Mary Fisher
Mary Marguerite Frey Fisher, 88, of Dodge City, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
She was born Aug. 17, 1914, at Garden City, the daughter of Fred Herman and Edna Belle Moody Frey. She attended high school in Garden City and attended Southwestern Bible College in Enid, Okla.
A Dodge City resident for 58 years, moving from Bakersfield, Calif., she was a homemaker. She was active in Girls Scouts and her teaching duties at First Christian Church and also taught the Menninger Bible Class for several years. She was a member of the Win-A-Couple Class at her church, Atheneum Study Club and Hipatia Club. Her favorite pastime was reading.
While working in Bakersfield, she met Morton Fisher. They were married Feb. 8, 1941. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Frey; and two sisters, Geraldine Frey Hansen and Gladys Frey Richards.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Kae Bunyan of Dodge City; two sisters, Martha Canaday of Enid, and Alma Pierce of Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Fisher's life will begin at 10 a.m. April 11 at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Dr. Burton Pierce officiating.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 9 and 10 at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Floyd and Sue Rice Mission Work in Guatemala or the Ford County Humane Society, both in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Clyde Green
Funeral for Clyde Green, 76, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Mr. Green died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at his home in Garden City.
He was born May 15, 1926, at Monte Vista, Colo., the son of Everett Anderson and Winsome Adele Hart Green. The family moved to Lakin when he was a child, and he attended Lakin schools, graduating from Lakin High School in 1944.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, serving in the 101st Airborne and the 327th Airborne Glider Unit. After the service, he moved to Garden City.
Mr. Green worked for several years as a mechanic at Burtis Motors before becoming a self-employed mechanic, owning and operating G&G Auto Repair. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, woodcrafting and spending time with his grandchildren.
On March 24, 1946, he married Delma Lee Farnsworth at Dodge City. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Dennis and Mike Green, and a daughter, Sondra Owings, all of Garden City; a brother, Marvin Green of Garden City; three sisters, Lola Norton and Wanda Jo Craig, both of Garden City, and Lois Humphreys of Santa Ana, Calif.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Winona M. Breitkreutz.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Ora Mae Evinger
Ora Mae Evinger, 85, of Dodge City, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.
She was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Newton County, Mo., the daughter of George and Carrie Smith Martin.
An Ingalls resident since 1952, she moved to Dodge City in October 1999. She was a cook at the Chaparral Restaurant for 25 years, retiring in 1995, and was a member of Ingalls Community Bible Church.
On June 5, 1946, she married Jack Evinger at Columbus, Mo. He died Sept. 19, 1966. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bob Martin; two brothers, Joe and Pete Martin; and two sisters, Cordie Smith and Eula Geller.
She is survived by four sons, David Evinger of Great Bend, Daniel Evinger of Cimarron, Dwight and Jerome Evinger, both of Dodge City; two daughters, Susan Wilson of Garden City, and Beverly Burkhart of Dodge City; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ingalls Community Bible Church, with the Rev. Mike Whalen officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.
Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to Ingalls Community Bible Church or the Good Samaritan Center, both in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Donald Samuel Keller
Graveside service for Donald Samuel Keller, 73, a former Garden City resident, is scheduled for Wednesday at Pilot Point (Texas) Community Cemetery
in Denton County.
Mr. Keller died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Denton, Texas.
He was born Aug. 28, 1929, at Garden City, the son of Donald L. and Margaret R. Hibbs Keller.
Mr. Keller was a rancher and had worked for Total Petroleum Inc., in Hutchinson for 13 years. He was a member of the Methodist faith and belonged to Tyrian Lodge No. 246 AF & AM of Garden City. He earned the honor of All Around Cowboy with the Garden City Riding Club in 1949.
On Aug. 9, 1976, he married Helen M. Eck at Greeley, Colo. She survives. He also is survived by two daughters, Kathy A. Meece of Las Vegas, and Alicia D. Beat of Norman, Okla.; two sons, Donald M. Keller of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kevin C. Beat of Cunningham; six grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanine Holovach of Sublette.

Jeffrey Howard Mills
ROLLA - Funeral for Jeffrey Howard Mills, 39, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rolla High School's gymnasium, with Dr. Danny Joiner officiating. Burial will be in Rolla Cemetery.
Mr. Mills died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born Nov. 7, 1963, at Perryton, Texas, the son of Morland S. and Connie J. Slaughter Mills. He spent his early years at Balko, Okla., where he graduated from Balko High School in 1982. He later attended Tabor College at Hillsboro, where he played college football. He then attended Panhandle State University of Goodwell, Okla., where he earned his bachelor degrees in agricultural business and speech.
He married Carrie Lynn Easterwood on Jan. 28, 1989, at Rolla. They lived in Texhoma, Okla., for two years, in Liberal for seven years, and moved to Rolla in 2001.
Mr. Mills was employed as a truck driver for Western Marketing Inc., and also worked part time as a farmer on his wife's family farm. He was a member of Balko Baptist Church and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church at Rolla. His special interests included spending time with his family and his musical talent as a drummer in the Clear Creek Band.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth JoLynn Mills and Sadie Helan Mills, and a son, Ross Howard Mills, all of the home; his parents of Beaver, Okla.; two brothers, Larry Mills of Norton, and Tim Mills of Ada, Okla.; and a sister, Vicki Yates of Seminole, Okla. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Helan Mills, and Howard and Florence Slaughter.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Jeff H. Mills Children's College Fund, in care of the funeral home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
Frank J. Barker
Frank J. Barker, 75, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at his home in Garden City.
He was born July 17, 1927, at Marion, the son of Frank and Susie B. Schroeder Barker.
A Garden City resident since 1960, moving from El Dorado, he also had been a former resident of Madison. He worked for Phillips 66 from 1960 to 1969, ran Barker Service Station Maintenance from 1969 to 1979, was a truck driver for Permian Oil Transport from 1979 to 1990, and worked part time for Valley View Cemetery
and The Garden City Telegram.
Mr. Barker was a member of First Christian Church and Tyrian Masonic Lodge, both at Garden City, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On July 30, 1984, he married Ruby I. Knight at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Charles Barker of Garden City, and Chris Barker of Lawrence; a daughter, Cathy Kingery of Madison; a stepdaughter, Linda Kiehl of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edna Mae Barker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Miller, 91, of Garden City died Friday, May 30, 2003, at her home. Born Nov. 25, 1911, in Scott County, she was the daughter of Harvey and Minnie Finkenbinder Dague.
A resident of Garden City since 1974 after moving from Scott County, Miller was a homemaker.
She married Arthur W. Miller Feb. 17, 1935, in Scott County.
Her memberships include the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, the AARP, RSVP, the Finney County Senior Center, and the Garden Club, all of Garden City; and the Lakeview FCE of Scott County.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Miller of Coffeyville and Everett Miller of Scott City; three daughters, Pauline Dolsby of Riggins, Idaho, and Lorene Walker and Minnie Komlofske, both of Garden City; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Nancy Jane Miller; three brothers; and four sisters.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 in the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating.
Interment will be in Prairie View Church Cemetery
in Friend.
