SAM COMO
Sam Como, 81, formerly of Kansas City, MO passed away July 11, 2011. Visitation will be Friday, July 15th at the McGilley Antioch Chapel from 6:00- 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 16th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with burial following at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and the Sister Servants of Mary. Sam graduated from De LaSalle High School with honors and later graduated from The Cooper Union University of New York. He was the president and owner of Sigma Labs in New York. Sam loved to travel and lived in England for two years. Sam was an avid supporter of the Museum of Arts, a tennis player and a fan who watched championship games year round. Sam also loved to read. He was well known to his family and friends as "Dr. Como" because of his extensive knowledge of medicine. Sam was a loving brother and uncle who was devoted to his family and friends and loved life. His infectious smile and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all of us. His family would like to thank his caregivers, Teresa, Krystyna and Rasarda. Sam was preceded in death by his mother and father, Albert and Mary Como, brothers, Christopher, Santo and Victor Como, and sisters, Josephine DeAngelis, Minnie Covey and Tina McKenzie. He is survived by a sister Lena Como, and nieces and nephews, Mary and Almerigo Borgo, Charles Covey, Jackie Covey, Mary Closser, Sandy DiGiovanni, Carol Puttroff and Zeb DeAngelis; and a dear cousin Joe Castrianni; great nieces and nephews, Mary Covey, Natalie and James Allen, Charlie Covey, Dan Closser, Mark and Charlene Covey, Matthew Puttroff, Keith Puttroff, Angela Borgo, Albert and Gabriella Borgo, Bill and Gabbi Borgo, Joe and Sangetta Borgo, Louie and Michelle Borgo; and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. El Doris Curry, 86, of Kansas City, MO passed away July 13, 2011 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Memorial services will be at 6:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2011 at DW Newcomers Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 - 6 PM Monday at the funeral home. El Doris was born
in Claflin, KS and had lived in the greater Kansas City area most of her life. During WW II she helped assemble bombers at the Fairfax plant and participated in the USO. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Ralston-Purina for several years, retiring in 1966. El Doris was a member of the Teetering Rocks HOA, the Kansas City Mustang Club and the Officer's Club at Richards Gebaur Air Force base. She enjoyed membership in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd Curry; her mother, Katie Durbrough; her brother, Milton Gagelman and a sister, Elsie Fry. Melissa Ann Blevins-Dodson Allwood, 40, formerly of Maysville, was born
June 27, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William David Blevins and Sharon Joeline Dodson, and passed away September 24, 2011 in St. Joseph. Missy moved to Maysville at age 10 and was a 1989 Class Graduate of Maysville High School. On June 17, 1995 Missy and Richard Ervin Allwood were united in marriage at the First Christian Church of Maysville. She was involved with the Girl Scouts for almost 20 years and was a Leader/Coordinator and loved camping, outdoors, animals, and traveling. Missy was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, aunt, and sister. She is preceded in death by her father; step father, James Wilbur Dodson; Uncle, George E. Thacker. Survivors include husband, Richie Allwood, of the home; mother, Sharon Dodson, Maysville; three children: Austin Blevins (Miranda), Cameron, and Jordan & Erin Allwood, of the home; two sisters, Shanna Palmer (Gary), Maysville, and Lavida Blevins, Independence, MO; one grand-daughter, Sophia Layne Blevins, Cameron; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Billy Howard Beard on August 23, 1968 in Odessa. Mrs. Beard had been the Manager of the Osh-Kosh clothing store in Odessa until it closed. Mrs. Beard was a member of St. George Catholic Church and Altar Society. Survivors include her husband, Bill, of the home. There are two sons, Billy Beard and wife Johnna, and Jim Beard and wife, Holly, all of Odessa. There are four granddaughters, Morgan, Sarah, Aubrey, and Ryann. Iven Hill Chesnut on January 12, 1938 in St. Joseph, MO. She loved being a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, and shopping. Fay was also a sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching Royals baseball. She lived on the family farm until the death of her husband in 1979, when she moved to University Towers in Kansas City; and finally to Kendallwood Hills, in Kansas City. Fay was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Iven; her daughter, Mary Lynn Griggs; her brother, J.P. Downing; and her sisters, Mildred Elgin, Nan Moore, and Dorothy Beck. Norma Christine Cox, 99, passed away September 17, 2011 at Wilshire Care Center in Lee's Summit, MO. Richard E. Jacobs, 69, of Kansas City, Kan., went to be with the Lord September 23, 2011. Richard was born
to Clarence and Ileane Jacobs March 7, 1942. He worked several years for Central Paper Box and Western Container as a printer and supervisor before retirement in 2009. He was an active member of Victory Baptist Church, Tonganoxie, Kan. Richard enjoyed times spent with his children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters. He enjoyed remodeling houses, building decks and hunting. NANCY L. BOLIN
Nancy L. Bolin, 63, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at her home in Shawnee. She was born
on December 14, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas and lived in Wyandotte County most of her life. She graduated from Washington High School in 1965 and received Emergency Medical Technician certification in 1979, serving with the Huckabee Ambulance Co. Nancy then joined the Telecommunications staff at Providence Medical Center where she worked until her medical retirement in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burnell and Nellie Childers, and is survived by her husband, David H Bolin, sons Ronald of K.C.K. and Gerald of Lebanon, Illinois and five beloved grandchildren. Her brother, Ronald B Childers of Arlington, Texas, is also left to remember her as are her many cousins, nieces and nephews. Nancy was supremely caring and compassionate, devoted to her family and friends, and always basking in the affection of the many dogs and cats she loved throughout her life. She loved her God and demonstrated that love in the attention and care she gave to everyone she dealt with in either her personal or professional life. Her smile, rich voice, and beautiful blue eyes will be remembered long after the tears at her passing have dried in the eyes of those who loved her. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired out of the service as a Captain. Mr. Brents was an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance in Independence, MO for 37 years before his retirement. He was past president of the Independence Evening Sertoma, a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a Mason.
