Leroy Levi Snodgrass
Memorial service for Leroy Levi Snodgrass, 71, of Duncan, Okla., was to be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, Duncan. The family planned to meet at the home of Robin and Jimmy Rochell, 915 N. 60th, in Duncan.
Mr. Snodgrass died Monday, June 24, 2002, after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 22, 1931, at Pierceville where he grew up and graduated from high school. He spent four years serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After leaving the Air Force, he moved to the Texas Panhandle where he met and married his wife of 45 years.
Mr. Snodgrass worked for Skelly Oil Co. and Russell Electric. In 1975, his family moved to Duncan where he spent the next 18 years working in Velma, Okla., for Skelly Oil Co., Getty Oil Co. and Texaco Oil Co., retiring from Texaco in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his mother, Vera Snodgrass, Garden City; a brother, Dale Snodgrass, Mount Hope; two sisters, Shirley Davis and Mary Joan Cronin, both of Pierceville; four daughters, Robin Rochell and Beatrice Rochell, both of Duncan, Laura Kennedy, Comanche, Okla., and Marla Sleeker, Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Snodgrass.

James L. 'Jim' Haslett
SYRACUSE - Vigil service and rosary for James Leslie "Jim" Haslett, 51, will be 7 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Syracuse. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. MDT Friday at the church, with the Rev. Mike Helms as celebrant. Graveside service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
Mr. Haslett died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Syracuse.
He was born Feb. 12, 1951, at Kinsley, the son of Floyd Bernard and Magdalene Stegman Haslett. He attended Syracuse High School, graduating in 1969, and also attended computer technical school in Wichita for two years.
On July 22, 1972, he married Judy K. Logan at Haysville and they moved to Syracuse. They farmed in the Bear Creek community from 1972 to 1987 and for the past 15 years had been the owners and operators of D & H Oil Co. in Syracuse.
Mr. Haslett was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Tamarisk Golf Course, Hamilton County Zoning Board of Appeals, Knights of Columbus, and the Petroleum Market and Convenience Store Association. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed snowmobiling, pheasant hunting, and jet skiing at Fox Lake with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Syracuse; two sons, Chad Eric Haslett, Clearwater, and Craig Norman Haslett, Lyman, Wyo.; two daughters, Jennifer Leslie Haslett, Syracuse, and Cassi Kay Haslett, Manhattan; three brothers, Timothy J. Haslett and John L. Haslett, both of Syracuse, and Floyd W. Haslett, Falcon, Colo.; two sisters, Rebecca S. Jantz, Bloomingfield, N.M., and Phyllis A. Horning, Syracuse; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Norman D. Haslett.
Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. MDT Thursday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the James Haslett Children's Education Fund or Tamarisk Golf Course, both in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
Charles A. 'Gabby' Fuqua
DEERFIELD - Funeral for Charles Alvin "Gabby" Fuqua, 76, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Raymond Raley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Fuqua died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Aug. 19, 1925, the son of Ben and Lottie Murphy Brown Fuqua.
A lifetime area resident, he was a cement and cattle truck driver. He was a member of the Cowboy Association and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
On Jan. 10, 1953, he married Nettie M. Woods at Fayetteville, Ark. She died July 8, 1993. In October 1997, he married Ruby Adams at Deerfield. She died March 6, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Glenn L. 'Bing' Burch
LEOTI - Funeral for Glenn L. "Bing" Burch, 79, of Leoti, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Burial will be in Wichita County Cemetery, Leoti, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Mr. Burch died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Wichita County, the son of Elzy and Molly Lonberger Burch, and attended country schools in Wichita County and also attended Selkirk Grade School.
A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Mr. Burch was a farmer and rancher, enjoying his work with cattle and farming. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1945 during World War II.
On July 31, 1946, he married June Ellis at Leoti. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Marvin Burch, Macksville, Gary Burch, Holcomb, Bill Burch, Leoti, and Randy Burch, Tonkawa, Okla.; four daughters, Sandy Dunsworth of Harper, Kathy Burch of Horace, Doris Mullins, Dale City, Va., and Bonnie Christensen, Scott City; two brothers, Harley Burch, Leoti, and Paul Burch, Blackwell, Okla.; four sisters, Rosie Crittenden, San Jose, Calif., Mary Hayzlett, Wichita, Daisy Conley, Russell, and Eunice Ellis, Bixby, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two grandchildren.

