Donald Lee McBee
Funeral for Donald Lee McBee, 73, of Fowler, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Fowler, with the Rev. Roland Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Fowler Cemetery, with military rites conducted
Mr. McBee died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Meade District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1929, at Fowler, the son of Velma Hardaway Emberton. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1949.
A lifetime resident of Fowler, he was a retired maintenance manager for the City of Fowler. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion, both at Fowler, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Nov. 12, 1953, he married LaVonna Unzicker at Liberal. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Doyle McBee, Hooker, Okla., and Royce McBee, Dodge City; three daughters, Debra Hartman, Garden City, Jamie Lang and Leann Sobba, both of Fowler; two brothers, Paul Emberton, Thackerville, Okla., and Tom Emberton, Gainsville, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Nichols, Minneola, and Velda Thomas, Dodge City; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Memorials are suggested to the church or Meade District Hospital, both in care of the mortuary, Box F, Meade, KS 67864.
August F. Koster
August F. Koster, 89, of Garden City, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born March 14, 1913, at Cheney, the son of Henry and Emma Elling Koster, and attended Cheney schools.
A farmer, Mr. Koster moved to a farm on the Finney-Scott county line in 1946 and moved into Garden City in 1957. His special interests were his work and attending auctions. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City and had served as a church officer in the past. He also had served on the Finney County Planning Commission for 18 years.
On June 8, 1940, he married Leota Van Campen at Natrona. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, Duane and Dale Koster, both of Garden City, and Neil Koster, Kearny, Neb.; two daughters, Patricia Bridges, Garden City, and Marsha Koster-Carter, Wichita; a sister, Margaret Guetschow, Cheney; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Herman, Fred, Henry, John and Martin Koster; and three sisters, Marie Walty, Helen Koster and Anna Voss.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Lyle Stuehrenberg officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Kansas Head Injury Association, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Georgina L. Randolph
ELKHART - Georgina L. Randolph, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Amarillo Baptist Hospice Care Center in Amarillo, Texas.
She was born July 14, 1930, at Ulysses, the daughter of Jess and Edith Yantz Rankin. A longtime resident of Elkhart, she graduated from Elkhart High School in 1948.
Her early years were spent in Elkhart before the family moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where she lived for about 30 years before returning to Elkhart. A bookkeeper and homemaker, her special interests included sewing, quilting, gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.
On May 15, 1948, she married Francis E. Randolph at Elkhart. He died March 18, 1998. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marvin Rankin.
Survivors include two sons, Ron Randolph, Chandler, Ariz., and Craig Randolph, McKinney, Texas; a daughter, Rita Mortensen, Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Marjorie Powell, Elkhart; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart, with the Rev. James A. Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery.

Virgil G. Hickman
DIGHTON - Virgil G. Hickman, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his home in Dighton.
He was born Sept. 10, 1935, at Holly, Colo., the son of Glen and Eunice Mabel Gibson Hickman. His early years were spent around the area of Granada and Lamar, Colo. He graduated from Granada High School in 1956.
On June 23, 1957, he married Donita M. Swisher. They moved to Dighton in 1968. Mr. Hickman enjoyed greeting and serving the community of Lane County and the surrounding area while working at the Farmer's Co-op Oil and Appliance Store. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Scott City.
He supported his children and other youth in various leadership and competitive activities, including summer ball programs, local 4-H and school activities. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, keeping up with their activities and sports until his illness made this impossible. He also enjoyed working in his yard, tending to his flower beds, watching birds and other outdoor activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Virgil G. Hickman Jr., Lyman, Colo.; two daughters, Tamara S. "Tami" Bloedorn, Dighton, and Jodi L. Gray, Stratton, Colo.; a brother, Arthur Hickman, Superior, Neb.; a sister, Betty Herrmann, Ashland; his mother-in-law, Frances Swisher, Dighton; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Melvin; a sister, Ruth Dunn; and his father-in-law, Don Swisher.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City, with the Rev. James Webster officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the Dighton High School Activity Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Bernice A. Siemens
MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Bernice A. Unruh Siemens, 87, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Farwell, Texas, with burial in Sunset Terrace Cemetery
at Farwell.
Mrs. Siemens died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident since March 2000.
She was born June 8, 1915, at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Andrew and Lena Schartner Unruh.
A homemaker, she spent most of her life in Merced County, Calif., and had lived in Farwell for six years before moving to Bethel Home. She was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite.
On Dec. 15, 1936, she married Jesse Victor Siemens. He preceded her in death as did her parents; three brothers, DeDan, Aaron and Norman Unruh; six sisters, Beana Koehn, Alvina Koehn, Fanny Jantz, Hulda Giesbrecht, Rosella Koehn and Selma Unruh; two sons, Alfred and Randall Siemens; two daughters, Marilyn and Helen Siemens; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by a son, Vernon Siemens, Quartsite, Ariz.; a daughter, LaVerna Koehn, Farwell; nine grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Montezuma Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Arrangements in Farwell were handled by Steed-Tood Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M.
Masud Cohan
Funeral for Masud Cohan, 48, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Liberal. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Mr. Cohan died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Sept. 11, 1954, at Tehran, Iran, the son of Shoa and Mahboobeh Zarrebin-Irani Shakibanejad. He attended Pars College in Tehran before moving to the United States. He then attended the University of Maine in Prescott and Fort Hays State University, earning bachelor's degrees in psychology and business administration.
Mr. Cohan was employed from 1980 to 1981 with Mutual of Omaha in Garden City, was manager of material handling at IBP in Garden City from 1981 to 1994 and since 1994 had been the freezer manager at National Beef in Liberal.
He was a member of the Baha'i Community of Garden City and Liberal, and also belonged to the Flatlanders Motorcycle Club and HOG Liberal Chapter. He had taught martial arts at the YMCA in Garden City, was assistant swim coach for the Liberal Girls Swim Team and taught self-defense at Seward County Community College.
On July 27, 2002, he married Samantha Teel at Liberal. She survives. He also is survived by his parents, Los Angeles; two daughters, Marjan Cohan, Manhattan, and Roya Cohan, Liberal; a son, Bryce Teel, of the home; and a sister, Roya Hosseini, Los Angeles.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.
Carl S. Warner
Funeral for Carl S. Warner, 89, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Warner died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 21, 1913, at Whiting, the son of Peter and Zouri Lititia Saylor Warner. In 1938, he graduated with his degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University where he served as the captain of the wrestling team for four years.
Mr. Warner moved to Alma and worked for the State of Kansas as a field agent for one year before moving to western Kansas where he worked as a farmer and rancher. Following his retirement, he took a job with the Kansas State Experiment Station in Garden City where he was recognized as the KSU Employee of the Year in his job classification in 1983.
A Garden City resident since 1940, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Optimist Club, worked with various 4-H Clubs and served on the Pawnee Valley School Board for 10 years. He also formed and led the Pawnee Valley Watershed, which planned and sponsored numerous soil conservation projects over the years.
On Aug. 13, 1938, he married Dorothy A. Diggs at Westmoreland. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Bruce Warner, Eastlake, Colo., and Pete Warner, Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, June Williamson, Jefferson City, Mo., and Jane Smith, Garden City; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers; and two grandchildren, Cameron and Andrea Smith.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church or the Optimist Club, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
