Raymond C. 'Slick' Majors
LEOTI - Funeral for Raymond Charles "Slick" Majors, 93, of Russell Springs, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Majors died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.
He was born Sept. 8, 1908, in Logan County, the son of Charles B. and Anna O'Neal Majors.
A lifetime resident of Logan and Wichita counties, he was a farmer and stockman. He belonged to St. Francis Episcopal Church and the Butterfield Historical Association, both at Russell Springs.
On Nov. 16, 1929, he married Viola E. Haddock at Russell Springs. She died March 23, 1993, at Leoti.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Hershberger, Russell Springs; a brother, George Majors, and a sister, Clara Sedoris, both of Nebraska City, Neb.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Long Term Care Unit or the Butterfield Historical Association, both in care of the funeral home.
Linda C. Ellis
Johnson CITY - Linda C. Ellis, 84, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born July 30, 1917, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of Philip and Marie Kathrine Bush Karb.
Mrs. Ellis had been a Stanton County resident since 1969, having previously resided in northeast Finney County, eastern Colorado and Garden City. She was a cook for the Garden City school system and Stanton County Hospital, and was a custodian at the Stanton County Court House. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing and camping, watching baseball, and spending time with her grandchildren.
On Oct. 3, 1935, she married Jimmie Lee Ellis at Garden City. He died Nov. 11, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include a son, Wesley Ellis, Johnson City; a daughter, Barbara Maerz, Lakin; a brother, Henry Karb, Tenino, Wash.; three sisters, Anna Laughlin and Lydia Quint, both of Garden City, and Irene Wade, Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Johnson City, with the Revs. Glenn Fogo and Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials to the donor's choice may be sent in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.
Mabel Conley
Mabel Conley, 97, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She was born Dec. 19, 1904, in Phillips County, the daughter of Asa and Bertha Larrick Lapham.
A Garden City resident since 1959, moving from Kendall, she was a homemaker and had worked as a cook for Garden City High School for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
On Sept. 12, 1923, she married Doran W. Conley at Tribune. He died Dec. 15, 1981, at Garden City. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include four daughters, Dora Wilson, Garden City, Rosie Graham, Lakin, Betty Wilson, Spring, Texas, and Fay Jefferson, Macedon, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or High Plains Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Pearl E. Kelley
LEOTI - Pearl Elizabeth Kelley, 89, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Facility in Leoti.
She was born July 1, 1912, at Jewell, the daughter of George A. and Maria B. Smith Williams.
A Leoti resident since 1969, moving from Fort Collins, Colo., she had been a certified nurse's aide, cook and laundress for 15 years at the Wichita County Long Term Care Facility. She attended the United Methodist Church in Leoti.
In 1928, she married Emmett Kelley at Jewell. He died in October 1975 at Wichita. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a granddaughter.
Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Taylor, Las Vegas, and Peggy Gish, Leoti; five stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Long Term Care Facility or the Wichita County Amusement Association, both in care of the funeral home, 4th and J streets, Leoti, KS 67861.
Edward W. Nusser
Edward W. Nusser, 79, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Haskell County, the son of John F. and Minnie M. Gede Nusser. He grew up on a farm in Haskell County and graduated from high school in Copeland.
A farmer and rancher for many years in Haskell County, he had resided in Garden City for the past 20 years. For 18 of those years, he independently operated a lawn care service here.
Mr. Nusser was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City. His special interests included visiting with people, working at his lawn care service, and farming and ranching back in his early years.
On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Ruthie Vagher at Granada, Colo. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Louis E. Nusser, Garden City; a daughter, Mary Baker, Wichita; a brother, Herbert Nusser, Greeley, Colo.; and five sisters, Edna Nelsen, Copeland, Ruth Wiens, Pratt, Grace Greenwood, Garden City, Lydia Springer and Leora Horst, both of Denver. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Edith Joan Nusser; and a grandson.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Jack L. Case
SCOTT CITY - Graveside service for Jack L. Case, 60, will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating.
Mr. Case died Monday, June 3, 2002, in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
He was born June 4, 1941, at Scott City, the son of Ray and Luella Conine Case. He was a graduate of Scott Community High School.
After his duty in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada where he lived until moving to San Antonio in 1990. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at San Antonio.
He is survived by a son, Casey Case of Regina, Saskatchewan; two daughters, Sherry Calver of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, and Dusti Bilendy, Longview, Wash.; a sister, Sue Pammenter, Scott City; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dwayne Case.

Tonja A. Holovach
SCOTT CITY - Tonja Ann Holovach, 46, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at her home in Wichita.
She was born July 28, 1955, at Oakley, the daughter of Selwin H. and Irmalee Lowe Eggleston.
A 1973 graduate of Scott Community High School, she earned a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University in 1996.
Mrs. Holovach had been a Wichita resident since 2000. A homemaker and abstractor, she belonged to the United Methodist Church of Scott City.
In September 1973, she married Jim Wilbanks at Scott City. She married Jay Holovach in 1981 at Las Vegas.
She is survived by two sons, Tyler and Tanner Wilbanks, both of Wichita; her mother, Scott City; a brother, Gary Eggleston, Scott City; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Revs. Mike McGuire and John Warring officiating.

Chelsie Deann Elbert
TRIBUNE - Graveside service for Chelsie Deann Elbert, the infant daughter of Dustin Richard Elbert and Jennifer Dawn Hatman, will be 11 a.m. MDT Thursday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating.
Chelsie died shortly after her birth Monday, June 3, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She is survived by her father, Colorado Springs, Colo.; her mother, Tribune; her grandparents, Carol Sue Graham, Tribune, Cheryl Ginest, Amarillo, Texas, and Jerry Blake, Liberal; her great-grandparents, Donald H. Hatman, and Mr. and Mrs. Cap Schiffelbein, Garden City; and her great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Carl Nail of Garden City.
