Gay Ross
HOLCOMB - Gay Ross, 69, a former Holcomb resident, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at her home in Neosho, Mo.
She was born April 28, 1933, at Rocky Ford, Colo., the daughter of Elbert and Helen Ritchey Saunders.
Mrs. Ross worked for many years as city clerk in Holcomb. She also worked as a secretary for a feed company and was a homemaker. A Neosho resident for 10 years, moving from Holcomb, she was a member of Neosho United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 20, 1950, she married Arlen Ross. He survives. She also is survived by five daughters, Gwendolyn Hibler, Montezuma, Pamela Shirar, Hanover Park, Ill., Jerri Reese and Gloria Jean Wortman, both of Neosho, and Patti Welch, Diamond, Mo.; a sister, Gwendolyn Gatto, Denver; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Neosho United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gene Cole and Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. After the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.

David L. Ellis
ELKHART - Graveside service for David L. Ellis, 68, of Elkhart, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart Cemetery, with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.
Mr. Ellis died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born Feb. 7, 1934, at Sallisaw, Okla., the son of Jesse and Ollie Mathews Ellis. An Elkhart resident since 1945, he was a truck driver for Morton County.
On July 6, 1960, he married Kay Gibbons at Raton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Alan Ellis, Holcomb; a daughter, Dindy Keating, Elkhart; two brothers, James Ellis, Walsh, Colo., and Leon Ellis, Elkhart; a sister, Reniece Simmons, Columbus; and five grandchildren.

Viola M. Hauschild
Funeral for Viola M. Hauschild, 84, of Sterling, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Midland United Church of Christ, Sterling, with the Rev. William J. Best officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Hauschild died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Dec. 24, 1917, at Little River, the daughter of Ellsworth and Edith May Kimble Goodrick.
A lifetime resident of the Sterling area, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Midland United Church of Christ and the Church Women's Guild of Sterling.
On April 5, 1936, she married Fredrick Hauschild at Nickerson. He died Sept. 8, 1995. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Weir and Harry Goodrick; and four sisters, Mary Kirby, Mabel Cory, Bernice Daily and Gladys Thompson.
She is survived by three sons, Myron L. Hauschild, Winchester, Va., Darrel Hauschild, Garden City, and Les Hauschild, Sterling; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Lewis L. Koehn
MONTEZUMA - Lewis L. Koehn, 83, died Friday, June 6, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident.
He was born Sept. 11, 1918, at Fairview, Okla., the son of Cornelius H. and Eva (Koehn) Koehn.
A Montezuma resident since 1946, moving from California, he worked for the Co-op Elevator in Montezuma. He was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.
On Sept. 21, 1952, he married Kleda A. Dirks at Montezuma. She died Feb. 3, 2002. He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susie Eck and Lorena Koehn.
He is survived by three sons, Charles and Dick Koehn, both of Montezuma, and Kenneth Koehn, Dodge City; a daughter, Karen Sue Koehn, Montezuma; two sisters, Adeline Koehn, Ulysses, and Edna Koehn, Cressey, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma. Lyndon Toews, Donald Koehn and Luther Smith, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Homeland Mennonite Church Cemetery, Montezuma.

Melba C. Davidson
Melba C. Davidson, 83, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born April 22, 1919, at Cimarron, the daughter of Owen Grant Jr. and Ada Bell Phelps. She grew up in the Cimarron area and attended Cimarron High School.
On May 28, 1936, she married Dale "John" Davidson at Garden City. After their marriage, they moved to a farm north of Cimarron. They moved to Garden City in 1983. A homemaker, Mrs. Davidson was a member of Southwind Country Club.
Her husband died April 10, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Brill.
She is survived by a daughter, Connie Beery, Cimarron; four grandsons; a granddaughter; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron Library or Garden Valley Retirement Village, both in care of the funeral chapel.
Theodore 'Ted' Gerritzen
LAKIN - Graveside service for Theodore "Ted' Gerritzen, 76, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lakin Cemetery, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating.
Mr. Gerritzen died Friday, June 7, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Jan. 30, 1926, at Lakin, the son of George B. and Anna S. Mohr Gerritzen. He grew up in Lakin and attended schools there.
A lifetime resident of Lakin, he worked for Tate Ranch for 25 years. His special interests included reading, spending time with his family, his dogs and cats, and building fence.
On Nov. 21, 1962, he married Brenda Rich at Lakin. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Jackie Carpenter, Bassett, Neb., and Missie Gerritzen, Lakin; two sisters, Fern Combs, Ulysses, and Elizabeth Doyle, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; a son-in-law; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kellie Collins; three brothers; and six sisters.

DeLila Wilson Speer
DIGHTON - Funeral for DeLila Wilson Speer, 74, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Speer died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Gove County, the daughter of Earl Andrew and Consuella Fullmer Wilson. She attended grade school at Gove and Jerome, and graduated from Dighton High School in 1946.
She worked for a short time at Mumma Locker in Dighton and sold tiara glass out of her home. She enjoyed sewing, painting and playing in the JOY band at the Senior Citizen Center.
Mrs. Speer was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton and Christian Women's Fellowship, was a church deaconette and Sunday School teacher, belonged to the As You Like It Club, VFW Auxiliary, TOPS Club, Al-anon and the Lane County Arts Council and was a former Cub Scout Den Mother.
On Jan. 4, 1946, she married Giles A. Speer at Dighton. He died June 16, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Linda Elaine Speer.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Speer Cravens, New Castle, Okla.; two sons, Ivan Giles Speer, Dighton, and Drew Ve Speer, Simpsonville, S.C.; three brothers, Dean and Keith Wilson, both of Dighton, and Rex Wilson of Marion; two sisters, Amy Jewell, Warsaw, Mo., and Janie Johnston, Dighton; two stepbrothers, Forrest and Dwight York, both of Healy; a stepsister, Maxine Wilson, Healy; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one stepgreat-grandson.

Douglas Eugene Dale
ULYSSES - Funeral for Douglas Eugene Dale, 70, of rural Ulysses, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Moscow, with the Revs. Bill Ripley and Kenneth Lampp officiating. Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Charles B. Hart Post No. 79 of Ulysses.
Mr. Dale died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, from injuries suffered in an explosion.
He was born Aug. 27, 1931, at the family farm in Lakin, the son of Claude and Leah Fraser Dale. He attended schools in Lakin and Kendall before joining the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge from the service, he moved to Alberta, Canada for 15 years before moving to Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada for four years. In 1972, he returned to rural Ulysses.
Mr. Dale was a member of Mercy Grace & Truth Church, Charles B. Hart Post No. 79 and Full Gospel Business Men's Association, all at Ulysses. His hobbies included working with steel, traveling, fishing and golfing.
On Dec. 27, 1953, he married Barbara Lee Willan at Medicine Lodge. She died May 11, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Matt and Lance Dale.
On April 29, 2000, he married Grace Burns at Branson, Mo. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Jas Dale, rural Ulysses; a stepdaughter, Venita Geschwendt, Champion, Alberta, Canada; two stepsons, Brian Sangster-Kelly, Parksville, British Columbia, Canada, and Cameron Sangster, Taber, Alberta, Canada; a brother, Emery Dale, Las Vegas; his stepmother, Kathryne Dale, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepbrother, Jack Dale, Sheridan, Wyo.; a stepsister, Karen Murr, Colorado Springs; two grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses.
