Marc A. Schade
Funeral for Marc A. Schade, 11, will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will take place later.
Marc died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at his home in Garden City.
He was born April 12, 1991, at Safford, Ariz., the son of Jennifer A. Schade Withrow. A Garden City resident since July 2000, moving from Wilsonville, Neb., he was a student at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center. He was a member of Christian Baptist Church of Wilsonville and attended the Kids College through the Educational Talent Search.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his grandmother, Twila Yost, Wilsonville; four uncles; two aunts; and five cousins.
There will be no visitation. Memorials to the Marc A. Schade Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Anna Pauline 'Lena' Irsik
Vigil service for Anna Pauline "Lena" Irsik, 85, will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Irsik died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born April 9, 1917, at Peterson Station in Holcomb, the daughter of William Jr. and Gertrude Frances Doerfler Stebens. She was of German/Volga German descent. When she was 2, the family moved to Morland. She attended Morland schools, graduating from Morland High School in 1935.
When she was 20, she returned to Holcomb. She had been a Holcomb and Garden City resident since that time, living at Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City for three years. A homemaker, she was a gifted piano player and gave the gift of music to her eight children. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, cooking and poetry. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
On May 11, 1941, she married Victor L. Irsik at Keenesburg, Colo. He died April 8, 1984. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Frances Glover and Lola Mae Stoppel; and a brother, William Harold Stebens.
She is survived by seven sons, Lawrence, Denver, Robert, Richmond, Va., Paul, Turpin, Okla., William, Joseph and Jon, all of Garden City, and James, Perryton, Texas; a daughter, Judy Miller, Woodbridge, Va.; three brothers, James Stebens, Moore, Okla., Willard Stebens, Fresno, Calif., and Edward Stebens, Garden City; five sisters, Mary Brocker, San Angelo, Texas, Gertrude McCullough, Hampton, Va., Dorothy Komlofske and Jane Kelly, both of Garden City, and Joanne Washum, Puallup, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Catherine Hospital Building Fund, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Mabel Helm Farnsworth
Mabel Helm Farnsworth, 92, Ponca City, Okla., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Shawn Manor in Ponca City.
She was born March 10, 1910, in Graham County, the daughter of Anthony Thomas and Deborah Anise Knox Hawkins. She moved with her parents to Garden City in 1921.
On Dec. 21, 1926, she married Paul Helm. They resided in Holcomb for most of their married life. She was employed as a cook at Holcomb schools, as a housekeeper for Herb and Bonnie Clutter, and as a waitress at the Hartman Café. She was a Jehovah's Witness.
She is survived by a daughter, Essie Ford of Ponca City; a son, Dale Helm of Ovilla, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Her husband died March 25, 1960. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons; a daughter, Marsha Michel; five brothers; and one sister.
Visitation hours are noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City.
Contributions may be made in her memory to a memorial of the donor's choice.
Julia Friend
Johnson CITY - Julia Stidd Friend, 89, of New Iberia, La., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.
She was born June 10, 1913, at Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Edmund and Frances Mayes Stidd.
A longtime employee of LeBlanc & Broussard Ford and of Dauterive Hospital, she had been the financial secretary at the First United Methodist Church in New Iberia for the past 20 years. She loved playing Pokeno.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph E. Friend of New Iberia, and Robert G. Friend of Majava, Calif.; three brothers, Dallas Stidd of Logansville, Ga., Raymond Stidd of Blenhiem, S.C., and David Stidd of Crystal River, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Woodsbury of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Raymond E. Friend, died in 1961. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Stidd Reece; and a brother, Kensil Stidd.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating.

Earl 'Roger' Ipson
ELKHART - Funeral for Earl "Roger" Ipson, 75, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Elkhart United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Elkhart Area Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Post No. 3162.
Mr. Ipson died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, at Elkhart, the son of Earl and Beva Bartley Ipson. He grew up in Rolla, graduated from high school there and then attended Panhandle A & M College. He later was drafted by the U.S. Army, serving in Japan.
On June 18, 1949, he married Bonnie Gerrond at Clayton, N.M.
Mr. Ipson was employed for 35 years by Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co., retiring in 1984. He worked with the Akers family at Pioneer Men's Store in Elkhart for many years, served several terms on the Elkhart School Board and Elkhart City Council, and was on the board of the Morton County Housing Authority. He also was an assistant juvenile probation officer and later sold real estate with the Janzen-Elder Company after his retirement.
For the past 13 years, he and his wife spent their winter months at their home in Harlingen. In his spare time, he volunteered as a mentor to children in Harlingen schools. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and playing pool, and loved children.
Mr. Ipson was a member of Elkhart United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Retirees and Point Rock Golf Club and was a charter member of Elkhart Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Teresa Harder of Elkhart; a son, Ted Ipson of Liberal; two brothers, Howard Ipson of Surprise, Ariz., and Louis Ipson of Derby; two sisters, Earlene Williams of Rolla, and Eileen Firmin of Perryton, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Ronald Dean.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart. Memorials are suggested to Elkhart United Methodist Church or the Earl "Roger" Ipson Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
Leo W. Cosper
SYRACUSE - Leo W. Cosper, 75, of Syracuse, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born April 15, 1927, at Weatherford, Okla., the son of Joe and Cecil Sarah Riggins Cosper.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Emma Cosper, a daughter, Sarah Cosper, and a granddaughter, all of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private burial service has taken place and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Leo Cosper Memorial Fund, in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home & Monuments, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
Dale Wagner
Dale Wagner, 77, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at his home in Port Isabel, Texas.
He was born Nov. 14, 1925, at Dodge City, the son of Russel and Drusilla Starke Wagner. He grew up and attended schools in Hodgeman County.
On Aug. 8, 1980, he married Joan Schauf Schmidt at Garden City. Garden City residents since their marriage, they have spent the winters in Port Isabel for the past three years.
Mr. Wagner worked as a school custodian for USD 457, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Western Kansas Rock Club. He enjoyed collecting, cutting and polishing rocks and also enjoyed collecting sea shells.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Henry Schmidt of Garden City; a daughter, Lori Ryan of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Harry Walz officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Myra Maye Hodge
Myra Maye Hodge, 74, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 2, 1928, at Heavener, Okla., the daughter of Raymond Curtis and Jewell Frances Pritchard Monk. She grew up in Hobbs, N.M., and graduated from high school there.
A Garden City resident for most of her adult life, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Fellowship Baptist Church of Garden City and was a former member of First Christian Church of Hobbs. She enjoyed baking and her church activities, especially the Cubbies children's program.
On Sept. 18, 1977, she married Earshell L. Hodge at Garden City. He died July 5, 1982. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas M. Monk of Hobbs, and Raymond C. Monk of Glendale, Ariz.; and a sister, Oralee Nelson of Hobbs.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Michael McVey officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Prairie Haven Memorial Park in Hobbs, with the Rev. David Matkins officiating.
