Max Craig
Max Craig, 48, a former Garden City resident, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, while horseback riding near Ken-Caryl Ranch in Littleton, Colo.
He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southwestern College in Winfield, and a master's of business administration in finance from the University of Kansas.
In 1977, he went to work in Ford Motor Co.'s finance department. He joined PepsiCo Inc. in 1980. In 1987, he transferred to PepsiCo's Taco Bell unit and moved up through the company before being named chief financial officer in 1997.
Last summer, he and his wife, Diana, moved to Littleton so he could take the top financial job at New World Restaurant Group Inc., the parent company of Einstein Bros. Bagels. He came to the company from Yum! Brands Inc., where he had been CFO of the company's Taco Bell unit.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, Richard and Verna Dean Craig of Sunset, Ariz.; three grown children, Kimberly Wine, Coto de Casa, Calif., Stephanie, Sacramento, Calif., and Jeffrey, Washington, D.C.; and a grandson.
Private services took place Tuesday.
Paul Orozco Jr.
Rosary for Paul Orozco Jr., 62, of Lamar, Colo., will be 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Lamar. Deacon Henry Wertin will officiate. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Anthony A. Wojcinski officiating. Burial will follow in the Veteran's Section of Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Orozco died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at his home in Lamar, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A longtime resident of Lamar, he was born there on March 10, 1940.
He is survived by a daughter, Silvia Orozco, Cicero, Ill.; a granddaughter; three sisters, Sister Teresa L. Orozco, San Antonio, Susanna Stegman and Laura Denice Orozco-Estep, both of Lamar; two brothers, Luiz-Ramon Orozco Sr., Garden City, and Vincent R. Orozco, Sterling, Colo.; and his mother, Josie Orozco. He was preceded in death by his father, Pascual M. "Paul" Orozco; and a son, Mark Orozco.
Visitation hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Peacock Funeral Home, Lamar.
Margaret Ellen Clinesmith
HUGOTON - Margaret Ellen Clinesmith, 55, of Liberal, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born March 14, 1947, at Elkhart, the daughter of Leo Howard and Leone Margaret Ipson Clinesmith.
A lifetime resident of the area, she worked for the Dollar General Store, cleaning and stocking. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include four brothers, Weldon and Robert Clinesmith, both of Rolla, Charles Clinesmith, Hugoton, and Ramon Clinesmith, Ulysses; and three sisters, Phyllis Crawford, Hugoton, Esther Smith, Canon City, Colo., and Norma Keener, Hulbert, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jimmy and Harold Clinesmith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Rolla, with the Rev. Jerry Odle officiating. Burial will be in Rolla Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 6 to 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to Bethphage, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Marie May Groves
HUGOTON - Funeral for Marie May Groves, 93, of Hugoton, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Assembly Of God Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mrs. Groves died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Hugoton, where she had been a resident.
She was born May 29, 1909, in Stevens County, the daughter of Albert and Augusta May Mantzke.
She married James A. "Dude" Groves. They then moved from Alva, Okla., to Hugoton. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Hoyt Groves; a brother, Frank Mantzke; a sister, Emma Mosher; a nephew; and a niece.
Survivors include two nephews, Larry Mantzke, Hugoton, and Frank Dwayne Mantzke, Fort Smith, Ark.; a niece, Francine Colella, Longmont, Colo.; and a niece-in-law.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Bonnie Ruth Eckas
Johnson - Funeral for Bonnie Ruth Eckas, 64, of Johnson, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Rev. Kevin Seuser officiating. Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson.
Mrs. Eckas died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at her home.
She was born March 8, 1938, at Manter, the daughter of Milton Earl and Audra L. Ogle Burnett. In 1946, the family moved to Greeley, Colo. They returned to Stanton County in 1962.
Mrs. Eckas had been the Stanton County Clerk of the District Court for 28 years. In 1995, she became the Chief Clerk for the 26th Judicial District and served in that position until her retirement in June 2000.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manter, served as the church treasurer, belonged to United Methodist Women, Joyfull Noise Bell Choir and Meadowlark Club, and was past president of the Kansas Association of District Court Clerks and Administrators in 1981.
