Malvina 'Mallie' Pratt
SYRACUSE - Funeral for Malvina Elizabeth "Mallie" Pratt, 86, of Syracuse, will be 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel officiating. Graveside service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
Miss Pratt died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 6, 1915, in the Bear Creek community in Hamilton County, the daughter of James Benton and Lucy Elton Stone Pratt. She lived on the Bear Creek family farm until the family moved to Syracuse when she was 4. In 1933, she graduated from Syracuse High School, where she received numerous music awards and was known as a fast typist.
A music lover, she played the piano, flute and violin. She continued her education by taking the Etude Music Correspondence Course. In 1939, she moved to Wichita and it was there that she performed piano recitals on a local radio station. A short time later, she moved to Topeka, where she worked for the State of Kansas. She then took a position with the U.S. government and worked during World War II as a head supervisor in Washington, D.C. In 1952, she returned to Wichita and worked for Goodyear Tire Co. In 1958, she moved back to Syracuse and sold tickets at the Northrup Theater and gave private piano lessons at her home.
Miss Pratt attended Syracuse First United Methodist Church, was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing genealogy research, collecting jewelry and painting.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Louise Goeller, Wichita, and Erma Lucile Walters, Oklahoma City; three nephews; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers, James Benton Pratt Jr. and Arthur Darnell Pratt; a brother-in-law; and a nephew.
Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight and 9 a.m. to noon MDT Tuesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse, in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
Milton J. Heinz
Vigil service for Milton J. Heinz, 89, of Dodge City and formerly of Kinsley, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Nicanor Ferangco officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Kinsley.
Mr. Heinz died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1913, at Kinsley, the son of Peter J. and Cathryn Weikert Heinz.
A retired farmer, he belonged to St. Nicholas Church of Kinsley.
On Nov. 11, 1935, he married Sybil M. Kingry at Wichita. She died Sept. 25, 2002. He also was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by a son, Larry Heinz, Garden City; two daughters, Julie Gleason, Dodge City, and Mary Beth Herrmann, Prosper, Texas; a brother, Elmer Heinz, Seal Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas Endowment Fund, in care of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.
Archie Leonard Yost
MONTEZUMA - Archie Leonard Yost, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident.
He was born Nov. 28, 1925, at Montezuma, the son of Gerhard N. and Ida Ratzlaff Yost.
On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Lorene M. Nikkel at Hillsboro. They moved from Scott City to Montezuma in 1963. Mr. Yost had been in the drywall business. He was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by a son, Edward Yost, St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Charlene Dirks, Leoti; a brother, Paul Yost, Montezuma; his stepmother, Leona Yost, Montezuma; four sisters, Marie Nichols, Macon, Miss., Frances Schmidt, Stella Schmidt and Esther Unruh, all of Montezuma; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His wife died Jan. 27, 2002. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Yost; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Curtis Yost.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma. Charles Schmidt and Glen Yost, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.

Larry R. Donelson
COPELAND - Larry R. Donelson, 59, a minister at Copeland, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in Branson, Mo.
He was born Nov. 18, 1942, at Plattsburg, Mo., the son of Charley Everett and Lena Ellen Foster Donelson. He grew up in Kansas City, Mo., living there until he entered the ministry in 1962. Ordained in 1977, he had pastored churches in Louisiana, Mo., Troy, Mo., and in Pratt and Copeland.
Mr. Donelson enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, and also enjoyed traveling, photography, oil painting and cooking. His greatest enjoyment was preaching and teaching the gospel, which he did for more than 40 years.
On Jan. 14, 1994, he married Patricia Jane Gilstrap at Wichita. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Garren R. Donelson, Pratt; a daughter, Sherrene A. Donelson Whitson, Wichita; two stepdaughters, Patricia Beth Lozoya and Grace Sue Patton, both of Cunningham; two stepsons, Jim Patton, Cunningham, and John Patton, Pratt; three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Holt, Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Gary W. Donelson, Lathrop, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Shirley Kay Donelson.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church, Copeland, with Reed Koehn and Ron Jantz officiating. Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Maude Cemetery
in Cunningham.

