sophie Schmidtlein and Bessie Walden. She is survived by her sister, Helen Grantham and husband Si of Grand Junction, Colo., Helen's daughter, Theresa Smatla (Paul) and their two children, Helen's son, Jody Grantham and his two children; cousin, Pat Steele of Stayton, Ore., and nephew, Jim Pecha of Oroville, Calif. She is also survived by some of her husband's family, caring neighbors and her devoted extended Stirling family who has considered Lena as part of their family since 1961. Angelica Gutierrez, our wonderful mother, grandmother, and close friend passed away January 4, 2012, with her family by her side in Shawnee Mission, Kan. She was born
Sept. 25, 1927, in Valle de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico. Since 1974 she has called Kansas City her home. Angelica was preceded in death by her husband Eulalio Gutierrez and her daughter, Emma Medrano and is survived by her brother, Jesus Hernandez and her kids, Ismael Gutierrez, Saul Gutierrez, Elva Solis, Adela Gutierrez, Angie Gutierrez, Imelda Osborn, Sarah Quiroga and mother-in-law to Santos Gutierrez, Mike Quiroga, Troy Osborn. She was Mom to eight, grandmother to 21, great grandma to 33, great-great grandma to four, and a kind, respected friend to all. She raised her eight children with unconditional love and a determined belief that Jehovah would prosper and bless her for her faithfulness. This He did. Mom was a devoted Jehovah Witness and attended the Kingdom Hall in Shawnee. We would like to thank all the many kind people who gave selfless service to our mother throughout her life and especially those who have helped, encouraged, and kept her in their prayers while she fought a valiant battle with cancer. Our gratitude to the kind and attentive medical staff at Shawnee Mission Hospital and Heartland Hospice in Shawnee.