Kalley Diane Russell
DIGHTON - Funeral for Kalley Diane Russell, the infant daughter of Craig and Katina Berndt Russell of Dighton, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Kalley was born June 24, 2002, and died the next day at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Wyatt Russell, and a sister, Katlyn Russell, both of the home; her grandparents, Al and Marilyn Berndt, Dighton, and Larry and Rhonda Russell, Scott City; and her great-grandparents, Mabel Berndt, Monument, Emmavene Youvan, Dighton, Kenneth Russell, Scott City, and Ronnie and Della Morgan, Healy. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ernest Berndt, Jack Youvan and Mary Russell.

Ray W. Arie Jr.
LAKIN - Memorial service for Ray W. Arie Jr., 58, of Lakin, was to be 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakley Cemetery, Oakley.
Mr. Arie died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born May 23, 1944, at Oakley, the son of Ray W. and Frances M. Eggleston Arie.
A Lakin resident since 1971, moving from Oakley, he was a service technician for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakin and the Lakin Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid collector of insulators, baseball cards and sports memorabilia.
On Oct. 25, 1964, he married Judith L. Kline at Grainfield. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Bryan Arie, Garden City; a daughter, Melissa L. Hullon, Wichita; a brother, Floyd Arie, Wichita; a sister, Billie Wilson, Denver; a granddaughter; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd Arie; and a sister, Peggi Lea Pearson.

Cora Lee Deck
Cora Lee Deck, 79, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 26, 1922, at Hoxie, Ark., the daughter of Harry and Hazel Moore. She attended public schools in Little Rock, Ark.
On June 15, 1964, she married Gerald Gordon Deck at Sacramento, Calif. He died July 18, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
A Garden City resident since 1975, moving from Little Rock, she was a member of First Baptist Church and also belonged to the Senior Center where she did volunteer work for many years. Her hobbies included dancing, embroidery and watching television.
Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Monday at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Carroll Morony officiating.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Hugh E. Andrews
Hugh E. Andrews, 82, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born July 6, 1919, at Vineland, the son of William B. and Stella J. Hoskinson Andrews.
A Finney County resident since 1923, moving from Vineland, he was a farmer and stockman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge and Harry H. Renick American Legion Post No. 9, both at Garden City.
In August 1945, he married Ulonda Chaffins at Louisville, Ky. She died Oct. 10, 1990, at Pierceville. He was also preceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Beatrice Wasson.
Survivors include three sons, Rob and John Andrews, both of Pierceville, and Jim Andrews, Garden City; two brothers, William A. Andrews and Raymond Andrews, both of Garden City; and one grandchild.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Charles Wagher officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Hugh E. Andrews Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Geneva G. Snell
LEOTI - Geneva G. Snell, 89, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at her home in Leoti.
Born Oct. 14, 1912 at Coronado, she was the daughter of Arthur Lloyd and Marie Elizabeth Case Walk.
Mrs. Snell was a homemaker, teacher and bookkeeper for Western Hardware and Supply Co. before retiring in 1974. She was a lifetime Wichita County resident.
On Oct. 31, 1933, she married Kermit F. Snell at Beaver, Okla. He died Feb. 10, 1996, at Scott City.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 259, the Subordiante Secretaries Association, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, the Kansas Historical Society, the Wichita County Historical Society and she was instrumental in writing the first volume of history of Wichita County.
She is survived by one brother, Buster Walk of Leoti.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Franklyn Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in Leoti Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home.
