Marshall F. Walker, Jr.
Ulysses - Marshall F. Walker Jr., 84, of Ulysses died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
Walker was born March 24, 1918, in Brownsville, Tenn., to Marshall F. Walker Sr. and Mary Louise Walker.
He became a Ulysses resident in 1951 and served as the Grant County agriculture agent and extension director until he retired in 1986. In 1963, he received the Certificate of Distinguished Service from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents and served as a trainer for young agents. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, where he was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
He was the 1975 Grant County Citizen of the Year and was active in the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, including being president. He organized the 100-Bushel Milo Club, later named the Bonanza Club. In 1977, he was honored by having the auditorium at the Grant County Civic Center named after him. He also was active in many other local and state organizations and was always honored to work for the people of Grant County. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
On July 6, 1945, he was married to Evelyn Lorraine Geist in Hutchinson. She died June 14, 1963. He also is preceded in death by two sons, William Lynn Walker and Marshall (Mark) F. Walker III.
On April 17, 1966, he re-married to Esther E. Wilson in Marienthal.
Survivors include his wife Esther; two sons, Mike Walker of Garden City and Bob Walker of Satanta; One daughter, Marsha Rakestraw of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Bill Walker of Cananan, N.Y.; one sister, Carolyn Hawkins of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, with Rev. Dennis H. Livingston presiding. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Hutchinson.
Friends may call Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Committee or the Grant County 4-H Council, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Grace E. Logan
LEOTI - Grace E. Logan, 87, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.
She was born Jan. 25, 1915. in Franklin, Neb., the daughter of Alvin Emerson and Ethel Elizabeth Dempsey Mc Climans. She married Carl Logan Feb. 17, 1934, in Johnson City. She was a homemaker, member of First Baptist Church in Leoti and secretary for Mc Climans, Logan & Logan Implements before her 1966 retirement.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Maida June Hetzler, Ulysses, and Orpha Kay Duell, Wichita; a grandson; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Leoti, with the Rev. Richard Odom officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Katharin Mayree (McKinley) Presley
ELKHART - Katharin Mayree (McKinley) Presley, 93, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Morton County Care Center, Elkhart.
She was born April 6, 1909, in Texas County, Okla., to Thomas and Era (Rogers) McKinley. She spent her early years in Hooker, Okla., and rural Texas County. After earning her lifelong teaching certificate, she taught at country schools in the Oklahoma panhandle area.
She married Thomas D. Presley Oct. 31, 1931, in Liberal.
In 1932, they moved to Morton County, where she has been a resident ever since. Her interests included gardening, sewing and crocheting. She was also a member of Rolla Baptist Church, the Senior Citizens' Group of Rolla and the American Baptist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Lawrence Presley; a daughter, Joyce Irons; two brothers, Thomas McKinley and Woodrow McKinley; a sister, Georgia Mae Couble, a stepbrother, Emmitt Hughley; and two step-sisters, Irene Crawford and Doris Ragsdale.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Easterwood, Rolla, and Maxine Thompson, Vacaville, Calif.; a brother, Stanley McKinley, Hooker; a sister, June Elliott, Amarillo, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Douglas Cauble, Big Lake, Texas.
Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Emanuel Baptist Church in Rolla, with the Rev. Danny Joiner officiating. She will be buried in Hooker Cemetery.

Madonna Y. Clausen
Madonna Y. Clausen, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Kinsley, the daughter of Rufus and Millie E. Bisbee Wilson.
On Sept. 19, 1942, she married George J. Clausen Jr. at Wichita. During World War II she worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita. She moved to Garden City in 1942.
She was a homemaker and caregiver. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, Madonna also was a former EHU member and a volunteer at Buffalo Jones Elementary School in cooperation with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Finney County Senior Center.
She is survived by one son, Chris R. Clausen, and one daughter, Yondolan Gundlach, both of Garden City; one granddaughter, LaDawn Christmann, Garden City; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, two sisters and a grandson.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. The Rev. Robert Cousins will officiate.
Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, also at Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Mable R. Beach
SCOTT CITY - Mable R. Beach, 68, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her home in Scott City.
She was born May 13, 1934, in Scott County, the daughter of Max L. and Annie Haddock Hite.
She was a lifetime resident of Scott County. She worked as a telephone operator from 1955 to 1965. She then worked as a farmer with her husband and was an avid volunteer at Park Lane Nursing Home.
She also was a member of Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend.
On Aug. 17, 1952, she married Duwane Beach at Friend. He survives. A sister, Edna Stone, Amarillo, Texas, also survives
Beach was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m Thursday at Prairie View Cemetery, Friend, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating.

Richard Raymond Stafford
SCOTT CITY - Richard Raymond Stafford, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
He was born August 30, 1915, in Alexander, the son of Edward and Emma Neperena Stafford.
Stafford moved to Scott City in 1951. He owned Dick Stafford Land Leveling.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the 258 Field Artillery in World War II. He also was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Scott City and the Eagles Lodge in Garden City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
He is survived by his friend Jane McBroom, Scott City.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
Internment will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ness City Cemetery.

Rosa Ella Yardley
Rosa Ella Yardley, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 31, 1923, in Minneola, the daughter of Henry and Magdalena (Riemer) Ratzlaff.
Yardley graduated from Minneola High School in 1942 and attended Tabor College in Hillsboro for a year. She moved to Garden City in 1943.
In Garden City, she was a cook at Garden City High School for 22 years, and cooked evenings and weekends at Garden City Community College.
She married Garold Yardley Dec. 31, 1946, in Garden City.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City and Ioleta McElhaney Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Judith Joan Yardley; one sister, Bertha Haffner; and two brothers Henry Ratzlaff, Jr. and Elias Ratzlaff.
She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Price and Connie Estrada, Garden City, Jean Gray, St. Peter, Mo., and Sandy Meier, Yukon, Okla.; two brothers, Arthur Ratzlaff, Minneola, and James Ratzlaff, Winfield; two sisters, Anna Ratzlaff, Garden City, and Sara Kissel, Limon, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Garden City. Rev. Carroll Morony will officiate.
Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery
in Garden City.

Donald C. Crawford
HUGOTON - Donald C. Crawford, 55, Hugoton, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his home in Hugoton.
The son of Lloyd L. and Dorene R. (Hodges) Crawford, he was born Feb. 10, 1947, at Garden City.
He was a farmer, a former crop duster pilot and insurance representative. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Hugoton, and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include three sons, Shannon Crawford, Bryan Crawford and Brett Crawford, all of Hugoton; grandmother Alba Wayland, Hugoton; brother Kenneth Crawford; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandfather Roy Crawford and grandparents George and Mabel Hodges.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, with Rev. Eric Mason presiding. Burial will follow in the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.
