Gregorio 'Greg' Martinez Sr.
LEOTI - Vigil service for Gregorio "Greg" Martinez Sr., 71, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Carlos Garcia Pena officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marienthal.
Mr. Martinez died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 7, 1931, at Aransas Pass, Texas, the son of Tranquilino and Juana Mendoza Martinez.
A Wichita County resident since 1954, he was a farmer and belonged to St. Anthony Catholic Church of Leoti and the G.I. Forum at Garden City.
On June 3, 1961, he married Josephine Hernandez at Marienthal. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, Mark A. Martinez of Parker, Colo., Tom C. Martinez of Brawley, Calif., and Greg R. Martinez Jr., Leoti; a daughter, Valerie Ann Henao, Dodge City; four brothers, Andrew and Pilar Hernandez, both of Rynosa, Mexico, Tranquilino Martinez of Aransas Pass, and Carlos Martinez of Houston; two sisters, Maria Macias of Rynosa, and Felicia Tanquma of McAllen, Texas; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Wichita County Long Term Care Unit or Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians, all in care of the funeral home.
Edna Mae LeClere
Edna Mae LeClere, 78, a former Garden City resident, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Swain County Hospital in Bryson City, N.C.
She was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Swain County.
On Jan. 7, 1947, she married Peter L. LeClere in Colorado. In 1949, they moved to Garden City, where she resided until returning to North Carolina in 1986. A retired nurse's aide, she had been a caregiver to several citizens of Garden City before moving back to North Carolina. She also was co-owner of LeClere's Novelties, a business in Garden City, from 1949 to 1970.
Mrs. LeClere was a member of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church of Bryson City and a long-time member of Trinity Wesleyan Church of Garden City.
Her husband died in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Frank; and two sisters, Helen and Bobbie Jean.
She is survived by a daughter, Geri Lynn Cooper of Wichita; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Jack Crowder; six sisters; Annie Kirkland, Naomi Fuller, Polly Taylor, Willa Faye Garren, Jessie Smith and Ruth Jangrow; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Thursday in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home, Bryson City, with the Rev. Paul R. Sale officiating. Burial was in Swain Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church Building Fund in Bryson City.
John J. Wilson
John J. Wilson, 76, of Forsan, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at a hospital in Big Spring, Texas.
He was born May 4, 1926, at Belpre, grew up in the Sublette area and attended grade school in Garden City.
On Nov. 22, 1953, he married Donna Rae Ebbers at Hysham, Mont. They lived and farmed in Hysham for a number of years. In 1960, they moved to Abilene, Texas, where he sold life insurance for American National Life Insurance Company in the Abilene and Big Spring areas for 11 years.
A resident of Forsan since 1981, Mr. Wilson worked for the Forsan ISD in the maintenance department before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Forsan Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Karen O'Donnell of Baker, Mont., Kathleen Pickett and Kay Sutton, both of Jacksboro, Texas, and Kristi Mereness of Forsan; two sons, Loren Wilson of Forsan, and Wayne Wilson of Big Spring; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Morrill of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace and Loren Wilson; and two sisters, Wilhelmina Stephensen and Margaret Hull.
Memorial service was 4 p.m. Thursday at Forsan Baptist Church, under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring.

Michael Courtney Hurd
Michael Courtney Hurd, 46, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Oct. 21, 1956, at Garden City, the son of Gene and Sonny Hurd. He grew up in Garden City and attended Garden City public schools. His hobbies included motorcycles and cars.
Survivors include his companion, Mary Mims of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Sonya Flucas of Fort Stewart, Ga.; two sons, Garrett and Quentin Hurd, both of Redmond, Wash.; his father, Garden City; four brothers, Dan Hurd and Mike Hawkins, both of Garden City, Phil Hurd of Salina, and Mark Hawkins of San Diego; two sisters, Lori Frame of Ovid, Colo., and Deb Hall of Beaver, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
A private memorial service was Saturday at Cornerstone Church.
Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, was in charge of arrangements.
Lila S. Rowe
DIGHTON - Funeral for Lila S. Rowe, 86, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Ben Friesen officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Rowe died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
She was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of James Rowland and Marie Opal Torson Doris. After her birth, the family moved to Finney County where she attended grade school in Ravana. The family later moved to Dighton and she attended high school there.
On May 31, 1935, she married St. Clair Rowe at Cimarron. They lived in Dighton after their marriage. He died July 8, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rowland C. "Ronnie" Rowe; a brother, Leo "Doodle" Doris; a sister, Margie Willson; and a grandson, John Rowe.
An active member of her community, Mrs. Rowe was involved in several organizations and especially enjoyed quilting. She was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton, American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 190, VFW Auxiliary Unit No. 6438, Al-Anon and the Dighton Quilters.
Survivors include a son, Doug Rowe of Garden City; two daughters, Lois Howard of Sallisaw, Okla., and Janet Gassman of Scranton; a brother, Dennis Doris of Dodge City; a sister, Elsie Lawrence of Dighton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

AshLynn L'Chole Vyoral
KENDALL - AshLynn L'Chole Vyoral, 16-month-old daughter of Stacy Vyoral of Kendall, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Nov. 1, 2001, at Kingwood, Texas, and had lived in Kendall since August 2002, moving from Hardin, Texas.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her grandparents, Charlie Vyoral of Dayton, Texas, and Shelley Brown of Kendall; her great-grandmother, Margaret Vyoral of Dayton; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Satanta, with the Rev. Ray Tweed officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. A memorial has been established for the family. Memorials may be left at Shopping Stop True Value in Satanta or mailed to the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Delphine 'Annie' Turner
ELKHART - Vigil service and rosary for Delphine L. "Annie" Turner, 79, will be 7 tonight at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Elkhart. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Michael McAndrew as celebrant. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Oct. 11, 1923, at Stafford County, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Hatzenbuehler Sloan. She attended St. Johns Academy at Wichita from 1929 to 1935, St. Mary's of the Plains Catholic School at Dodge City from 1935 to 1939, and Elkhart High School from 1939 until graduating in 1941. She attended summer school at Hays from 1943 to 1945, earning her emergency teaching certificate. She had taught at schools in Dermot, Prairieview and Taloga.
On Feb. 2, 1947, she married Jesse "Jack" Turner at Elkhart. A homemaker, Mrs. Turner also was active working on the family farm with her husband, driving tractor, plowing, drilling wheat, and packing the meals for family members working on the farm.
A resident of Elkhart and Morton County since 1939, she also worked at the Elkhart Motel from 1959 to 1968. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both at Elkhart. Her special interests included embroidery and working crossword puzzles with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Charles Sloan of Denver; two sisters, Loretta Howell and Margaret Forbes, both of Elkhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
Timothy Jake Polson
Timothy Jake Polson, 28, of Independence, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Gardner, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The accident also took the life of his wife, Michelle.
Born in Garden City on April 30, 1974, he was the son of John and Dana Polson. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1992 and from Kansas State University in 1998. While in high school, he was on three championship wrestling teams.
On Feb. 2, 2002, he married Michelle Fallis.
Mr. Polson was employed by Suburban Lawn and Garden in Independence and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Mission. He enjoyed playing Frisbee golf with his brother, Keith, and his nephew.
Survivors include his parents, Garden City; two brothers, Keith Polson of Merriam, and Marc Polson of Hays; his grandparents, Les and Minetta Carothers, and Loretta Polson, all of Kinsley; a sister-in-law; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Art Polson.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Luray United Methodist Church, with burial at Vincent Cemetery
in rural Luray. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City.
