Kenneth Lee Moore
Kenneth Lee Moore, 89, of Satanta, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at The Vyne Hospice in Wichita.
He was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Trego County, the son of Herburt Monroe and Hattie Bellwood Steele Moore. As a teen-ager, he left home to live with his uncle and aunt, Lafe and Bess Moore, in Haskell County. He remained in Haskell County the rest of his life with the exception of the time he served with the U.S. Army Airforce during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Satanta and was employed by United Producing Co. He also farmed in northern Haskell County.
Mr. Moore was a member of the United Methodist Church of Satanta, and Friends Of the Zoo and the Finney County Historical Society, both at Garden City.
On March 21, 1942, he married Celia Mae Groth at Deerfield. She died Jan. 13, 1997. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Leland Knowles; two brothers, Willis Wayne Moore and Vernon Robert Moore; and two sisters, Anita Eileen Moore and Marjorie Elaine McDonald.
On June 17, 2002, he married Paula Barber Hall at Minneola. She survives. He also is survived by four stepsons, John Knowles of Richardson, Texas, Robert Knowles of Salida, Colo., Charles Barber of Sonora, Texas, and Jon Petty of Fort Hood, Texas; three stepdaughters, Ruth Horton of Hugoton, Jeri Petty of Sublette, and Troi Hall of Satanta; a sister, Bernice Dean McDaniel, Camarillo, Calif.; 14 stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Satanta, with the Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Roberta P. 'Bobby' Rouse
ULYSSES - Roberta P. "Bobby" Rouse, 82, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born July 14, 1920, at Horace, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Ivy Mae Faulkner Crocker.
A Ulysses resident since 1947, she worked at Minor Drug, McNitt Drug and Crocker Theater. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses Bowling League, Sweet Adalines, Ulysses Women's Golf Association, Golden Jubilee, P.T.A., and the Monday Study Club, and was past chairman of the American Cancer Society of Ulysses.
On Sept. 1, 1942, she married Gerald D. Rouse at Colorado Springs, Colo. He died Dec. 20, 2002. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Smith; a son-in-law; and a sister, Helen Hurlbut.
Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Sherrod, Joplin, Mo.; a brother, Charles "Bo" Crocker, Ulysses; two sisters, Virginia Binney of Ulysses, and Thelma Robinson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Dennis H. Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Ruth Irene Elliott
Wake service for Ruth Irene Elliott, 84, of Bird City, will be 7 p.m. CST Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bird City. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. CST Friday at the church, with burial in Bird City Cemetery.
Mrs. Elliott, a homemaker, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis.
She was born Oct. 26, 1918, near Bird City in Cheyenne County.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Olson and Karolyn McFee, both of Holcomb, and Lori Rietcheck of Goodland; a sister, Marie Hardwick, Tempe, Ariz.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Elliott, in 1990; a granddaughter, Kinsey E. Rietcheck, in 1998; and a great-grandson, Lyndon Olson, in 2002.

Irvin Robert Latta
MONTEZUMA - Irvin Robert Latta, 89, died today, Feb. 5, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident since Jan. 27.
He was born July 4, 1913, southeast of Montezuma in Gray County, the son of Oliver and Lilly Hadlock Latta.
A lifetime resident of Montezuma, he was a farmer and electrician before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a former member of the Lions Club, both at Montezuma, and belonged to the National Rifle Association.
On Aug. 21, 1937, he married Evelyn Unruh at Montezuma. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Robert Latta of Meade, and Richard Latta of Indianapolis; a sister, Zella Fluto, Raymond, Wash.; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oscar and Perry Latta; and a sister, Alice Evans.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, Montezuma.

Evan 'E.J.' Green
TRIBUNE - Evan "E.J." Green, 78, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
He was born May 7, 1924, at Leoti, the son of Albert J. and Mabel M. McAllister Green.
A farmer, he owned and operated Green Fertilizer before retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tribune, a lifetime member of the VFW at Tribune and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On Nov. 5, 1950, he married Arline Baker at Leoti. She survives. He also is survived by a son, David Green, WaKeeney; a daughter, Diane Stithem, Hoxie; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. MDT Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Tribune, with the Revs. Roland Emmonds and Charles Ayers officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery
with full military honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Alice J. Peters
SCOTT CITY - Alice J. Peters, 94, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Health Care Center of Gunnison in Colorado.
She was born March 8, 1908, at Circleville, the daughter of Richard Andrew and Sarah Alice Amanda Deck Tribble.
A Scott City resident for 60 years, she moved to Gunnison in August 2001. She was a farmer and homemaker and had taught school in Lorraine from 1931 to 1935.
Mrs. Peters was a member of First Christian Church, CWF, Scott County VIP Center, Rebekah Lodge and the chamber of commerce, all at Scott City, and National Society Zeta Tau Alpha.
On Oct. 18, 1935, she married Gerald E. Peters at Soldier. He died Oct. 31, 1984, at Scott City. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nell Brown, Kerzie Gordon and Laura Linscott; and three brothers, Lee, Scott and Gordon Tribble.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Kay Howard of Liberal, and Sharon Lee Schlegel of Gunnison; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Doris J. Mainwaring
CIMARRON - Graveside service for Doris J. Mainwaring, 76, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cimarron Cemetery, with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating.
Mrs. Mainwaring died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
She was born July 31, 1926, at Cimarron, the daughter of Arthur Henry and Mabel Eugenia Courbot Steward.
She grew up in Gray County, moved to Washington state in 1969 and returned to Cimarron in December 2001. She had worked as a secretary for Wheat Growers while in Cimarron and for International Paper Company while in Washington. She belonged to the Methodist Church.
On Oct. 20, 1945, she married Howard Benton Jr., at Cimarron. He died May 20, 1965. She married David Oliver Mainwaring on March 1, 1969, at Dodge City. He died July 9, 1970. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arlie "Bud" Steward.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Addison, Cimarron; three stepchildren, David and Darrel Mainwaring and Barbara Bottmiller, all of Washington; two sisters, Vera Mackey of Dodge City, and Lorraine Everton of California; two grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren.

Lloyd Wayne Stoops
HUGOTON - Lloyd Wayne Stoops, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Fort Collins Health Care Center in Fort Collins, Colo.
He was born Nov. 5, 1914, in rural Stevens County, the son of Marion and Lula Lee Duckworth Stoops. He grew up and attended schools in Hugoton before joining the U.S. Army, where he served in the Pacific during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
After returning from the service, he began work as a production foreman in the gas and oil industry. During his 30-year career, he lived in Liberal and Tyrone, Okla. After his retirement, he spent his time between those two cities until moving to the Boulder/Fort Collins, Colo., area in 1998.
Mr. Stoops was a former member of the Elks Lodge of Liberal and the Liberal Country Club.
On July 14, 1943, he married Dorothy Agnes Stegman at Hugoton. She died Dec. 6, 1983. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Stoops of Albuquerque, N.M., Darrel E. Stoops of North Hollywood, Calif., and Lloyd D. Stoops, Boulder; a brother, Ralph Stoops, California; a sister, Gladys Stoops, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Helen's Catholic Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Michael McAndrew as celebrant. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
