Elsie C. Dunham
COPELAND - Elsie C. Dunham, 95, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Copeland, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Aurora.
The daughter of John and Nellie (Bentley) Dunham, she was born Dec. 24, 1906, at Isabel.
She was a school teacher and taught for 46 years around Copeland, Dodge City, Pueblo, Colo., and Venezuela.
She is survived by one sister, Laurel Grace McAdam, Las Vegas; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Everett, Ralph and Dillard Dunham; and a sister, Lydia Fleming.
Funeral service will be Saturday in Aurora. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Copeland Cemetery, Copeland, with burial following.

Verna (Kreutzer) Goetz Johnson
Verna (Kreutzer) Goetz Johnson, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born June 26, 1913, in Liebenthal, the daughter of Joseph A. and Anna (Werth) Kreutzer. She attended school in Ness City and lived for a time in Wichita. She returned to Garden City in 1947, where lived the rest of her life. She was employed by the Spencer IGA Food Store's deli department for 29 years until her retirement.
She married Albert J. Goetz Sept. 22, 1947, in Garden City. He died Sept. 14, 1965. She married Leo Johnson Nov. 29, 1971, in Garden City. He died Nov. 1, 1989.
She was actively involved in domestic work, and her interests included cooking and gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 2279.
She is survived by three sisters, Otilla Dater and Ludwina Horning of Garden City and Lenora Sauer of Hays, Clementine Brungardt, Wichita; a stepson, Mack Johnson of Arvada, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Maxine Johnson Rome of Hugoton; and four stepgranddaughters.
She was preceded in death by both parents; both husbands; two sisters, Marie Kreutzer and "Sister" M. Clementine; one infant sister; one brother, Fred S. Kreutzer; and one infant brother.
The vigil service was Thursday night at Garnand Funeral home in Garden City. Calling hours were Thursday, also at Garnand Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was to be 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Garden City, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. She will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.

Dick R. Woods I
Dick R. Woods I, 100, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 23, 1902, in Schuyler, Neb., the son of Otho G. and Mabel M. Robertson Woods.
A life-long farmer, he had been a resident of Garden City since 1929, moving from Plains.
On June 4, 1929, he married Ruby G. Toland at Ashland. She died Jan. 4, 1996.
He is survived by two sons, Forrest Woods, Garden City, and Dick R. Woods II, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Gwen Reid, San Marcos, Texas, Delores Moore, El Cajon, Calif., Ruby G. Howell, Garden City; two brothers, Max Woods, Freemont, Neb., and Fred Woods, Winner, S.D.; one sister, Octave Schoonhoven, Winner; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at a later date. There will be no local calling times.

Woodrow "Woodie" R. Schlegel
Woodrow "Woodie" R. Schlegel died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Alexander, the son of John and Mollie Moore Schlegel. He moved from Wichita to Dodge City, where he was a resident for 40 years. He was the owner and operator of Schlegel Feedlot Construction and also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Glenna Kvasnicka in Rush Center.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Jake Schlegel of Dodge City, Galen Schlegel of Garden City and Robert Schlegel of Denver; a daughter, Victoria Ward of Copeland; a sister, Alice Bruntz of Bazine; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dutch Schlegel; and two sisters, Pauline Searle and Alvina Schereth.
Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge, with Pastor Larry Donelson presiding and full military gravesides rites by Howard Gotschal of VFW Post No. 1714.

Dorothy Boldt
ULYSSES - Funeral for Dorothy Boldt, 88, of Ulysses, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.
Mrs. Boldt died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Aug. 4, 1914, at Lewis, the daughter of W.R. and Iva Jarvis McClaren. She attended Southwestern College, Winfield, and was active in the band and choir.
A Ulysses resident since 1947, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Monday Night Study Club and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, all at Ulysses, and was also active for years calling on people in the hospital.
On May 20, 1939, she married Earl Boldt at Winfield. He survives. She also is survived by a son, Gary Boldt, Ulysses; a daughter, Chari Shoemake, Overland Park; a sister, Norma Gatterman, Lewis; two grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin McClaren.

Roberto Carlos Rodriguez
ULYSSES - Funeral services for Roberto Carlos Rodriguez, 24, of Ulysses, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Primera Asablea De Dios Church, Ulysses with the Rev. Nicolas Robledo and Pastor Cecilia Gonzales presiding. Services for the family and friends will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Rodriguez died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the Satanta District Hospital, Satanta, as the result of a farm accident.
He was born Dec. 12, 1977, in Harris County, Texas, the son of Alcidez and Maria De Jesus (Lopez) Rodriguez.
He married Yesenia Consuelo Castilleja Dec. 18, 1993, at DR Arroyo, Mexico. He moved to Ulysses in 1994 from Donna, Texas.
He was a farm laborer and a member of the Primera Asamblea De Dios Church, of Ulysses.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Carlos and Alejandro Rodriguez of the home; his parents, of Ulysses; a twin brother, Juan Gabriel Rodriguez, Ulysses; and a sister, Aracely Rodriguez, Dallas.
A memorial has been established for the children in care of Grant County Funeral Home, 218 S. Main Street, Ulysses. Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, is in charge of the arrangements.
