Dorothea Jennison
HEALY - Dorothea Jennison, 89, of Amarillo, Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo.
She was born July 4, 1913, at the family home in Healy, the daughter of Herlan Stewart and Katharine Ehmke Jennison. After graduation from Healy School in 1930, she worked for one year at First State Bank in Healy. She attended Fort Hays State College for one year, then taught in Lane County country schools. She returned to FHSC to pursue a degree in chemistry, which she earned in 1963 following additional courses at Amarillo College and West Texas State College in Canyon.
She trained as a medical technologist at the Laboratory School at Kansas City General Hospital from 1937 to 1939. She worked as a medical technologist at Methodist Hospital in Joplin, Mo., and the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, then worked for a series of physicians in group practice in Amarillo from 1942 to 1988. She maintained membership in local, state and national medical technology organizations, belonged to Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School class.
She is survived by a sister, Kay Waddell of Washington, Iowa; and two brothers, Harold and Karl Jennison, both of Healy. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Jennison; and a sister, Marguerite Jennison.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel, Amarillo, with Dr. James E. Garrett officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Healy Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating.

Darrell Lee Buell
Vigil service for Darrell Lee Buell, 72, will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Buell died today, Feb. 13, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 11, 1930, at Concordia, where he grew up.
A Garden City resident since 1957, he was employed at the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring in 1992. He belonged to St. Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion, volunteered at the Senior Center of Finney County, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed model cars, word puzzles, visiting with people, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
On Jan. 19, 1964, he married Louise Lefort at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by two daughters, Pamla Chalmers of Holcomb, and Sandra Linenberger of Garden City; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Doris Claudine Buckner
HUGOTON - Doris Claudine Buckner, 81, of Wichita and formerly of Hugoton, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at The Health Care Center at Larksfield Place in Wichita.
She was born Feb. 15, 1921, at Hugoton, the daughter of Carl and Eliza Maude Thompson Massey. She graduated from Hugoton High School and from The University of Michigan in 1950.
A certified public accountant, Mrs. Buckner had worked for Don Schmidt Dodge and at a motorcycle shop in Wichita. She was state president of the Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, state treasurer of The Daughters of American Colonists, treasurer of The Wichita Town Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, chapter treasurer of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century-Mary Keene Chapter, state vice president of the National Society of U.S. Daughters of 1812-Capt. Lewis Wells Ferrell Chapter, and belonged to the Kansas State Huguenot Society and the Wichita Genealogy Society.
On Nov. 15, 1953, she married Fred A. Buckner at Hugoton. He died April 21, 1995. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by an aunt, Jessie Mae Thompson of Hugoton.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Jeff Aenk officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at the funeral home.
Brona Lee Love
SUBLETTE - Brona Lee Love, 72, of Sublette and formerly of Dodge City, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, after a long illness.
She was born May 15, 1930, at Dodge City, the daughter of Austin Clyde and Ortha Eleanor Rutherford Harman.
A Sublette resident since September 1999, moving from Dodge City, she worked for Boot Hill and Boot Hill Repertory Co., Dodge City, for many years, and was a member of God's New Covenant Fellowship at Sublette. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, baking cinnamon rolls, bread and pies, and also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
On Oct. 29, 1949, she married Roy Love at Raton, N.M. He died Dec. 5, 1999. She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; a sister, Gaye Fischer; a grandson, Jimmy; and a great-grandson, Kaden.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Love of Sublette, Rodney Love of Omaha, Neb., and Gregory Love of Wink, Texas; two daughters, Terri Lower of Sublette and Tami Williams of Dodge City; a sister, Susan Post of Dodge City; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at God's New Covenant Fellowship, Sublette, with the Rev. Joe Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Alice Yuvonne Walters
Funeral for Alice Yuvonne Walters, 44, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Tim Kline officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday in Browns Grove Cemetery
at Burdett.
Mrs. Walters died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at her home in Garden City, following a long illness.
She was born Dec. 1, 1958, at Ridgecrest, Calif., the daughter of Thomas and Donna Davis Steele.
