Manuel T. Ramirez
Vigil service for Manuel T. Ramirez, 73, will be 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Ramirez died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 30, 1930, at Taft, Texas, the son of Esiquio and Maria Torres Ramirez. He grew up and attended school in Texas.
On Dec. 11, 1951, he married Maria Elena Willars at Plainview, Texas. They moved from Olton, Texas, to a farm north of Holcomb, where they lived for 23 years. In 1992, they moved to Garden City.
Mr. Ramirez worked for the Garden City Co., doing maintenance on irrigation wells in Finney and Kearny counties, for 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Garden City G.I. Forum. His hobbies included his vegetable garden, canning peppers, watching Mexican and Western movies, sorting coupons, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Esiquio Ramirez of the home, and Raul Manuel Ramirez of Washington, D.C.; four daughters, Anna Ramirez Gallardo, Lena Teresa Picazo, Lutilda Ramirez and Irene Dawes, all of Garden City; a brother, Jesus Ramirez of Garden City; five sisters, Catarina Ramirez, Senaida Ruiz and Delfina Terriquez, all of Garden City, Filomena Villanueva of Lubbock, Texas, and Isabel Trevino of Dodge City; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Francisca Sanchez; and a grandson, Thomas A. Gallardo.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Enid E. Lee
Funeral for Enid E. Lee, 83, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born July 15, 1919, at Luray, the daughter of J. Clark and Ruby B. Turner Earnest.
A Garden City resident since 1942, moving from Lakin, she had worked as a secretary for the Garden City Girl Scout House and later as a bookkeeper for Garden Valley Retirement Village until her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Lee was a member of First Christian Church and worked for many years in the Fellowship Guild, Cultura Study Club, and Business & Professional Women.
On Dec. 20, 1935, she married Lawrence O. Lee at Ulysses. He died April 14, 1991, at Garden City. She also was preceded in death by a son, Clark Lee; a daughter, Enid Allene Lee; a grandson, Kurt Preston Denton; and two brothers, Ivan and Gail Earnest.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Lee of Parsons; two daughters, Nancy Francis of Montgomery, Texas, and Glenda Denton of Garden City; a brother, Ralph Earnest of Lakin; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund or the American Diabetes Foundation, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Zelma Marie Davis
SYRACUSE - Funeral for Zelma Marie Townsend Davis, 91, of Peel, Ark., will be 10 a.m. MST Saturday at First Christian Church, Syracuse, with graveside committal service to follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Baxter County Hospital in Mountain Home, Ark.
She was born Sept. 25, 1911, at Harris, the daughter of Henry William Townsend and Mable Almertie Scharff. After graduating from high school in 1929, she attended Emporia State Teachers College for one year.
On May 6, 1932, she married Delmont Alvin Davis at Emporia. They and their families had been residents of Hamilton County. Mrs. Davis was a schoolteacher, a cook and a foster parent. She and her husband lived in Canon City, Colo., from 1943 until moving to Delta, Colo., in 1962, where they owned and operated Scotty's Motel. In 1994, they moved to Peel. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and being a foster mother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Delmont Alvin Davis Jr., Bonita Springs, Fla., and Gerald Eugene Davis of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Lila Marie Dooley of Peel; two brothers, Raymond M. and Thomas W. Townsend, both of Lebanon, Ore.; a sister, Anna L. Moulton of Eureka, Calif.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Fred F., Orval C., Arlie H. and Emery E. Townsend.

Marvin 'Knute' Gunter
Graveside service for Marvin N. "Knute" Gunter, 85, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Alden Valley Cemetery
in Alden, with the Rev. Frank Gunter officiating.
Mr. Gunter died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born March 21, 1917, at Stanberry, Mo., the son of William Roy and Margaret Alice Richardson Gunter. He grew up in Alden and graduated from Alden High School.
After moving to California, he worked as a carpenter until returning to Alden in 1951 and joining the family business, Gunter Service Station. In 1986, he moved to Garden City. He enjoyed fishing and building things.
He is survived by two brothers, Frank Gunter of Estes Park, Colo., and Virgil Gunter of Garden City; and four sisters, Minniedale Harrison of Sterling, Lacassa Fisher of Oakland, Calif., Alice Partington of Franklin, N.C., and Maxine O'Conner of Indio, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Russell, Arlis and Samuel Roy Gunter; and a sister, Mae Mullane.

Robert L. Peirano
Robert L. Peirano, 63, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Oct. 30, 1939, at Ellsworth, the son of Maurice and Ethel Eitel Peirano. He grew up in Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Peirano went to work for Layne-Western Drilling Co., and was stationed in Wichita before transferring to Garden City in 1970. In 1980, he started at Gigot Farms as a sprinkler operator.
Mr. Peirano was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Garden City. He had raced micro-midget cars in the past, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.
On May 9, 1965, he married Nancy F. Buehler at Topeka. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Shawn Peirano of Syracuse, and Byron Peirano of Garden City; a brother, Mike Peirano of Detroit; four sisters, Maureen Gerstner of St. Joseph, Mo., B.J. Stroup of Wilson, Alice Knox of Sedalia, Mo., and Patty Henry of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Terri Peirano.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church, Garden City, with Dr. Richard P. Frederick officiating.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Robert Peirano Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Ida Marie Beaver
TRIBUNE - Ida Marie Beaver, 83, a former resident of Tribune, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in Gravette, Ark.
She was born Jan. 30, 1920, at Collyer, the daughter of Frank D. and Anna Jane Cruse Morley.
Mrs. Beaver received her education at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. She had been an elementary school teacher in Tribune and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Gravette.
On June 27, 1953, she married Robert Daniel Beaver at Warrensburg. He survives. She also is survived by a brother, Charley Morley, address unknown; two sisters, Katie Sivels of Warrensburg, and Florence Meek of Detroit; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert Arthur, Donald Eugene and Daneal Ward Beaver; and a daughter, Barbara Marie Beaver.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Collyer Cemetery, with Leon Neher officiating.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to VFW Auxiliary Post No. 7521 at Tribune, in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
Betty Louise Brown
Mrs. Brown died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
She was born May 30, 1922, at Lamar, Colo., the daughter of Louis and Hannah Faye Rusmaisel Hoppe.
A Hugoton resident since 1949, moving from Lamar, she was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.
On Feb. 13, 1954, she married Robert Leroy Brown at Clayton, N.M. He died Oct. 27, 1999. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Tuffy Hoppe; and two sisters, Margaret McVicker and Joan Clarke.
Survivors include a son, N. Virgil Milburn of Hugoton; three daughters, Pam Brown of Page, Ariz., Pat Willis of Hugoton, and Bobbi Dobbs of Weatherford, Okla.; a brother, Louis Hoppe of Port LaBelle, Fla.; a sister, Grace Payne of Lamar; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Charles Everett Swisher
SYRACUSE - Charles Everett Swisher, 89, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Hamilton County Extended Care Facility in Syracuse.
He was born Jan. 26, 1914, at Ransom, the son of Charles Henry and Lillian Anna Smith Swisher. He received his high school diploma from USD 494 in Syracuse.
A Syracuse resident for more than 40 years, he was a retired cook. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He married Twyla Addington, with whom he had two daughters.
Survivors include his two daughters, Myrtle Deanie Hearne and Charlotte Ann Barr, both of Florence, Colo.; two sisters, La Verna Browning of Syracuse, and Margaret Clark of Holly, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Almer, Harold, Chester, Preston, Orville, Rex and Arden Swisher; and two sisters, Myrtle Howell and Thelma Ulry.
A chapel service will begin at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Graveside committal service will follow at Valley View Cemetery
in Garden City.