William Lacy Bayless
Funeral for William Lacy Bayless, 87, of Dodge City, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City, with full military rites conducted by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714.
Mr. Bayless died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City.
He was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Finney County, the son of William Fred and Florence Amos Bayless. He attended school in Kalvesta.
A lifetime resident of Ford and Finney counties, he was a farmer and custom harvester, traveling from southern Oklahoma to the Canadian border every year for 32 years. He also worked for Winter Livestock and Winter Feedyard.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, serving as a platoon commander of a tank destroyer unit in the 10th Armored Division. He fought in several theaters of war, including the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He received numerous commendations and medals, including the Purple Heart.
On Aug. 4, 1946, he married Vernita "Nita" Heyen at Dodge City. She died April 11, 1988. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Edward and Fred Bayless; and a sister, Edith Umstot.
Survivors include a son, Dale, and three sisters, Grace Winter, Marie Sullivan and Aielene Dansel, all of Dodge City; and a grandson.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the William L. Bayless Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Margaret Josephine Wilson
ULYSSES - Margaret Josephine Wilson, 85, of Ulysses, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Pottawatomie County, the daughter of Josiah and Catharine Brannick LaFontaine Brown.
After graduating from Wamego High School and business school at St. Joseph, she worked as a bookkeeper for a doctor in St. Joseph. She moved to Ulysses in 1966 and worked as a medical secretary at a medical clinic for 30 years.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, was president of the Wamego Alumni Association in 1962, and served as worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 76 in Wamego. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
On May 2, 1937, she married Verland Fecht at Woodbine. He died in 1966. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Fecht; and her half sisters and brothers, Rose, Martha, Simon, Leo LaFontaine Sr. and Clara LaFontaine Bentley.
On Jan. 22, 1973, she married Melvin Wilson at Las Vegas. He survives. She also is survived by a son-in-law; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one stepson, Lenord Wilson, Ulysses; a brother, John Brown, Manhattan; and a sister, Roberta Brewer, Ulysses.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Order of Eastern Star Rites by Ulysses Eastern Star No. 471 will follow. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wamego Cemetery, with the Rev. Cam McConnell officiating.

Jennie Jane Quint
Jennie Jane Quint, 78, of Commerce City, Colo., died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Westminster, Colo.
She was born Jan. 8, 1924, at Fort Morgan, Colo., one of 12 children born to John Franklin and Pansy Blossom Place Roe.
On May 11, 1942, she married Isidor Quint in Colorado. They established their home in Commerce City in 1952.
A homemaker, Mrs. Quint enjoyed caring for her family, liked to play cards with her friends, and also enjoyed bowling. She and her husband enjoyed making quilts for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Harold Quint, Thornton, Colo., Sandra Henderson and Tarry Quint of Commerce City, and Judy Nichols, Copeland; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Kientz; and two brothers, Glen Roe and Frank Roe.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Chapel, Thornton. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Aurora, Colo.
Visitation hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel, 10201 Grant St.
Dwayne C. Schmidt
TRIBUNE - Dwayne C. Schmidt, 76, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
He was born April 1, 1926, near Turon in Reno County, the son of Albert Nesson and Margaret Jeffers Schmidt.
A farmer and stockman, he had been a Greeley County resident since 1947. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, Greeley County Antiquers, Greeley County Historical Society and the ASC Office Board of Directors in Greeley County, was a 4-H leader for many years in Greeley County, and was a Greeley County Extension official, all at Tribune. He also belonged to Anthem Masonic Lodge of Scott City, Order of the Eastern Star at Garden City, Kiowa County Grazing Association in Kiowa County, Colo., and the Lions Club in Towner, Colo.
On Dec. 25, 1948, he married Edith E. Mathews at Tribune. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Steve Schmidt, Tribune; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Graham, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Donald Schmidt, Sublette, and Darrel Schmidt, Hugoton; two sisters, Marjorie Trickey, Sublette, and Glenda Koehn, Sharon Springs; a sister-in-law, Virginia Lee Mathews, Tribune; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Leo King.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. MST Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Roland Emond officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with full military honors provided by the Tribune VFW.
Visitation hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to the Greeley County Emergency Medical Technicians or the Melvin O. Kuder Senior Center, both in care of the funeral home.
