Elizabeth Koehn Conquest
Mrs. Conquest died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident since March 12, moving from Newton.
She was born Jan. 17, 1913, at Chickasha, Okla., the daughter of Solomon C. and Julia Schmidt Koehn.
Mrs. Conquest was a housekeeper for Halstead Hospital in Halstead and was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.
On May 17, 1969, she married Glen Conquest at Newton. He died in January 1974. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Alvin and Lewis Koehn; a sister, Mamie Koehn; and a nephew.
Survivors include eight nephews, Paul, Earl, Jay Dean and James R. Koehn, all of Montezuma, Leroy and Lawrence Koehn, both of Copeland, DeeWayne Koehn, Livingston, Calif., and Galen Koehn, Olathe, Colo.; three nieces, Fern Jantz, Montezuma, Delores Unruh, Moundridge, and Valetha Koehn of Burns; and a niece-in-law.

Lawrence 'Larry' Wasson
Funeral for Lawrence R. "Larry" Wasson, 66, of Belpre, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Macksville, with the Rev. Dr. David Upp officiating. Burial will be in Belpre Cemetery.
Mr. Wasson died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Galichia Park Hospital in Wichita.
He was born March 20, 1936, at Garden City, the son of Lawrence O. and Beatrice A. Wasson. He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture education.
A Belpre resident for 12 years, moving from Wilroads Gardens, he was an educator. He had previously resided in Holcomb for 18 years. He was a member of Belpre United Methodist Church, the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, and the National Education Association.
On June 3, 1956, he married Fredys L. Miller at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by three sons, Larry V. Wasson, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Edwin E. Wasson of Baldwin, and Rodney R. Wasson, Sublette; three daughters, Kay Luna, Leavenworth, Dawn D. Thiel, Garden City, and Marla M. Wasson, Denver; a sister, Peggy Schmidt, Golden, Colo.; a brother, Kenneth Wasson, Rolla; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Arin A. Wasson.
Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the ABC Pregnancy Center in Garden City or Children's Logopedics of Wichita, both in care of Minnis Chapel, St. John.
James S. 'Jim' Terrill
SYRACUSE - James S. "Jim" Terrill, 86, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born March 20, 1916, at Ulysses, the son of Colyar St. Claire Terrill and Carrie Arbuckle Alexander. He grew up in Ulysses, graduating from high school there in 1933. He attended Hutchinson Junior College for two years before going on to graduate school at Kansas University in Lawrence to get his law degree in 1939.
In February 1940, he moved to Syracuse where he began his law practice. He also was an abstractor and did tax preparation until his retirement in the late 1980s.
Mr. Terrill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse, serving as an elder, trustee and treasurer for 15 years. He was a Rotarian, a past master and a 32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He also belonged to the Lions Club, was a 50-year member of the Kansas Bar Association, and was past president of the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce. He had served as Hamilton County Attorney three times, was a former Syracuse City Attorney and Syracuse School Attorney, was a board member of the Hamilton County Development Association, and belonged to the School Bond Committee and the School Task Force Committee which was instrumental in getting the new Syracuse High School and school improvements. He also helped organize the local VFW and was the first commander of that group and the American Legion. From 1942 to 1945, he was in the U.S. Air Force-Eagle Squadron during World War II, serving in England.
He enjoyed baseball and had played in the Semi-Professional Baseball League of Southwest Kansas and was instrumental in organizing the Syracuse Little League Baseball where he also was a coach. He also announced at the Syracuse High School football games in the 1960s and 1970s. He enjoyed his friends, gardening, and spending time with his family and four grandsons.
On Oct. 4, 1945, he married Nelda Northrup at Syracuse. They enjoyed collecting antiques, and owned and operated the "Antiquities Shoppe" in Syracuse. For more than 62 years, he was involved in Syracuse and Hamilton County, working in the public and private sector of the community.
He is survived by his wife, Syracuse; two daughters, Candy Richard, Turpin, Okla., and Holly Lull, Overland Park; four grandsons; a sister, Clare Terrill, Santa Maria, Calif.; and a cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Milne.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse. Graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Gary R. Schuetz
Gary R. Schuetz, 53, a former Garden City resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at his home in Pensacola, Fla.
He was born Aug. 18, 1949, at Hoxie, the son of Raymond and Edna Garner Schuetz. He attended St. Mary's School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Garden City High School and from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Schuetz was a medic in the Vietnam War, retiring in 1990 from the U.S. Navy as a Warrant Officer. He worked as a physician's assistant at Corry Branch Medical Clinic, was a member of St. Mary Church in Pensacola, was a Knights of Columbus officer, and belonged to the St. Mary Pro-Life Committee. His hobbies included genealogy.
On March 3, 1979, he married Ruby Gonzales in Long Beach, Calif. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Nathaniel, and a daughter, Krystle, both of the home; his parents, Garden City; two brothers, Tom, Holcomb, and Dan, Northampton, England; and three sisters, Anita Dunlap, Dodge City, Pam Gottschall, Kansas City, and Erica Beeson, Scott City.
Rosary was 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, Pensacola. Funeral was 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at St. Mary Church in Pensacola, with the Revs. Eugene Casserly, Dominic Phan Sa, Dominic Dat Tran, Roger Boucher, Eugene Pathe and the Rev. Lt. Quang Tran officiating. Burial followed in Barrancas National Cemetery, with the Knights of Columbus serving as honor guard and full military honors conducted.
A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 509 St. John St. in Garden City, with a supper for the family and friends to follow at 6 p.m. in the St. Mary School cafeteria.

