Lewis H. Yakel
LAKIN - Lewis H. Yakel, 75, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
He was born Nov. 21, 1926, in northern Kearny County, the son of Fred and Edith Margret Stitt Yakel. A lifetime Kearny County and Lakin resident, he attended Harmony Hill and Columbia country schools.
He served in the U.S. Army from February 1946 to September 1947 before returning to Kearny County where he worked as a custom cutter and truck driver. He was owner and operator of Yakel Trucking for many years and also worked for the past several years with Bless Trucking and Golden Grain. He enjoyed his work in harvesting and truck driving, working with kids and mechanics.
Mr. Yakel was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge No. 289 at Lakin, Midian Shrine at Wichita, West Santa Fe Trail Shrine Club at Lakin and the Wichita Consistory Scottish Rite.
In 1954, he married Dorothy Williams at Clayton, N.M. She died in 1966. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Yvonne Yakel; two brothers, Merle and Melvin Yakel; and three sisters, Ruby Yakel, Alice Yakel and Ruth Yakel.
In 1967, he married Donna Douglas at Lakin. He married Dee Edwards on Feb. 29, 1984, at Clayton. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Rick Yakel, Lakin; four brothers, Marvin Yakel, Independence, Mo., Raymond Yakel, Lakin, Wayne Yakel, Eldorado Springs, Mo., and Dean Yakel, Fort Scott; four sisters, Freda Scott, Garden City, Helen Hayzlett and Carmen Hayzlett, both of Lakin, and Carol Yakel, Eldorado Springs; and several stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Lakin with the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery
with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard and Masonic graveside rites conducted by Emerald Lodge No. 289 of Lakin.

Wayne E. Krebs
TRIBUNE - Funeral for Wayne E. Krebs, 67, will be 10:30 a.m. MST Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Mr. Krebs died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Lamar, Colo., following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 28, 1934, at Montrose, Colo., the son of James M. and Ida M. Berry Krebs.
A Lamar resident since September 2001, moving from Tribune, he was a maintenance technician at Lamar Truck Stop.
In January 1972, he married Salome Stanley at Raton, N.M. She died Feb. 28, 1996, at Tribune. On Nov. 29, 1996, he married Mary Ann Kuder Martin at Tribune. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Terry Krebs, Colorado; six daughters, Della Mull, Hopkinton, Iowa, Deliteful Quintana, Pueblo, Colo., Drucilla Pacheco, Walsenburg, Colo., Connie Douglas of Otis, Dorsey Smith, Tribune, and Kera Martin, Lamar; two sisters, Elda, Telluride, Colo., and Hazel, Montrose; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Wayne Krebs Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Vurva H. Scott
Funeral for Vurva H. Scott, 87, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bible Christian Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Mark Ingmire and Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Scott died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
She was born Aug. 8, 1914, at Westmoreland, the daughter of Louie C. and Ina F. Wilber Huckstadt.
A Garden City resident since 1916, moving from Westmoreland, she had been a bookkeeper for Myers Creamery in Garden City for 34 years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
On Aug. 10, 1935, she married Gerald P. Scott at Garden City.
He died July 5, 1946, at Garden City. In 1950, she married Roy Sutton at Garden City.
They later divorced and, in 1995, he died in Topeka.
She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn Ann Scott and Judith Kay Harrison.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Scott, Garden City, and Robert Sutton, South Hutchinson; two brothers, H. Wilber Huckstadt, Tacoma, Wash., and Lyman C. Huckstadt, Garden City; a sister, Louise H. Scott, Garden City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City.

Damon A. Hubbard
HUGOTON - Damon A. Hubbard, 69, of Laramie, Wyo., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Denver.
He was born Jan. 5, 1933, at Hugoton, the son of Byron and Helen Dies Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard was a newspaper editor, publisher and printer, served as a dance instructor for 10 years, belonged to the Eagles and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Rotary Club.
On March 13, 1965, he married Linda Gomez at Lakewood, Colo.
She survives.
He also is survived by a daughter, Charta Hubbard; and a son, Drais Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Hugoton Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Aenk officiating.
Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.
Orpha S. Boots
Orpha S. Boots, 96, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 18, 1905, at Byers in Pratt County, the daughter of Arthur Eugene and Pearl Simmons Randle.
After receiving a teacher's certificate from Friends College, she taught school in Isabel and gave piano lessons.
A homemaker, she had lived in Garden City for 15 years, moving from Isabel.
She was a member of Isabel United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution and American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Garden Club, all at Isabel, and was a Sunday School teacher.
On July 25, 1928, she married Clyde Sullivan Boots at Wichita. He died Aug. 17, 1984.
She is survived by a son, Edwin E. Boots, Garden City; a daughter, Clydene Boots, Murietta, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Isabel Cemetery, with the Rev. Harry Betts officiating.
The family will greet friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt.

Mildred C. Redd
Mildred C. Redd, 88, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Finney County, the daughter of William F. and Ethel Foulston Lindner.
A Syracuse resident since 1998, formerly of Garden City and Hutchinson, she was a retired teacher for the Kearny County school district.
She was a member of Bible Christian Church and the Senior Center of Finney County, both at Garden City.
On June 10, 1946, she married Clifford Redd at Dodge City. He died Jan. 4, 1989, at Hutchinson.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Merl Lindner; and a sister, Thelma Palmer.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Addie Mae Lindner, Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Eugene Teel officiating. Private family burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Hutchinson.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Everett S. Mills
SUBLETTE - Funeral for Everett S. Mills, 82, of Sublette, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church, Sublette, with the Rev. David Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with military graveside services conducted by Satanta American Legion Post No. 276.
Mr. Mills died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge.
He was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Pawnee County, the son of Arel De'Estang and Amy Marie Kindsvater Mills.
On Sept. 2, 1941, he married Rosalie Marena Hendershot at Garden City.
They moved from Garden City to Sublette in November 1957.
A farmer and contractor, Mr. Mills was a member of the VFW in Garden City, held several state offices and local offices in the VFW, was past commander of John Haskell Post VFW in Garden City and president of the 590 1st Boat Regimen Engineers Reunion and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed his family activities, going to his Army reunions throughout the United States and playing Santa Claus for many years for Sublette American Legion, Sublette Early Childhood Classroom, VFW at Garden City and the Messerly family events.
His wife died Aug. 8, 1993.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law; and two sisters, Vivian Waterhouse and Glenna Orth.
He is survived by two sons, Gayle Mills, Englewood, and Dale Mills, Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Karen Messerly, Sublette; two brothers, Arthur Mills, Chanute, and Marlin Wayne Mills, Mulvane; two sisters, Mildred Sager, Jetmore, and Betty Triplett, Olathe; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.
