Rich Allison
Rich Allison, 66, of Pratt, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Friendship Manor in Pratt.
Born at Cimarron on Sept. 1, 1935, he was the son of Earl B. and Eva L. Sultz Allison.
A Pratt resident for 38 years, Mr. Allison was a drywall contractor. He belonged to Our Savior Lutheran Church at Pratt and was a U.S. Army veteran.
On June 14, 1958, he married Jeanette M. Schindler at Natrona. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Mike Allison, Pratt, and Todd Allison, Belvidere; his mother, Eva Allison Frack, Cimarron; two sisters, LaRue Horton, Deerfield, and Mary Ellen Woods, Garden City; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pratt, with the Rev. Michael Schotte officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Melba Loretta Hobson
LEOTI - Melba Loretta Hobson, 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti.
She was born Oct. 17, 1910, at Leoti, the daughter of Pliny James and Mabel Maude Spear Stiles.
A lifetime resident of Leoti, she was a homemaker and belonged to the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Sunnyside FCE, all at Leoti.
On Aug. 1, 1939, she married Richard Owen Hobson at Leoti. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Howard Hobson, West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Joan Ayers, Leoti; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Preston Stiles, Anaheim, Calif., and Ira Vern Stiles, Scott City; and four sisters, Mae Finch, Colorado Springs, Colo., Doris Snell, Newberg, Ore., Eunice Bundy, Camas, Wash., and Shirley Jacobson, Fullerton, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and a sister.
Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or Wichita County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.
Arthur S. Friesen
MONTEZUMA - Arthur S. Friesen, 87, of Montezuma and formerly of Atwater, Calif., died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident since June 6, 1994.
He was born Nov. 10, 1914, at Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, the son of Johan and Barbara Sobering Friesen-Penner.
On Oct. 29, 1947, he married Lucille Dirks at Greensburg. After their marriage, they moved to Dodge City for a short time and then to Atwater, where they lived until 1994. While in Atwater, he was an almond farmer. He was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.
He is survived by three daughters, Andree Litwiller, Farmington, Ky., Barbara Nightengale and Cynthia Koehn, both of Scott City; a brother, Jim Friesen, Winnipeg, Manitoba; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous Penner relatives. His wife died June 4, 2002. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Andrew and Abe Friesen; and a sister, Helen Wiebe.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Scott Mennonite Church, Scott City. Richard Koehn, Ervin Nightengale, Charles Nightengale and Franklin Koehn, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Mark Dirks, minister, will officiate.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc., in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
Rex A. Ferrett
Memorial services for Rex A. Ferrett, 61, Lawrence, may be held at a later date. Cremation is planned.
Mr. Ferrett died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth.
He was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Vanderbilt, Michigan, the son of William and Ruby Holborn Ferrett. He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Ferrett worked for the City of Lawrence for several years. He later started his own fishing supplies business.
He married Carol J. Richards. She survives of the home.

Richard E. Avery
Graveside inurnment services for Richard E. Avery, 60, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Avery died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at his home. He retired as a police officer for the Kansas University Public Safety Department after nearly 20 years of service.
Local survivors include a brother, Gary Avery and wife Rita, Lawrence.
Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Charles David Reno
Graveside services with military honors for Charles David Reno, 71, Linwood, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Sidney Cemetery, Linwood, with Pastor Joe Igla officiating.
Mr. Reno died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 18, 1939, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Charley N. and Helen Walker Reno. He attended Shawnee Mission North High School. He later served in the United States Marine Corps in Japan and the Philippines.
Mr. Reno was employed by the United States Postal Service in Shawnee Mission, and retired in 1992 after 35 years of service. He attended Linwood Baptist Church, and was a Ham Radio operator. He loved his family.
He married Mary (Kathy) Holmes on Apr. 23, 1977 in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three children, Hugh Reno, Linwood, Joshua Reno, Overland Park, and Deanna Hanson, Fairway; a sister, Sharon Lydick, Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsey, and Kelsey; and one great grandchild, Emiliano.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed.

Jeffrey Dean Lowenthal
Memorial services for Jeffrey Dean Lowenthal, 54, Carrollton, Texas, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, with Pastor Dave Peterson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
He died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, in Carrollton.
He was born June 11, 1956, in Oakley, the son of Alfred and Ruth Hueftle Lowenthal.
He was educated in the Oakley and Colby public schools and attended Colby Community College.
Mr. Lowenthal farmed for his father and grandfather in Thomas County for seven years following high school graduation. He moved to Lawrence in 1980 and worked in sales. He specialized in waterbed sales and eventually moved into fine furniture sales when he relocated to Dallas in 1996.
He married Suzy Garrett in June 1983. They divorced in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Christina Janette, Overland Park; his mother, Ruth Lowenthal, Lawrence; a sister, Deb Teeter and husband Ron, Lawrence; two brothers, Richard Lowenthal and wife Kathy, Scott City, and David Lowenthal and wife Barbara, Lawrence; several nieces and nephews including Jackie Eastland and her husband Toby, Todd Isaac, and Blake Lowenthal, all of Lawrence; and two great-nieces, Taylor and Katelyn Eastland, Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Ruth Marie Cyr
Graveside inurnment services for Ruth Marie Cyr, 80, Eudora, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eudora City Cemetery. Cremation is planned.
Mrs. Cyr died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Medicalodges of Eudora.
She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Noble E. and Ruby O. Casin Nelson. She attended schools in Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Cyr was a homemaker, and she and her husband owned and operated the Gilded Cage in Eudora for many years. She enjoyed socializing, music, and country dancing.
She married Thomas E. “Ed” Cyr in 1968 in Nowata, Okla. He died Oct. 23, 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Webb, Lawrence, and Terry Baird, Eudora; three sons, Murl Hicks, Branson, Mo., James Hicks, Mesa, Ariz., and Dennis Hicks, Olathe; a brother Louis Nelson, Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Edith Owings, Judy Stanley, and Lela Kruse, all of Raytown, Mo.; ten grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