On July 22, 1956, she married Robert Eckas at Greeley. He survives. She also is survived by a son, Kevin Eckas, Augusta; a daughter, Terri Ross, Grand Junction, Iowa; two sisters, Velda Folger, Manter, and Cliffie De Casper, Carson City, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marvin McMichael
Marvin McMichael, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born June 18, 1912, at Rago, the son of Frank E. and Lewren Wilson McMichael. He grew up in the Menno community of Kearny County.
A longtime resident of Garden City, he farmed and then worked as a mechanic at Western Motor Co. for 34 years. He was a member of First Christian Church of Garden City where he served as a deacon and then deacon emeritus, maintained the first church bus and chaired several committees. He was a Boy Scout leader for 15 years and belonged to Order of Arrow in Boy Scouts. His special interests were fishing and building things out of wood, such as airplanes, jewelry cases, trash containers, doll furniture and other items.
On May 14, 1936, he married Twila M. Lee at Syracuse. She died July 13, 1997. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson; a brother, Paul McMichael; two sisters, Devena McGee and Latha Gleason; and an infant sister.
He is survived by two sons, Marvin D. McMichael, Missoula, Mont., and Jim M. McMichael, Fort Scott; a daughter, Donna L. McKedy, Garden City; a brother, Howard McMichael, Lakin; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund or the Low Vision Group of Garden City, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
H. Richard Tuttle
H. Richard Tuttle, 63, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 5, 1939, at Jetmore, the son of Harry Russell and Alice Vivian Glunt Tuttle. He attended rural schools at Jetmore and Kalvesta, attended Garden City High School and graduated from Beeler High School.
Mr. Tuttle worked with his brother in construction for 24 years before becoming a truck driver. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Garden City and the Coffee Bunch Group. He enjoyed woodworking, having made many items to give to people. He also enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, taking flowers to the various coffee shops and being around his grandchildren.
He married Marie Ellis on Sept. 2, 1961, at Scott City. On Aug. 27, 1973, he married Ida M. Smith at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by four daughters, Tawnya M. Barrett, St. Cloud, Fla., Shayna L. Tuttle, Port Orange, Fla., Yolanda M. Daniels, Joplin, Mo., and Terressa Hindman, Garden City; two sons, Lloyd Tuttle, Scott City, and H. Richard Tuttle II, Boise, Idaho; a stepson, James R. Wilmot, Garden City; three sisters, Vivian Ashcroft, Tulsa, Okla., Virginia Guffey, Conway, Ark., and Twila Henry of Hesston; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dale, LaVerne and Lloyd Tuttle.
Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. John L. Williams officiating.

Marie Brenn
Marie Brenn, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 13, 1926, at Colby.
A lifetime resident of Colby, she was a retired service representative with Southwestern Bell Telephone. She was a member of Colby United Methodist Church, Colby Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 442, VFW Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers and the National Foster Grandparent Program.
She is survived by two sons, David Brenn, Garden City, and Danny Brenn, Colby; two daughters, LeAnn Nickel and MarCella Tipton, both of Wichita; three brothers, Matt Hamill of Colby, Wayne Hamill, Ontario, Calif., and Rusty Hamill, Fort Collins, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Alton J. Brenn, died in April 1999.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Colby United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Mardock officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery
in Colby.

Glenn E. Truitt
HOLCOMB - Glenn E. Truitt, 95, a former Holcomb resident, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002.
He was born March 1, 1907, at Holcomb and attended school there.
Mr. Truitt was retired from Northern Natural Gas Co., after working there for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, and was a member of VFW Post No. 35 and the Masonic Lodge.
His wife of 56 years, Helen, died in 1989. After her death, he moved to Oklahoma to be with his daughters.
He is survived by two daughters, Glenda Ryan, Catoosa, Okla., and Sue Martinez, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Hazel Lowe, Burbank, Calif., and Dorothy Morrin, Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson and a granddaughter.
A family service is planned at Floral Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Okla. Graveside service was to be 3 p.m. today in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