A Garden City resident since 2001, moving from Ulysses, she was a secretary for Lonnie's Roustabout Service in Ulysses. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church of Ulysses, and enjoyed reading and the arts.
On July 15, 1994, she married Lonnie Walters at Ulysses.
She is survived by two sons, Levi Miller of Topeka, and Adam Kepner of Ellsworth; a stepdaughter, Delona Clair of Ulysses; her father, Garden City; her mother, Donna Davis of Mustang, Okla.; three brothers, Thomas Steele of Austin, Texas, Jerry Steele of Garden City, and James Steele of Mustang; and two grandchildren.

Wilbur C. Sloan
Wilbur C. Sloan, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born March 15, 1925, in Jewell County, the son of John David and Mina Alphea Brant Sloan.
A Garden City resident until retiring in 1986, he then moved to Colorado, where he resided until moving to Dodge City in 2002. He was a self-employed auto body and fender man and was part owner of A&A Body Shop in Garden City.
Mr. Sloan was a member of the Deer Mountain (Colo.) Fire Department, Deer Mountain Community Association, Deer Mountain Lions, and Cody Park Church.
On Jan. 14, 1945, he married Marcelle S. Love at Ionia. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Brad Sloan of Garden City; three daughters, Sharon Nelson of Dodge City, Deanne Spanier of Oberlin, and Janis Frey of Crete, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Duane Sloan; and a sister, Ruth Pletcher.
A memorial service is planned for later at Cody Park Church in Colorado. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Cody Park Church, in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Pearl M. Weaver
Pearl M. Weaver, 90, of Lancaster, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003.
She was born Dec. 10, 1912, at the family farm near Lake City, the daughter of Ernest Rodney and Harriet Ann Gott Cole. The family moved to Scott City in 1926 and to Deerfield in 1928. She attended Deerfield schools and graduated from Garden City High School.
In 1930, she married Virgil Weaver. They moved to Schenectady, N.Y. On the advice of their doctors, the Weavers moved to California for what they hoped would be better weather for the health of their small children who had cystic fibrosis.
Mrs. Weaver loved to garden and enjoyed cooking, being well-known for her award-winning efforts in various categories at the Antelope Valley Fair.
She is survived by two sisters, Nellie Kleeman Thomas and Della Enslow, both of Lakin; two brothers, Rufus Cole of New Meadows, Idaho, and Nolan Cole of Nampa, Idaho; a son, Chuck Weaver; two granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years; three children, Virgil Jr., Cindy and Joy; two brothers, Paul and Allen Cole; and a sister, Christina Grusing.
Funeral was Jan. 17 at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
James K. 'Ken' Cearley
SUBLETTE - James Kenneth "Ken" Cearley, 70, Sublette, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Satanta District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 29, 1932, at Sparks, Okla., the son of Tracy James and Myrtle Marie Frazier Cearley.
Mr. Cearley began his teaching career in 1953 at Sparks. He then taught at Langdon from 1954 to 1957, and at Lakin from 1957 to 1960. In 1960, he moved to Sublette where he taught social studies at Sublette High School. He also served as basketball, football and golf coach during his years of teaching, which spanned 40 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sublette, Masonic Tyrian Lodge of Garden City, Median Shrine and Wichita Consistory, both at Wichita, and a retired member of the Kansas National Education Association. He loved spending time with his family, was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed fishing, K-State football games and traveling.
On Aug. 17, 1952, he married Ruth O. Green at Meeker, Okla. She died March 13, 1986. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Barnett.
On Feb. 6, 1987, he married Sue (Spradlin) Roberts at Sublette. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, James Michael Cearley and Michael Lee Cearley, both of Sublette, and Rex Lee Cearley of Abilene; a daughter, Suzan Kay Kimball of Sublette; two stepdaughters, Sarah Roberts of Tonganoxie, and Mary Dixon of Longmont, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Sublette, with the Rev. Keith Fink officiating. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with Masonic graveside rites conducted.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.
