Irene Marie Corcoran
Irene Marie Corcoran, 77, of Oberlin, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
She was born Sept. 17, 1925, at Hays, the daughter of George and Adeline Bufort Keisner. She grew up in Hays, Lexington, Neb., and Norton before moving to Oberlin in 1935. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1943.
Mrs. Corcoran owned Corcoran Furniture and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Oberlin. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards at the Golden Age Center, cooking and sewing.
On June 5, 1947, she married Joe Corcoran at Oberlin. He survives. She also is survived by a son, Mark Corcoran of Oberlin; a daughter, Cheryl Lamp of Garland, Texas; a sister, Florence Peterson of Garden City; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, George Keisner Jr. and Robert "Bob" Keisner.
Vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oberlin. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Mathew Vazhappily officiating.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place, with inurnment planned for later.

John 'Leigh' Lawson
TRIBUNE - John "Leigh" Lawson, 52, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Aug. 31, 1950, at Syracuse, the son of John J. and Ruth E. Leslie Lawson.
He graduated from Greeley County High School in 1968 and moved from Tribune to Topeka in the late 1970s. He later moved to Lawrence and then to Kansas City, Mo., where he had lived for the past 15 years.
Mr. Lawson was a telemarketer for a home improvement company. He belonged to First Baptist Church of Tribune.
Survivors include his parents, Tribune; a sister, Janette Crotinger, Tribune; a brother, Kent Lawson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. MT Monday at First Baptist Church, Tribune, with the Revs. Robert Blair and Mark Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Memorials to the John "Leigh" Lawson Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune.
Harold H. Brown
LEOTI - Funeral for Harold H. Brown, 73, of Leoti, will be 2 p.m. CST Saturday at West Bethany Free Methodist Church in Wichita County, with the Revs. Mickey McCandless and Don Johanson officiating. Burial will be in West Bethany Cemetery, Wichita County.
Mr. Brown died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
He was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Wichita County, the son of Charles E. and Addie E. Sides Brown.
A lifetime resident of Wichita County, he was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of West Bethany Free Methodist Church and the Central College Board of Trustees and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
On Aug. 9, 1949, he married Lela Mae Huntsinger at Salina. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Greg Brown of Tribune; two daughters, Kristi Peterson of Erie, Pa., and Lisa Wilson of Selkirk; three brothers, Elvin and Lloyd Brown, both of Leoti, and Charles Brown of Kent, Wash.; a sister, Ella Johanson of Wayland, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Marge Brown of Leoti; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Jan Annette; an infant sister, Carol Marie Brown; and a brother, Ervin Brown.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials to the Harold H. Brown Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Helen Sue Ward Pinegar
Helen Sue Ward Pinegar, 73, a former Garden City resident, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Topeka.
She was born Dec. 13, 1929, at Enid, Okla., the daughter of Laurence Clyde and Bernice Helen Pitman Ward. Her father was in management with the Montgomery Ward Co., so her family lived in various communities including Texarkana and Del Rio, Texas; Enid, Lawton and Okmulgee, Okla.; Kirksville, Mo.; and Garden City.
She graduated from Kirksville High School in 1947 and earned bachelor's degrees in business and health physical education at Kirksville State Teachers College in 1950. She taught high school general science and health physical education in Ottumwa, Iowa, from 1950 to 1951. During the 1950s, she served as a substitute teacher at Garden City Junior High School and was a physical education instructor at Garden City Community College from 1966 to 1967.
As a volunteer, she was involved in many school and extracurricular activities with her six children. She had been active in Girl Scouts of America for more than 50 years and was a lifetime member of the organization.
A Topeka resident since September 2001, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka. She enjoyed spending time at her vacation home in the Colorado mountains and also enjoyed live theater and musical productions.
On Oct. 28, 1951, she married James Aubrey Pinegar at Garden City. He died May 30, 1987. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Laurence Clyde Ward Jr.
She is survived by two sons, James Ward Pinegar of Mount Hope, and John David Pinegar of Topeka; four daughters, Barbara Joan Pinegar Simmons of Topeka, Sue Ann Case and Judith Joy Cornett, both of Garden City, and Mary Jane Hanano of Kamuela, Hawaii; a brother, Larry Don Ward of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister, Coleen Ruth Kinney of Norman, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Dave Sweley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Washburn Endowment Association at Topeka or the KU Endowment Association designated for the Department of Anesthesiology, Kansas City, Kan., both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Mathilda Leikam
Vigil service for Mathilda Leikam, 97, will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore. Funeral will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Henry Hildebrandt officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
Mrs. Leikam died Monday, March 31, 2003, at her home near Jetmore.
She was born Feb. 14, 1906, at Munjor, the daughter of Ludwig J. and Elizabeth Gerstner Gabel.
A lifetime resident of the Jetmore area, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both at Jetmore.
On Oct. 4, 1927, she married Jacob Leikam at Ness City. He died June 17, 1982. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Haberkorn and Lillan Rupp; and eight brothers, Isidore, Henry, Edmond, Raymond, John, Jacob, Adam and Ludwig "Shorty" Gabel.
Survivors include a son, Jacob Leikam Jr., Jetmore; five daughters, Eleanora Leikam of Alamosa, Colo., Hilda Leikam of Topeka, Velma Frank of Limon, Colo., Mildred Armstrong of Manhattan, and Joann Kammer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Catherine Harmon of Garden City; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Hospice of the Prairie, both in care of the funeral home.
Edith Agnes Lamberth
MONTEZUMA - Edith Agnes Hiser Lamberth, 93, of Montezuma, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident.
She was born Jan. 19, 1910, at Muskogee, Okla., the daughter of Jess and Tommy Kain Hiser.
In 1927, she moved from Ponca City, Okla., to Montezuma, where she resided for several years before moving to Washington and then to California in 1942. She returned to Montezuma five years ago.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lamberth loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed cooking and sewing for them. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles and gardening. She attended the Baptist Church in Oklahoma.
On Dec. 6, 1928, she married William C. Lamberth at Cimarron. He died Sept. 23, 2001. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Skip and Billy Lamberth; two sisters, Sue Ullom and Elsbeth Hiser; and a brother, Melvin Hiser.
She is survived by a daughter, Polly Allen of Campbell, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
Martin Vann
LAKIN - Martin Vann, 74, of Lakin, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born March 10, 1929, at Meade, the son of Eli Harry and Nellie Neugent Vann. He grew up in Meade and attended Meade schools. After graduating from Meade High School in 1948, he attended Fort Hays State University.
Mr. Vann lived in Fowler before moving to Lakin in 1960. A farmer and stockman, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, dancing and bowling.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Vann of Denver, and Timothy Vann of Castle Rock, Colo.; two daughters, Diane Swartzendruber of Edmond, Okla., and Linda McCormick of South Fork, Colo.; a sister, Zeeanna Hoffman of Lady Lake, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick Vann; a brother, Elwin Vann; and a sister, Lorene Cornelson.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Mike Helms officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
