Marjorie Fern Scott
ELKHART - Funeral for Marjorie Fern Scott, 79, of Elkhart, was to be 1 p.m. today at First Church of God, Elkhart, with the Rev. Ron Crosley officiating. Burial was to be in Satanta Cemetery.
Mrs. Scott died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Jan. 29, 1923, at Satanta, the daughter of William and Jane Means Beck.
An Elkhart resident since 1977, she was a homemaker, belonged to HDU at Flagler, Colo., and had been an Amway dealer at Elkhart.
On Dec. 24, 1945, she married Max Niel Scott at Garden City. He survives. She is also survived by four sons, Bill Scott, Colorado Springs, Colo., Tom and Ron Scott, both of Elkhart, and Dave Scott, Hereford, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Franklin D. Sewell
ULYSSES - Funeral for Franklin D. Sewell, 64, of Ulysses, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ, Ulysses, with the Rev. Warren Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Sewell died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born March 15, 1938, at Peoria, Ariz., the son of John Franklin and Mary Lillian Hood Sewell.
A Ulysses resident since 1961, he was employed by City Service and William's Natural Gas at Ulysses until his retirement in December 1994. He was a member of Church of Christ and enjoyed traveling, camping and watching the stock market.
On Dec. 18, 1956, he married Patricia Burrows at Hugoton. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Sewell, Houston, and Troy Dean Sewell, Olathe; two daughters, Beverly Ann Metcalf, Caldwell, and Peggy Suzanne Lamberson, Garden City; four brothers, Jarrel Sewell, Kingwood, Texas, Melvin Sewell, Tonganoxie, Gary Sewell, Joplin, Mo., and Maurice Sewell, Grove, Okla.; two sisters, Donna Lyles, Wichita, and Sharon Johnson, Pittsburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Verlin Sewell; a daughter, Theresa Munkres; and a son-in-law.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
Ken Maynard Veach
SYRACUSE - Ken Maynard Veach, 64, of Syracuse, died Sunday, July 7, 2002.
He was born Jan. 27, 1938, at Elkhart, the son of Linnie Roy and Marie Floyd Veach. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1957.
A Syracuse resident for most of his life, he had previously worked as a gas well pumper. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Jaycees and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, dancing and motorcycling. He was a dedicated Syracuse Booster Club member and Little League Baseball coach for several years and also could be seen on the sidelines at the high school football field.
On June 14, 1959, he married Carolyn Coleman at Syracuse. She died July 6, 1989. He also was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.
Survivors include a son, Shae Veach, Pratt; a daughter, Misti Simon, Syracuse; a brother, Dale Veach, Las Vegas; four sisters, Waneta Keyes, Washington, Patty Cheatum and Claudine Cheatum, both of Syracuse, and Reba McGonagle, Scott City; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 9 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Syracuse Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Edith N. Brush
Edith N. Brush, 90, of Larned, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned.
She was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Charles W. and Emma L. Shafer King.
A Larned resident since 1982, moving from Colorado, she was a practical nurse. She was a member of the Flying Farmers and had served on the Modoc School Board and the Scott City Election Board.
Survivors include two sons, James, Garden City, and John, Roundup, Mont.; a daughter, Marie, Larned; three sisters, Elma Kershner, Rozel, Leona Cane, Waggoner, Okla., and Hazel Woelk, Sheridan Lake, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation was arranged with Beckwith Mortuary Inc., Larned. A memorial service is planned for later.

Roberta Lee Childress
CIMARRON - Funeral for Roberta Lee Childress, 58, of Cimarron, will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City. Burial will be at the Cimarron Cemetery.
She died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
Born on Dec. 29, 1943, she was the daughter of Julia Carl Roenfeldt and D. E. "Bill" Sroufe. She married Arlen "Chili" Childress on Oct. 6, 1962, at Great Bend.
A resident of Cimarron since 1967, she operated a day-care center in her home for many years, acting as second mother for many of her kids. She was a member of Jackrabbits and enjoyed horse racing and bowling.
She was also a member of the Community Congregational Church of Garden City. For the past 19 years, she worked as an administrative assistant and public relations director at Ingalls Feed Yard.
She was preceded in death by her mother, and a brother, Robert Jack Bull.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Dalonda Jan Padilla, Liberal, and Shelley Silk, Bella Vista, Ark.; her parents, Bill and Vera Sroufe, Colby; three sisters, Robin Herrman, Garden City, Dee Carroll, Bountiful, Utah, and Wilma Alders, Florrissant, Mo.; one brother, James Sroufe, Woodside, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, are 5 to 8 p.m. today, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, 9 to 11 a.m. Monday.

Esther M. Church
DIGHTON - Funeral for Esther M. Church, 84, was Friday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
She died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at her home in Dighton.
She was born Dec. 5, 1917 in Dighton, the daughter of Richard Ernest and Eva Clair (Owen) Bush. A lifetime resident of Lane County, she attended Walnut Valley Grade School and graduated from Dighton High School. She married Winston L. Church Aug. 29, 1935 in Dighton. She helped him run the farm for 20 years and worked at American Legion Post No. 190 as a cook for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Evelyn Clark and Estelene Smith, and three brothers, Lee Bush, Robert Bush and an infant.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Church of Mustang, Okla., one brother, Bert Bush of Laramie, Wyo., one sister, Ethel Dodge of Waverly, Neb., one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, 145 N. Wichita, Dighton.
C. Richard Patterson
C. Richard Patterson, 63, died June 25, 2002, at his home in Garden City.
He was born June 18, 1939, in Garden City, the son of Orville Merritt and Pauline Chuesberg Patterson.
He was a lifetime resident of Garden City, graduate of the University of Kansas and the owner of Patterson Jewelry in Garden City. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City. He was very involved in the local and state Miss America organization and received numerous American Gem Society honors as well as recognition for his achievements in gemology.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother of Garden City, daughter Somer Lee Patterson, Winfield, brother Robert O. Patterson, Atlanta and sister Paulasue Sawyers, Garden City.
Memorial services will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dave Sweley officiating. Internment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Western Kansas Community Foundation or Donor's Choice in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Floyd E. Bartlett
DIGHTON - Floyd E. Bartlett, 79, of Dighton, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Scott City.
He was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Lane County, the son of Jasper Floyd and Mary U. (Graeff) Bartlett.
A lifetime resident of Lane County, he was the former manager of Farmers Co-op Oil & Supply.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dighton, the VFW Post 6438, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Dighton Rotary Club, the American Legion Post 190 and the Lane County Historical Society.
He served in the 10th Army Division of the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa and Siapian. He returned to Dighton after his discharge and went to work for the Farmers Co-op Oil & Supply for 35 years.
He enjoyed fishing and telling stories, as well as his marble collection, and playing the accordion in the local band.
In March of 1941, he married June D. Fairbank. They were later divorced. He is survived by his long-time companion, La Vona Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert D. Bartlett.
Other survivors include a daughter, Peggy Ann Little, of Stillwater, Okla.; two sons, Donald R. Bartlett, Wichita, and Gary L. Bartlett, Dighton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Boomhower Funeral Home. Memorial are suggested to American Legion Post 190 of Dighton, VFW Post 6438 or Dighton Rotary Club in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
