Pauline E. Woolen
HUGOTON - Pauline E. Woolen, 88, of Wichita and formerly of Hugoton, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born July 24, 1914, at Cosmo, Okla., the daughter of James and Evelyn Chapee Brown.
On July 11, 1930, she married Glen D. Woolen at Richfield. He preceded her in death as did her parents and a son, Harold O. Woolen.
A homemaker, Mrs. Woolen had answered the phones for Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton for years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, David E. Woolen of Wichita, and Glen Doral Woolen of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Fund, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Albert D. Tubbs
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Albert D. Tubbs, 60, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Kerry Hookstra officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mr. Tubbs died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born May 24, 1942, at Levant, the son of Albert Wayne and Irene Stickel Tubbs.
A Scott City resident since March 1969, moving from Burlington, Colo., he was a custom harvester and mechanic. He was a member of Community Christian Church.
On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Sherrill R. O'Neal at Flagler, Colo. She survives. He also is survived by three daughters, Lynnette Robinson, Kandi Goodman and Michelle Habiger, all of Scott City; a sister, Ethel McCaffrey of Seibert, Colo.; a sister-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials to the Albert D. Tubbs Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Barbara J. Cline
Barbara J. Cline, 71, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born July 17, 1931, at Garden City, the daughter of Tommy and Lola Baker Brunker. She had lived most of her life in the area of Deerfield and Garden City, but had lived in Wellington from 1942 to 1945. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1949 and from Garden City Community College in 1951, graduating as valedictorian from both schools.
On June 3, 1951, she married Leslie Cline at Deerfield. Mrs. Cline worked at Heinemann Insurance Agency for many years before becoming part owner and changing the name to Rutter/Cline Associates Inc. She and her husband also owned Books, Etc., and the Golden Crown Gift Shop.
She was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas, Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas, Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo and AARP. She enjoyed reading, and visiting with her friends and family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Robbie Cline of Sublette; three stepsisters, Doris Zubeck of Deerfield, Juanita Peterson of Oakland, Calif., and Fern Moore of Wichita; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lola Rector; her father; her stepfather, Harley Rector; and her brother, Bobby Brunker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice or Lee Richardson Zoo, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Bill Fross
DEERFIELD - Bill Fross, 84, a former fire chief, councilman, judge and mayor of Deerfield, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Oct. 27, 1918, at Peifer, the son of Melchior and Jenny Gaschler Fross. When he was about 10, the family moved to Finney County to farm sugar beets and he attended school in Holcomb.
Mr. Fross farmed in Kearny County for about 16 years before moving to Deerfield and working as a mechanic for the Kearny County Road Department for 25 years. He then worked at Beymer Park for 13 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Deerfield, a Boy Scout leader, loved to fish and was an avid reader.
On Nov. 27, 1939, he married Dena Laura Norton at Russell Springs. She survives. He also is survived by a daughter, Ann Steele of Garden City; three sons, Frank Fross of Alvin, Neb., Robert Fross of Syracuse, and Tom Fross of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Ambrose "Shorty" Fross of Garden City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Leona Rohleder.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.

Charles B. 'Brad' Welch
LAKIN - Funeral for Charles Bradford "Brad" Welch, 55, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Mr. Welch died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Johnson City.
He was born July 11, 1947, at Independence, the son of Loren D. and Doris Elizabeth Busby Welch. He grew up in Lakin, graduated from Lakin High School in 1965 and attended Garden City Community College.
Mr. Welch served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. After his discharge, he worked as a truck driver in Luverne, Ala., and then moved to Wetumpka, Ala., to become manager of a branch of American Finance Co. He later moved to Rome, Ga., to manage the American Finance office there.
He returned to Lakin in 1976 to become the Kearny County appraiser, a position he held until 2000 when he became the county appraiser of Grant, Stanton, Haskell, Stevens and Morton counties. He also had worked the oil and gas appraisals for Hamilton, Greeley and Lane counties, and owned and operated Welch Appraisal Service.
Mr. Welch belonged to the United Methodist Church and the Emerald Masonic Lodge, both at Lakin, and was a member of the Kearny County Extension Agriculture Program Development Committee and the Kansas Institute of Certified Appraisers. He served as past president of the Kansas County Appraisers Association and of the Southwest Kansas County Appraisers Association. His special interests were fishing, golf, hunting and his Monday night bridge club.
On July 27, 1968, he married Doris Mae Eason at Goodwater, Ala.
He is survived by two daughters, Tina Davis of Baxter Springs, and Denna Welch of Lakin; his father, a brother, Brian Welch, and a sister, Denise Brink, all of Lakin; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Ivah Margaret Murray
LAKIN - Funeral for Ivah Margaret Murray, 85, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mrs. Murray died Monday, April 14, 2003, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Rooks County, the daughter of Glenn O. and Katie Armstrong Kenny, and attended schools in Sherman County.
On June 17, 1933, she married Edd D. Murray at Colby. In 1934, she and her husband moved to a farm north of Lakin. They farmed for many years before moving into Lakin in 1987. He died Jan. 16, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glenn Kenny; three sisters, Opal Wray Davis, Ola Townsend and Katie Wray; and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Murray was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and P.E.O., all at Lakin, and belonged to the North Kearny H.D.U. In 1965, she served as district aide of District No. 65 of the Kansas State Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking breads and cookies, had taught baking to 4-H clubs, and gave demonstrations to various groups and clubs. She also enjoyed embroidery, sewing and square dancing.
She is survived by four daughters, Margaret Joan Buerkle of Houston, Patricia Lou Gaylord of St. Paul, Minn., Marilyn Dell Murray of Albuquerque, N.M., and Karen K. Vincent of Lakin; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Keith Alan Richmeier
Keith Alan Richmeier, 40, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Rosary and vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. James Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Keith A. Richmeier Memorial, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Clara Lois Old
Funeral for Clara Lois Old, 82, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center. Burial will be in Yates Center Cemetery.
Mrs. Old died Monday, April 14, 2003, at her home in Yates Center.
She was born Jan. 28, 1921, at Weston, Mo., the daughter of Arthur Franklin and Nora Belle Taulbee Donovan. She grew up in Platte County, Mo., and Leavenworth County, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1940. She was then employed at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She later was awarded a scholarship to Kansas State University where she received a bachelor's degree in 1946.
Mrs. Old taught in the high school at Paxico and for 14 years in the Holcomb and Plymell school district near Garden City. She also had been employed at Patrons Bank in Olathe. After retiring in 1980, she built a home and an orchard east of Yates Center, and then moved into the city in 1991.
She was a member of the Finney County Teachers Association, Kansas State Teachers Association, American University Women, and belonged to the First Christian Church in Garden City before transferring to the Christian Church in Yates Center.
On June 14, 1947, she married Lyndell Old. He survives. She also is survived by two sons, Dr. Jerry Old of Shawnee, and Ralph Old of Wichita; a daughter, Lois Arlene Doyle of Peoria, Ill.; two brothers, Warren and Jimmie Donovan, and a sister, Marie Musselman, all of Kansas City, Kan.; two granddaughters; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and one grandson, Brandon Old.
