Lola Navarro Banda
Lola Navarro Banda of Deerfield died Thursday June 20, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital at the age of 91.
Born Nov. 19, 1910, she was the daughter of Ventura and Polonia (Romero) Navarro in Atascosa County, Texas.
Mrs. Banda spent her early years on a ranch in Tankersley, Texas. She married George Banda on Feb. 20, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas. They moved to Deerfield in 1963.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 13 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Jose and Manuel Banda, both of Deerfield; and four daughters, Gloria Cooper, Mary Banda, Adelita Funderburg, all of Deerfield, and Amelia Martinez of Garden City.
A brother, Luis Navarro of San Angelo, Texas, 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
Mrs. Banda's interests included quilting, gardening and music. She also was an immaculate housekeeper and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be remembered most for being a loving wife and mother.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, where Mrs. Banda was a member. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. The Rev. Mike Helms will preside.
Burial will be at Deerfield Cemetery
after the service.
Calling hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, all at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, 508 N. Main St.

Betty Lou Adams
Betty Lou Adams, 74, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born June 27, 1927, at Garden City, the daughter of J.D. and Freda G. Peoples Adams.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, she belonged to the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts and watching television.
She is survived by three sisters, Jackie Mosher, Annandale, Va., Jean Flannery, Arvada, Colo., and Joan Watkins, Colorado Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Starley E. Ochs
Starley E. Ochs, 64, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at her home in Garden City.
She was born March 14, 1938, at McAlester, Okla., the daughter of Boone and Roxanne Phillips Henderson.
A Garden City resident since 1957, moving from Plainview, Texas, she was a homemaker. She belonged to the First Christian Church, Women's Elks, Democratic Women's Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association and co-sponsored softball teams for more than 30 years with her husband, Kenneth R. Ochs, whom she married on June 25, 1960, at Sublette.
Survivors include Kenny and Courtnie, both of the home; two sons, Kevin D. Noel, Providence, Utah, and Bruce D. Ochs, Garden City; three daughters, René D. Biel, Pleasanton, Calif., Kimberly R. Baier, Holcomb, and April M. Williams, Topeka; three brothers, Allen Henderson and Dale Cook, both of Lubbock, Texas, and Ronnie Henderson, Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Barbara Billington, Amarillo, Texas; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Gilbert Cook; and a brother, Gary Cook.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Center of Dodge City, Lee Richardson Zoo or Holcomb Recreation Commission, all in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Thomas P. Rice
SCOTT CITY - Thomas P. Rice, 74, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
He was born March 18, 1928, at Detroit, the son of Thomas Lewis and Teresa Tobin Rice. He attended schools in Canada, at Sarnia, Ontario and at Windsor, Ontario, before serving his apprenticeship in the I.B.E.W. He spent 30 years following industrial construction throughout the United States before retiring because of his health. He moved to Scott City in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
No services are planned. Inurnment took place in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, was in charge of arrangements.
Gilbert G. 'Gil' Watson
Gilbert G. "Gil" Watson, 81, of Bradenton, Fla., died Wednesday, June 19, 2002.
He was born Oct. 3, 1920, at Parkersburg, W.Va.
A Garden City resident until moving to Bradenton 11 years ago, Mr. Watson was a cattle rancher. He attended the Church of Christ, was president of the Bayshore Kiwanis and belonged to the National Cattleman's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan R.; a daughter, Becky Drewery, Kamiah, Idaho; a son, James, Yorba Linda, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in Bradenton.

Doris F. Immroth
Funeral for Doris Faye Immroth, 80, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Mary Al Titus officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Immroth died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born April 7, 1922, at New Albany, the daughter of Carl and Minnie Glaze Davis.
A Garden City resident since 1957, moving from Rolla, she had worked as a registered nurse in the pediatric care unit at St. Catherine Hospital and then for Plaza Medical Center for many years. She was a member of the Methodist faith, and belonged to the Acorn Club and Wheatbelt Good Sams Camping Club, both at Garden City.
On May 17, 1945, she married Eldon "Bud" Immroth at Cimarron. He died April 12, 2000, at Garden City.
She is survived by a son, Jack Immroth, Garden City; two daughters, Sharon Jameson, Garden City, and Donna Powell, Sublette; three brothers, Cecil Davis, Garden City, Delbert Davis, Cimarron, and Dale Davis, Ukiah, Calif.; a sister, Lillian Garetson, Copeland; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Wheatbelt Good Sams Camping Club or the Garden City Community College Nursing Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Catherine F. Wendt
TRIBUNE - Catherine F. Wendt, 76, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She was born Aug. 14, 1925, at Garden City, the daughter of Oral Wesley Franklin and Fannie Fern Fallis Mickel.
A Greeley County resident since 1958, she was a homemaker and a former Greeley County school cook, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Assembly of God Church, a former 4-H leader and former EHU unit member.
In November 1942, she married Paul R. Martin at Enid, Okla. She married Keith Wendt on Nov. 26, 1958, at Miami, Okla. He died May 6, 2001. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Richard Martin, Tulsa, Okla., Jim Martin, Havelock, N.C., Charles Martin, Mont Verde, Fla., and Gerald Wendt, Tribune; two daughters, Nancy Martin, Grand Junction, Colo., and Melodie Rauch, Tribune; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Assembly of God Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Michael Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to the church or Greeley County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home.
Prudence L. Phifer
HUGOTON - Prudence Louise Phifer, 56, of Hugoton, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 12, 1945, at Cumberland City, Tenn., the daughter of Earl and Alice Jackson Marshall.
On Nov. 5, 1967, she married John Phifer at Cumberland City. They moved to Arizona in 1967, to Clarksville, Tenn., in 1969, and to Hugoton in 1971.
Mrs. Phifer was a beautician and bookkeeper, having worked for SRS for 12 years, and was a member of Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, embroidering, fishing, and working with children through her job with SRS. She also liked to go to Santa Fe, N.M., and play the slot machines.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Shan Phifer, and a daughter, Shannon Smith, both of Hugoton; her mother, Alice Bumpuas, and a brother, Roland Marshall, both of Dickson, Tenn.; four sisters, Janice Harrison, Leavis Hudsey and Vira Wyatt, all of Clarksville, and Zelda Bradford, Mesa, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Eric Mason officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