Dorothy Charlene English
A memorial service for Dorothy Charlene English, 58, is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bible Christian Church, Garden City.
Mrs. English died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, following a short illness.
She was born Aug. 21, 1944, at Joplin, Mo.
On Sept. 3, 1967, she married James L. English. He died Oct. 3, 1987.
Memorials in her name are suggested to the donor's choice of charity, such as the Area Mental Health Center, a park bench in her memory, or Bible Christian Church Benevolence. Chi Kim Thi Nguyen
She was born Sept. 29, 1984, in Vietnam, the daughter of Nguyen Nguyen and Thao Thi Pham.
A Garden City resident for 18 months, moving from Vietnam, she was a sophomore at Garden City High School and a member of the Asian Club. She also belonged to the Upward Bound program at Garden City Community College, and enjoyed singing, seeking adventures, cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her parents, of the home; three brothers, Tuan Anh Vu Nguyen, Quan Anh Vu Nguyen and Nam Hoai Vu Nguyen, all of Columbia, Tenn.; two sisters, Phuong Lan Thi Nguyen and Lan Phuong Thi Nguyen, both of Vietnam; one nephew; and three nieces.
Funeral will be noon Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. John P. Zoschke officiating. Burial will take place later in Vietnam.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Mable Moody
Graveside service for Mable Moody, 93, was to be 2 p.m. today at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating.
Miss Moody died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Feb. 23, 1909, at Okemah, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Rosella Conner Moody.
A Garden City resident since 1911, moving from Oklahoma, she was known throughout the city as "The Hat Lady." She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Chester Moody; and four sisters, Lois Hiebert, Hettie Moody, Effie McQueen and Cora Marks.

Edna M. Keller
Edna M. Keller, 92, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at her daughter's home in rural Ensign.
She was born May 10, 1910, at Clements, the daughter of Agustus F. and Ethelind Pyles Shaft. She attended Salt City Business College.
A longtime Hutchinson resident, she had worked at Hutchinson Public Library before her retirement. She was a charter member of Park Place Christian Church.
On Jan. 14, 1946, she married Victor E. Keller. He died April 24, 1978. She also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Dorothy J. Thomas; a stepson, Richard V. Keller; and a sister, Gertrude L. Fritzemeyer.
She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Padilla, Ensign, and Sandra S. Keller, Ingalls; a stepdaughter, Helen M. Mueller, Branson, Mo.; a brother, Agustus Shaft Jr., Atwater, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park, Hutchinson, with Dr. William T. Nowlan officiating. Memorials are suggested to Park Place Christian Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Forest W. Burgett
DEERFIELD - Funeral for Forest W. Burgett, 78, was to be 10:30 this morning at Deerfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial was to follow in Deerfield Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Garden City Area Veterans.
Mr. Burgett died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Nov. 8, 1923, at Gage, Okla., the son of Loyd Clair and Inez Mildred Hunter Burgett. When he was young, the family moved to Neosho Rapids, where he lived until moving to Garden City in 1935.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, serving from September 1943 to December 1945 in the Pacific. He returned to Garden City after the service and was employed by Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co., based out of Kansas City and Shallow Water. He moved to Deerfield in 1973 and was employed by Santa Fe Motors until retiring in 1995.
Mr. Burgett was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer and belonged to the choir. He also belonged to the Deerfield Lions Club, and the VFW, American Legion, Eagles Lodge and Odd Fellows Lodge, all at Garden City. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, dancing and especially spending time with his family.
On Sept. 22, 1969, he married Neva Maxine Shultz at Clayton, N.M. She survives. He also is survived by four sons, Forrest Wayne Burgett, Overland Park, Robert Burgett, Midwest City, Okla., Rodney Burgett, Shantilly, Va., and Mack Johnson, Pine, Colo.; a daughter, Maxyne Rome, Hugoton; a sister, Eunice Whitman, Goodland; two brothers, Ray Lalicker, Goodland, and Jerry Lalicker, Garden City; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Edward; a daughter, Jeanne Truluve; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
